Without Panic, roo would not be where it is today.
Without the model t ford wouldnt be where it is today. That doesnt mean that fords going to bring back the same model t, because it would be a step back for the company. I think its the same idea with widespread headlining roo. If they play, i rather see them have a pre-headliner spot.
they dont do it for me. but i respect them. they built roo. and ill take any band that draws that crowd to roo. thin out the hipsters a bit. plus im not passing judgement yet. ive only seen them at roo. and didnt see the whole show either night. and herring tears it up.

It's not a lack of respect. It's more along the lines of boredom. It's not that they're bad, because they're great... but it isn't spreadaroo. It's a diverse festival.
Seeing as how they bought the land this year's fest will either be really big or really sucky. My thoughts are that they've got something amazing up their sleeve. I don't see why anyone would spend that amount of money on something that wasn't going to have garunteed profit.
I guess it's gonna be My Morning Jacket headlining after all. They'll bring in M. Ward, Andrew Bird, Ray LaMontagne, Bobby Bare jr, Will Johnson, Gillian Welch and the Memphis Horns for a 3 hour Last Waltz style extravaganza.

Never going to happen, but
Last year's late night was one of if not the best shows I have ever seen.
I jsut can't imagine Bonnaroo giving someone as small as MMJ a headlining spot. In a few years maybe, now probably not.
DMB is a waste of a headlining spot until they can write a lot of good new material, which doesn't seem likely anytime soon.
I disagree... Some of the New stuff sucks...but every album has some weak songs...
Good New Live Songs
Everyday (which I hated overall): So Right, If I had It All, What You Are
Stand Up: Hunger for great light, Lousiana Bayou, hello Again, You Might Die Trying
..Not to mention all the great albums before these two, all the covers and all the unrealeased treasures..
I don't know..DMB is always a good fit
So Right - i don't mind this one every now and again
If I Had It All - completely boring in the live setting
What You Are - just trash
Huger - this one isn't even worth commenting on it's that bad
Bayou - overplayed already with that same reptitive jam that people seem to praise
Hello Again - incredible tune, should have stayed in rotation along with the rest of the '04 tunes, especially Sugar Will
You Might Die Trying - just because they extend the outro a little with the horns doesn't mean the rest of the song isn't horrible
I'll give you the first 3 albums were almost flawless, but they haven't been able to recapture what made those albums great. Now, we're left with a band that has only written a hand full of good tunes in 6-7 years, and a singer who's voice is dwindling every year. This band died when they got rid of Lillywhite.

Correction: The last waltz was actually around 6.5 hours. Everyone thinks it was only three, because the cameras they used overheated and melted half of the film reels.
On that note, what about a headlining slot with a bunch of people revisiting songs by the band. now that would be amazing. Just imagine, a live remake of the waltz with everyone from Dave Matthews to Elton John to Grace Potter to Robert Randolph. Oh my god... that's too much for my mind to process.
PJ not playing pretty much discredits every rumor monger out there. And while I respect the love PJ fans have their band, I wasn't much of a fan. Eddie grates on me too much.
I like that after a month of monotonous speculation and "figuring" out of the lineup, everything has been blown apart by the fucking euros. Comical.

Hey samjaco, I think that the Last Waltz is a great idea and I think it's already being set up. The 40th anniversary of the Basment Tapes is this year and with Dylan supposedly headlining I was thinking we might see the remaining Band members reunite.

Please no Panic, please no Dave. Let's hear something progressive and fresh. If you want stale check out Waka...
I really hope you're not calling Pearl Jam "progressive and fresh"...
In terms of ideology, absolutely. I will concede that their sound may not necessarily be anything new. But they have done things on their own terms for, what, 15 years? For a band driven by politics, they stand by the ideals. Respek!
I've been to Bonnaroo the past two years. I can't help but say that this announcement of Pearl Jam not being there, my favorite band of all time, does kill Bonnaroo interest for me this year immensely. I thought they were so much of a shoe in this year that I accepted it as the truth. So, major, major disapointment to me. I couldn't care any less about Police outside of Message in a Bottle and considering I don't do anything past drinking, Panic doesn't appeal to me much either (I watched just the last 30 minutes of their set two years ago and listened to the rest from camp before it).
You don't need to do anything beyond drinking to enjoy Panic. Not everyone loves them, but I really don't think party favors have anything to do with being a fan of theirs.
