my friend said he heard a rumor bonnaroo might be covered by mtv this year??? i havent read or seen anything anywhere about that. i hope not....look what they did to woodstock......
Please please please, if anyone else hears any rumors that regard Bonnarooo and are not music related, KEEP THEM TO YOURSELF!!!! I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but I feel like I speak for most Roo veterans when I say that I am completely tired of hearing the same rumors over and over. The next one is that the property has been sold to six flags and is going to be a theme park. Then comes 2003 is going to be the last bonnaroo. 2004 is going to be the last bonnaroo. 2005 is going to be the last bonnaroo. The lease is up, 2006 is the last bonnaroo. If the lease is up it will get renewed. The city of manchester and the guy who owns the farm are making way too much money to give up bonnaroo. If they didn't renew it, superfly is making too much money, they'll just move it. Finally there will be no drug dogs at the gates. It is way too hot in TN in June to have K-9 working as hard as they do. Not to mention way too many cars and people.
Sorry for the rant, but I had to get that off of my chest.
Hey I knew I was coming off like a jerk, but I think everyone is sick and tired of hearing these rumors. I just had to let it be known. MTV is not in the business of covering festivals like bonnaroo. If they were they would cover lollapalooza. I just wish people would research these things before they post it as fact. Not that this is what Skankinitslow was doing. He was just checkin to see if it was true. But these guys that say oh don't worry there isn't going to be a bonnaroo next year, or it won't be the same since clearchannel bought them out are pissing me off.
Ummm.... who cares if MTV is 'covering' the 'roo? If they're just there reporting on it, how does that impact us? I could see if it was "Bonnaroo brought to you by MTV" or something, but really... Nothing to see, move along.
Last year at the Strawberry Music Festival (Yosemite, CA) there was a rumor going around that sheryl Crow and Lance Armstrong were there. A bunch of people we were camping with ended up running around the festival, frantically looking for them. It's kind of funny to see what happens when rumors start flying. It can get pretty chaotic, until everyone realizes the rumor isn't true.

ummmmmmm i think maybe your looking for the music section... this IS the general section of inforoo that deals with topics of exactly this nature.....and also as a roo veteran i would like to inform you that you certainly dont speak for me, you need to work on speaking intelligently for yourself before ya try that... although now that you are here to predict the future and provide us with all of the answers i guess we dont need to talk about it.. thanx for clearing all that up.... if yer so tired of hearing about it why did ya click on the link that said MTV???? i could see yer gripe if the thread had been named breaking bonnaroo news or something....also i think it is important to all of us...the mtv bands are allready infiltrating roo, i know it wont be long before mtv media and mtv fans start showing up (between death cab, radiohead, matisyahu etc... i think this might be the year it happens).....a lot of people who love roo for what we have come to know as roo finds this very disturbing... i know of many people who are going to waka or 10klf to specifically avoid this "evoloution of diversity" to many of us it is less an evoloution of diversity then it is an elevation of profits... i think the influx of the "new crowd" is of concern to everyone who was perfectly happy with what roo was/maybe still will be... i hope that the "progression" stops here before tool, depeche mode, and madonna are headlining what used to be "our place" away form the mainstream and its media giants... just one mans opinion
Man..If I got a buck everytime I heard that rumor I would have an extra $20 in my pocket. The first time I heard it I was dissapointed, but I just laugh when I see it now.
Keith i feel the exact way you do! Thats why im going to wakarusa this year but, I think im still going to bonnaroo just because the fact that its only an hour away and OYSTERHEAD!
hell ya i wouldnt miss bonnaroo...not until i go and dont have a good time... once that happens ill consider not going.... but i dont know that the situation will ever get to that point... they will always have enough of what i want to see to get me there... hopefully if a bunch of unwanted guests crash the party they will do their own thing and it will have absolutly no affect on my visit, but i am trying to make it to 10k this year as it has the lineup that i would normally expect to see at roo, i do think it is the better lineup... oysterhead makes it a toughcall though

man i was trying to find out some stuff about dresden dolls in a dresden dolls thread, bonnaroo.proboards21.com/index.cgi?board=music&action=display&thread=1143466679 their website is garbage but i found lots of info at mtv.com....it seems as though they are everywhere.. i wouldnt be surprised if they showed up this year, i think there might be more mtv bands then jambands this year... i count about 6 or 7 "jambands" and 8 or 9 "mtv bands" i feel like im witnessing the death of a freind and there is nothing i can do to help, except not go so it can die a quicker death... but not yet.. it might be revivable.... i hope so anyways

i consider bands that were made by mtv, recieve playtime on mtv, and attract a more mainstream mtv type of fan... alot of these i am lookin forward to seeing and wouldnt generally call them mainstream mtv fans but when put together with the mtv lineup they are the main draw for that elementhere are what i consider the bands that have that effect
matisyahu death cab for cutie dresden dolls common bright eyes tom petty (one of my favs.. cant wait to see) beck (one of my favs..cant wait to see) blues traveler(cant wait to see) radiohead (may not currently get much mtv playtime but are a major headline spot used to anchor the show for the mtv fanbase) rusted root could maybe get hrown in there for send me on my way(cant wait to see them also) phil and friends...just kiddin.. but im sure there might be a couple that im missing.. i dont watch mtv much... so there is 9 or 10 by my count

ya it has been a while... but it was so oveplayed that i still have occasional nightmares
sonic youth probably draws a bit for that crowd too because they recognize the name and associate it with cool... i doubt they get much play time on mtv however

You really think those bands are played on MTV? MTV2 maybe, for some, but Petty and Blues Traveler?? It's not 1994 anymore. And Radiohead is an MTV band because you think "MTV fans" like them? Are you serious?? They don't play Radiohead songs on MTV or the radio for a reason....mainstream fans don't like them.

Oh lord....I guarantee you 9 out of 10 MTV viewers couldn't even recognize one single Sonic Youth song. They MIGHT have got a spin or two on MTV back in the Dirty days, but I'm sure that would have only been on 120 minutes or something.
Sonic Youth is probably one of the most un-MTV type bands at this concert.

well i thought i explained that some of these were not put on there becaue they are in daily rotation but for the reason that an mtv fan isnt going to pay 200 buckas and drive for dcfc, dresden dolls and matisyahu, but when ya throw in beck, tom petty, and radiohead headlining it makes it something they are wanting to do...it is pretty obvious that they are trying to draw in this new crowd...its not about the music.. i love some of these groups, and they would normally be a good part of roo but not as an intentional attempt to bring in a new crowd we dont need
