Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
So whats it like????? Is it very hard to get to the front? If you go out...is it impossible to get close again? I'm not expecting many assholes that love to push and all that shit at Bonnaroo. Any feedback welcome
It all depends on the show and the person. If you are in the front during a headliner stay there. It's not just that you can't get back in, but you can't get out. If you are the type of person that knows how to get through a crowd you can back in sometimes. My brother pulled me and him through a crowd of 80,000 to get to the very front during Panic.
Some great shows require you to do one of a few things. 1. Skip a show you might want to see and get up front on the stage you really want to be at later. 2. Leave a show early. Head over to said stage. 3. Sit through a show you don't want to see, because the next is the one you want to see. 4. Pick out a great spot if alot of bands you want to see are on the same stage one after the other, and make your friends go get food and shit.
Other than that my advice is to not really worry about it. If you want to get to the front it will happen. Some shows will be hard to get to and others you can just walk up to. No offense to the Roots, but they were the first show I ever saw at a Bonnaroo and we walked straight to the front. That show was great, but there was absolutely nobody there. You may get suprised at the crowd that shows for your favorite artists.
Well that was kinda long winded. I hope it answred any questions. If not, maybe someone else will have some advice.

This is one that I have used alot in the past. Most of the time you don't even have to sit through the whole show, it could be like the last 20 min. of it. Once that band is finished alot of people leave, so thats when you make your move.
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.
judging from the name of this thread, i thought there was gonna be a different kind of "during the shows" question - one that i've been wanting to ask.
during the shows, how much time do folks spend un-sober? how much of your time there, or what percentage of shows do you go to in whatever altered state you're in? i'm planning on having a really good time, but do folks save it for nighttime? or is it an all day every day party that starts as son as you wake up?
thanks anyone with any insight. hope i didn't insinuate anything too explicit
sounds good...yea I'm pretty good at gettin through crowds...from what you all say it shouldn't be too much of a problem! About how many shows on average to you see throughout the course of the weekend??
To the post above me...I plan on being un-sober 24/7;) But I'm thinkin I'll be getting truly fudded up at night....just due to the fact that its gonna be hotter than hell and I don't wanna fall over and die in the burning sun.

Last year it seemed like you could get where ever you wanted to be. Up front would take some work but if you were patient and polite you could get all the way up there. Just don't go bashing through a crowd. . . bad vibes. And if you are 6'4" don't push deep into a crowd and then stop right in front of someone 5'4".
At Langerado during the Biscuits show a guy with a 3 foot diameter afro (real hair) worked through the crowd and parked it right in front of me. I was "happy" at the time so laughed and my girlfriend took a picture of the scenario. Ah. . .good times.
It depends on how many shows you want to see or how messed up you want to get. The last two years I have ended up sleeping through the late night shows on Saturday due to being far to tired to even move. A lot of being that tired has to do with the "partying" I do during the day, especially last year. Partying 24/7 is gonna definitely wear you out, I think it's worth it though as long as your having fun. You don't really get that many opportunities to just rage all day with killer music. Even sleeping through Saturday night I still caught just about every band I wanted to see last year. I ended up seeing like 16 or 17 shows I think last year. Thats also because I like to see entire shows. I rarely ever just watch a few songs and then go check out another tent. There are a lot of variables that come into play when deciding how many shows you can catch or staying sober or not. Also, a lot of "party goodies" will help keep you awake and raging through the night.
In 03 I saw about 10 shows, but I only went on Sat. and Sun. In 04 I went to about 23 shows that I can remember. It was so hot that you just couldn't help but stay in the shade and not try to go to some of the shows. Last year I saw almost 40 shows. The weather was perfect. I caught a show every hour and jumped from show to show at times (especially late night). That's about the most I would expect to get to see. Any more than that I won't get to see enough of each show.

The late night shows are mostly a blur to me. My favorite late night last year was the post parade masquerade jam in the comedy barn. It was a combo of Particle, Umphrey's, and Benevento all in mexican wrestling masks. They RAWKED. And when they broke into a slammin' rendition of Immigrant Song the small crowd (300?) went nuts.

Yea in '04, I counted that I saw about 16 shows, but I'd say that only about half of those were complete shows. I slept through 2/3 headliners, saw Trey, and revitalized myself for the late nights. This year I can't miss the headliners, so I'm going to have to figure something out ahead of time to preserve energy. I know I'm going to want to party, but I may have to make a sacrifice during the daylight hours in order to get to see everything on my list.

Yeah, my list is pretty damn long this year so I know I'm going to have mucho conflicts. That's a better problem to have than not enough bands you want to see.

I'm 6'2" Its hard not to stand in front of people shorter then you. I try to stick to the sides of venues but get close to be as nice as I can but sometimes you gotta block people. Sorry shorties.

This year especially i will be saving precious energy for the latenight sets... It definately depends on what band you want to see as to how easy a good spot will be to get... I went to try and find a good spot for Keller last year so i caught the last half of Particle which was sweet, but when they were done it was almost like no one moved at all... I could still barely find a spot in the ankle deep water/mud under the tent, everyone just stood there waiting for Keller... So if the show your after has a strong draw then you might want to consider being there several hours before showtime if you're serious about a spot...
I have a question relating to the costume parade of last year and the show afterwards- it was my first year and I missed it because we didn't know when it was. When does this festival of mythic proportions occur?
I only had one situation where a person trying to get to the front pissed me off (she painfully elbowed herself between my best friend and I trying to get to the front) otherwise I let it slide.

Late night shows in my opinion are always going to be the best thing at the Roo, i try and conserve some engery durnig the day when it is feaking hot as hell, because being hot and funked up, funk as in messed up or not sober, I like the rain, i waited forever in the rain in 04 to see the Dead Saturday night, way up in the front where the sand is, and by the time we left the sand, after the Dead, their were ponds of mud puddles ever where beyond the sand in the main stage, so be ready after a show or on your way to your next show, for changes in the weather, that to me is the always the biggest adversity during the shows is the weather.
And if you are 6'4" don't push deep into a crowd and then stop right in front of someone 5'4".

I feel your pain. I'm 6'6" and I always feel guilty standing in front of people. Most of the time I'll try to find a good view to the side where there aren't a whole lot of people. But then during headliners people always seem to crowd around and you get someone who is ticked off. Somedays you can't win.
i love getting up front for shows but at roo it seems that i am usually sittin on a blanket somewhere near the middle drinking and smoking....there are a few shows i get up front for but it saves energy and is jusr generally easier to be back a bit...you got your space that your blanket marks and you can enjoy beers and smokes without worrying about spilling or burning someone... and if ya drink alot bathroom breaks are a bitch up front... both getting out and trying to get back in and then ya can almost forget about finding your friends again if its dark.... but i guess it just depends on what ya like to do.... i cant wait to be right upfront for oysterhead....i know it will be difficult but i plan on doing it, im even going to not drink for a while before their show so i wont have to leave for the bathroom....sometimes i think its a better show back a bit... i was in outer space for dave and it was awesome to be back aways so i could take in all of the lights and the glowsticks flying around

I have alot more trouble getting closer in a tent than the open air stages... A spot up front at Oysterhead might be a hell of a mission, i hope to get a decent spot myself...

You really do have to maximize your downtime during the day if you wanna last all night (without chemical assistance or hardcore fatigue). It's the only way to go -- stay wet & cool & in the shade whenever possible during the day. Get off your feet whenever possible. It's definitely a trade-off, but the late-night shows are ALWAYS the greatest performances (imo).
it depends on the show for the amount of crowedness. i wasnt even able to see Keller last year cuz his tent was completely filled. but for the most part, only the headliners are very crowded cuz there are more choices at any other time.
as far a getting f u c k e d up, i would say to take it easy on drinking alcohol (and this is coming from a big drinker) and load up on water during the day. i mean, have a few beers but DONT get wasted during the day. youll be miserable. use your typical caution/personal rules with the other substances. its really just the booze that wears people out and makes them grumpier than needed.
ya i agree... i try to wait for night to fall to do my partying...that heat will really take it out of ya if your gettin messed up in it...smoke and relax all day and start drinking and eatin goodies when the sun hits the horizion.... i wish i could follow my own rules better....
