if you go on ebay im pretty sure there folks that sell glowsticks in bulk, last year my friend brought a can of 500 with him and my cousin made a glow stick helmet and ran around, i think that was saturday night
im all for it. i will bring some glowies to Oysterhead. that is obviously the best place to be throwing glowies. Radiohead would be fun, but the area is massive and the glowies may get lost.
also, for what its worth, i think "glow stick explosions" is a more appropriate term. its not like two sides of the crowd are actually warring with each other. and it describes what it looks like much better. "glow stick wars" sounds like the intent is to be line-driving them at peoples heads. just a thought. power to the glowies!
ya i was wondering if people might have been thinking that also.. one time i saw clear beachballs with glow sticks and other glow stuff inside of them...it was kinda sweet how it moved and kinda hung up there with everything else zoomin by...
i just checked out ebay and it has tons of glow stuff...it looks like the stringy glow necklaces and bracelets you can get thousands of them for a cheap price.. from 20 bucks for one thousand 8 inch braclets to 100 dollars for 1000 22 inch necklaces...glow sticks are also fairly cheap by the hundereds....it seems that shipping is where alot of the cost will come in but it is cheaper then i thought.. i will definetly be supplied for oysterhead....im gonna get the necklaces and braclets as i think they look cooler and arent as likely to injure someone...and as an added bonus they are cheaper
I'll definitely help get one goin for radiohead too, i have never been in a "glowstick explosion" but is sounds like one of the greatest things ever thought up, from this day on instead of buying one or two crappy 25cent toys everywhere i go i will buy a few glow sticks, my friend brian who is coming too thought it was a great plan when i told him, he'll pitch in on the radiohead explosion as well, I am sure!

I wouldnt say the big stage is too big to get one going, its just usually going to be most dense right infront of the stage. Its more of a question of the number of people who are into it and who will keep it going, as well as the number of people who bring sticks than it is the stage itself. The tents dont seem to work as well cause they're lit more and a bit more crowded...
Yeah Ebay is definately the best place to get em...
kemosabe People have been calling em glowstick wars for years....

In total agreement here, you can have gigantic glowstick wars no problem if the crowd is into it, take the crazy glowstick war at IT, about as large as the entire bonnaroo crowd together, and they had a spectacular war.
And as far as the glowstick explosions go, yes, it's more appropriate, but glowstick wars has won my heart, there's even a glowstick wars lot shirt that shows up from time to time!

The big stage was crazy with glowsticks for both Panic shows last year so the size is no problem. And given it will still be a Roo crowd at Radiohead I think everyone will know what to do once the big bundles come out. I'll be bringing a giant bundle for them.

Soul - don't hand them out. Crack them all beforehand and throw them all up at the same time. That will be a magical sight for more people than you can imagine. After the initial fountain of light, people around you can pick them up and start the war.

I'm telling you man. After talking to tons of other people that saw Phish in Greensboro on 3-1-03 (last show of the 1st post-hiatus tour), the one thing that EVERYONE remembers in the waterfall of orange industrial glowsticks that somone dumped from the balcony onto the crowd below. It was an INCREDIBLE moment - and totally crowd-induced. That's the best part.
There was a similar thing @ Trey @ 'roo '05, but they were blow and got thrown upwards.
yeah, i was at that one, that was only my second glowstick expierence, the first being the nght before at DMB. It left me wanting more, and more .. .. lol. Wasnt it at trey they formed a glowstick man right up front near the middle?
Ive never participated, but im planning on bringing at least a couple hundred for radiohead. Maybe I will save some for Oysterhead, but i am dedicated to creating a glow stick war at radiohead.
anyone have recommendations on whether to get the 22" or the 8" ones? the 8 inch ones are a hell of a lot cheaper, but im guessing the 22 inch ones are brighter and last longer.

ha i shot one of those glowstick videos that are linked on here. or my friend did as i was fried on acid.
another brilliant thing to bring is glow in the dark inflatable pool toys. last year a giant purple dolphin bounced by my head and i thought i was in an open air aquarium.

The 22" ones are probably the necklaces - they are flimsy and won't go very far when you throw them. I'm banking on the 6" sticks for maximum distance.
i was looking at the stuff on ebay and i think that the prices i mentioned for bracelets and necklaces might have been simply glow in the dark as opposed to some type of chemical glow.... im not sure how well they would achieve the effect we are looking for....and at a late night show im not sure if they would still glow, dont they need to be exposed to light for a while and then only glow for a short time?
at any rate ebay had good prices on chemical glow sticks also

so what are the rules to not being rude.... i know if i was 15 feet away from someone launching 500 glowsticks into the air i probably wouldnt be going oh cool, id probably be trying to defend myself... i know it looks cool but damn....so is it proper to warn people around you before the show that your going to erupt or do ya just let em fly and everyone is cool with it, i guess they can seee ya gettin ready to do it...just kinda wondering if there were rules ...i love the way they look... cool stuff....the lightshow as a whole was incredible at dave last year and trey

tortilla war for oysterhead, that would be sweet. I fondly remember the one i witnessed at phish columbus 2000. the day after that crazy storm. As far as glowsticks wars go however, the one from the It festival was monumental. Watch the film. we could try to top it at radiohead, but thats unlikely.
