This may be old, but I just saw it today. From Bonnaroo Listserv (which someone got from EMULE):
"Rumor has it that the land Bonnaroo is held on has been contracted for sale to Six Flags of America. Also, my father-in-law lives in Manchester, TN. (about 8 miles from the fest site - he knows the McAllister family well. I go look at the Fest grounds every Xmas when we visit.) He tells me that the city of Manchester loves the fest (because they directly get a large chunk of money from fees, liscences, etc. This has been enough to build a brand-new YMCA rec center/pool among other things in the town.) However, the state law enforcement agencies have been issuing memos about public safety concerns and serious warnings about Bonnaroo, particularly after last year's rapes and death. Also, other surrounding state police agencies have been issuing complaints to Tenn. about allowing this fest which generates a large increase in the number of out-of-state drug arrests/cases. Apparently the state of Georgia does not like to have to prosecute cases in which the defendant is not in residence! Also, my father-in-law told me that a few months ago the city issued a notice to his residence that a new interstate bypass is being planned for that area and the state d.o.t. may have to claim some of his pasture land by eminent domain for this new highway extension. hmmmmmmm....... a Six Flags park and a new highway bypass seem to go hand- in-hand, don't they.
Even if Bonnaroo moves, it is such a popular money maker that I bet it will occur in some other cash-strapped county. Bonnaroo is the biggest thing to happen to Manchester, Tn. in awhile. I know that town well, and. believe me, it is real small-town."
Thoughts? Inside info? I've never heard about the rape case (and neither had anyone on Listserv), which leads me to believe this may be bunk. Worth sharing, though.
I think the rape thing is bunk. No one dies the first two years but I believe one or two people died the third year. The death last year was due to the guy suffering from sleep apnea and NOT drugs.
I have heard this Six Flags rumor since last year. I have also repeatedly heard a rumor that Bonnaroo had a 5 year contract with the owner.
However, even if Six Flags comes in is it necessarily going to be on the same farm as Bonnaroo?
Here's some stuff from a few months ago. I still haven't been able to find a source I can read on the five year thing but people seem to remember seeing it from official sources.

About the five-year lease thing, I've heard this a million times, and it is widely referred to as an established fact, but has anyone seen an official reliable source on this? Has anyone seen Superfly or AC or the city of Manchester or the dude who owns the farm say this as an established fact? I would just be curious to see it if someone has. There is a lot of permanent structure on that property (mostly foundation, not standing buildings) and it would be quite a long time before that land was useful for other purposes at this point.
a couple months ago i read an article on some tennessee newparpers website about how this was gonna be bonnaroos last year there becasue it got sold to six flags....it wasnt just a word of mouth thing i am 100% sure i read and article that looked official enoguh...

There have been a few articles in the papers around here confirming that there will not be a six flags in Manchester.

The 5-year thing was a City Council quote from Manchesterite; the Six Flags rumor was just that.
I'm some what of a local. Eventhough I now live in Seattle, my dad still lives in Manchester. I can tell you this. There is no way that the land has been sold to six flags. The town loves the money they are making, and the fact that they make it so easily. If the land was sold to six flags they would have to put up with crap like this all year round, and they don't want that. As for the rape crap, it is entirely false. I know quite a few police officers in the area, and they said that last year went perfectly. There were no deaths (that was two years ago), and there sure as hell were no rapes.

That's what I thought SaintCash. If it's cool w/ you (I'll wait for your OK), I'll post your reply here on that Listserv thread, and hopefully cool some concerns.
Hey go ahead a put that down on listserv. I want everyone to know that these rumors are just that rumors. I believe we have all heard my rants on how much I hate rumors before, so yeah please pass on the info.

Think about where six flags are located... Outside of Atlanta, San Antonio, and St Louis..
And now a six flags for.... Manchester! (?) or Murfreesboro! (lol!)..... I mean, yea Nashville is two hours away, but wouldnt they build it near Starwood in Antioch if Nashville was the target draw of park-goers? Not 2 hours away in a population 30,000 town (or whatever..)
yeah, there is no support in the surrounding area for a Six Flags...
---------
This is just nasty people starting rumors b/c they live far away and cant make it to Bonnaroo, and hate its freedom!

shutup... phish is no more, so let it rest... please.
Im pretty sure he's joking and making fun of rumours.... No one actually thinks Phish is going to play anywhere.... But yah everyone should know that the 6 Flags thing has been BS since last year...

This is my ALL TIME favorite Bonnaroo BS rumor... ranks up there with the MTV one. people need to generate something new though.. this has been out for a while. I feel good about the Roo for next year... i think all will remain normal
i dont think that Six Flags is going to take over the Bonnaroo farm, but if you look at where Six Flags' are typically located, they usually are in bumfuck areas. usually about an hour or two from a major city.

yep.. the property is alot cheaper. and they know that most of their customers travel to get thre and do not come from the community where they are located. the look for large empty sites with easy access to a major highway system that connects major cities. id say roo fits all of those criteria quite well..... i dont think its something that is happening or will happen soon but it is not a crazy unbelieveable rumor. its a crazy possible rumor
there would be alot more discussion in local papers if it was actually going on now. if it does start to happen there will be plenty of actual news to quote about it and we have none of that right now

the ones in Atlanta and San Antonio are more like 25-30 min outside of town, not 1-2 hours. there are tons of spots closer to Nashville that would be better for a theme park.
Post by keithk1055 on Apr 22, 2006 19:38:23 GMT -5
ya but it would be centrally located for birmingham alabama. atlanta georgia, knoxville tn, and it seems to me that manchester is only like 30-45 minutes from nashville. the roo farm even has its own temporary exit off of the highway and that would also be a big draw for an amusement park. again not saying it will happen anytime soon i just dont think its absurd or even unlikely. im sure soemthing like that will happen someday

Im from TN originally. So Im familiar with the distances.
Just for your notes:
Its about 35-40 mins from Nashville to Murfreesboro. And still another 30-35 min down from there to Manchester.
Birmingham to Manchester is close to 200 miles, up I-59 & I-24. Thats a three hour drive.
Atlanta, GA (which actually has it's own Six Flags, so I don't know why anyone from there would travel for a theme park in TN) is 180 miles away, again a 3 hour drive.
Knoxville is 179 miles away from Manchester, yet again almost a three hour drive.
I'd assume that Six Flags Atlanta takes care of theme park demand from Birmingham, Atlanta, Chattanooga, and Montgomery.
People won't drive 2 plus hours both ways for a theme park. Look at how the other six flags are located. Only 25-30 min away from a big city MAX. Any further, and attendance would be tough to keep up.

i didnt know there was one in atlanta. up here we all drive like 8 hours to go to cedar point so i was going off of that. it probably wont happen with sixflags but im sure someday urban sprawl will take over our beautiful farm, hopefully not far a while though
PHISH WILL PLAY!!! MARK MY WORDS!!!! I HAVE A COUSIN WHO KNOWS TREY'S SISTER. THEY HAVE BEEN PRACTICING AT THE BARN!!! TRUTH!!! BONNAROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Holy sh*t. I almost hope Bonnaroo doesn't make a public announcement of this and we are just given it as a gift for showing up. Can you imagine if they announce the reunion? No amount of gates, marshals or guards will be able to keep the fans out of the farm once tickets are sold out.
