o and for the herring clue, this is kind of a stretch but like its been said a red herring is a distraction, and to be able to have a distraction you have to be a good story teller of sorts, and the meaning of a raconteur is a good storyteller---just an idea

I think the pearl jam for the something hard and something soft clue was a right guess for the wrong clue. The clue for pearl jam was the one about Janis' preserves.
i'm sooo pumped..........i've got everyone at my work huddled around the comp listening to clues and scowering the net for answere.....too bad we're all dumb.......help!!!!
I think the pearl jam for the something hard and something soft clue was a right guess for the wrong clue. The clue for pearl jam was the one about Janis' preserves.
That makes sense.
I still don't feel like we have a solid guess on the "More than one Manchester" clue, though. Maybe Manchester Orchestra seems to obvious for me.
Also, wouldn't it be awesome if what you found in a church was soul and mr deejay was coughing to give us a hint? If only Mike Doughty didn't sound like he wished that the rest of Soul Coughing were dead when asked about them on the Sonic Stage two Roos ago....
here is another clue for you message board people open up the church and you will see the steeple some of your guesses have been way off but correct for the wrong clues now i must cough
im thinking when the guy repeated the janis joplin quote he added the "2008" to it since there was confusion in this thread about it.. THATS AWSOMEEEEE

As for Clue #9 "look to the center of europe to get the sound, but the band comes form all around," I'm gonna bet that that is not Gogol Bordello, given that they played last year, but in fact the group Beirut. They played a well-received set at Glastonbury last year, and their new album was voted one of the best of '07 in lots of places. Eastern European sound, but the lead singer at least is from Santa Fe.

hey everyone, i read all of these boards all the time but I never post, but I am like 100% sure that the europe clue is Beirut since the lead singer went to europe to develop the bands sound but everyone who plays in the band is from someplace else, like the singer is from Santa Fe, which is obviously away from Europe. Anyways, just thought I would share. I know others have stated this already but I wanted to show my support for Beirut.

does anyone know if there are discussing this on the actual bonnaroo forum?? maybe they were refering to "that message board"
There is a board discussing this on the Bonnaroo site. It only has five replies, though.
This is what their board has as its guesses:
"Some herrings taste red, Jimmy"
This could mean a few things... "Red herrings" are diversions from the original subject... This clue could refer to Jimmy Herring and the many bands which he is a member... The Dead, Allman Bros, Widespread Panic, Phil Lesh and Friends ... Although, if Jimmy is referring to a totally different "Jimmy," we could be talking about Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin. Jimmy Page just had a press conference in Japan where he said that Zep would not be playing an shows until after the Robert Plant and Allison Krauss (who most believe will also be playing Bonnaroo) tour would be finished. However, if the DJ's red herring reference was to Jimmy giving the public "a red herring" (aka purposely misleading) at the press conference, it could mean that Led Zeppelin will end up on the farm in June. Led Zeppelin is the most heavily rumored act to be performing at Bonnaroo in 2008.
"Hard Substance, Soft Substance"
Pearl Jam has been heavily rumored as a co-headliner at Roo. Pearls are hard... Jam is soft. Also... Iron & Wine is a possibility.
"Three certain birds add one"
Three Little Birds? The Wailers and a special guest?
This was one of my biggest hunches of Roo. When I spoke to Elan and Aston "Family Man" from The Wailers, they told me that they are working on an album that would be very similar in nature to Santana's Supernatural . They're going to be using all the original members of the Wailers (using DAT tapes of deceased members such as Family Man's brother), and then having major industry players cameo on the album. However, this could also refer to the Counting Crows .
"Janis Joplin Preserves will be served"
One of Janis' most well known albums was Pearl ... And preserves refers to Jam . Sounds like Pearl Jam to me!
