I shall be walking around all weekend with my Djembe, hopefully i will stumble upon another crazy ass circle like the one i found right after the dead last year.
A doumbek is usually ceramic or metal, while a djembe is traditionally made of wood. Their bodies are different too. A djembe is more hour-glass shaped, i.e.: djembe: >< link! doumbek: )( link!

Anybody at Roo 1 remember the giant drum circle where people were banging on trash cans and anything they could find. I think people were playing for like 24 hrs plus we should bring that back!!!
I would loooove to be a part of this... but alas. I have no drum I've taken a few african percussion classes, play marimba, but never bought a drum (i'd love a djembe all to myself)... Go figure I spent that $15k on my cello. Hrm
sounds good. i need a new head for my djembe, but she still plays. i can change heads on a drumkit, no problem... i dare not touch the knots on my hand drum.

Same here. I have to go to a specialty shop in Austin to get my hand drums fixed because the heads are so different than that of a drum set. I will be there with a broken doumbek head because a very unintelligent friend hit the head with a stick and cracked it. Hopefully some tape can doctor it up and the tone won't be that bad.
I let my wife,Amy, order some drum stuff. She found a cool set of bongos. So then she calls me in to pick something for me and I stagger in, point at the Screen, and say "Those are cool. Thats it"turns out to be 2 sticks. Oh well, click, click, click thats me. I did cut some grooves in one to get a fish stick kind of sound. Peace & Love, Steevo & Aimo ;D
