Amen. I don't think it's really even appropriate for Radiohead....imho.
i agree. save it for superjam.
It doesnt work so well in the tents...
Alot of people hate on glowstick wars and call it immature and whatnot but you gotta take it with a grain of salt, they happen... I do cringe everytime i see a lightstick fly through the air though, the rings fall at a pretty slow speed and they're mostly harmless... Like people say, dont throw sticks or anything heavy and dont throw near the band or the tapers...

i've been watching the phish IT dvd everyday since i got it last week and i must say that war during ghost was afreakingmazing. some tripping kids (who usually hate on phish pretty hard) were over last nite and they were quite amazed at the spectacle, and began to understand why i listen to phish so much
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**

What is this IT and where can a buy it, i've only recenlty jumped on the Phish and Dead bandwagon, arguably according to most to late since neither band exist anymore, atleast in reality, so what is IT and where can i get IT
"IT" was the name of the festival phish played in 2003 in Limestone, Maine. Phish gave 4 out of 7 of their big festivals a special name. Oswego (99), Big Cypress (99) and Coventry (04) were named after the places they were held in. The 4 they named were "The Clifford Ball" (first major fest in plattsburgh, ny in1996). The other 3 took place in Limestone Maine. "The Great Went" in '97, "The Lemonwheel" in 98, and "IT" in 2003. Of these 7 festivals, "IT" is the only one they have released to DVD. You can pick it up at Best Buy. They did make a small docu-style movie of the Clifford Ball entitled Jimmy's Dream, which features the second set of the second day of the fest. Though you would have to search some dvd-trading sites to locate it.
On the festival/glowstick front:
The catalyst for the glowstick wars that plagued phish's career until the very end happenned at The Great Went in 1997. In the second set of the second night, Trey asked Chris Kuroda (phish's lighting director) to kill the lights during the Harry Hood jam. He did, and as phish played the final jam of that set under the stars, a massive glowstick war erupted. Afterwards Trey urged the crowd to "Go get more of those things." And They did, for 7 full years, until, as I said, the biggest one I've ever seen happenned at IT in 2003. They continued through Coventry but one never happenned again on the level of the one at IT. I don't think one ever will, either.
yeah... I was dancing my way through the crowd in front of dave & friends at Vegoose last year during a big glowstick war. people were not throwing glowSTICKS, but the thinner glow necklaces/bracelets. Even the little bracelets kinda hurt when they nail you square in the face, which happened to me a couple times. But it looked really cool. I'm not sure how it would go over at a radiohead show. Probably not so well at most venues, but the Bonnaroo crowd would probably dig it. The perfect song would be "spooks" but that song is so short, it could be over by the time you get the glowsticks in the air. I think myxomatosis would be a great glowstick song, or the second part of sit down stand up, or the above mentioned part of paranoid android... right after Thom sings "god loves his children... god loves his children... yeah..."
but whatever you guys do, please DON'T throw the hard glowSTICKS... please throw the soft glow necklaces
i figured i started this thred, and ill take some responsibility and get the glowrings. I hadnt made my purchase yet, and hadnt really taken the logistics behind a glowwar into effect. All i know is there was a glowstick war during trey and panic last year and it was the tits. GLOWRINGS FOR ALL!!!!!! (just dont aim for thom and the boys, cuz he has been known to get his panties in a way in the past about fan antics . Thoms made some pretty negitive comments to crowds that mosh.)
I highly recommend Rhode Island Novelty. Check out www.rinovelty.com
On the left side if you select Light Up products and Glow items chemical you will get four pages of options. You can get tubes (50) for $17.50. The sparkle glow necklaces and the swirls are really cool, but they are more expensive (swirls are sold out right now). I just ordered a bunch and if you are lucky enough to camp near my group some will be included in your "welcome to the neighborhood" package.
You don't need an account to order, however, a "business name" helps.
I'm also going to suggest you explore the LED GLow section too. The 3" glowing balls for $3.20 are completely (completely completely) worth it as are the BA-FLURCH for $9.75 per DOZEN.
I don't work for this company, I just have occasion to really love glow shit.
i just got my 500 sticks in the mail. anyone have any suggestions on when to throw...I'm thinking during either Kid A, Videotape, Myxamatosis, Let Down, EEIRP, National Anthem. Any creative ideas? (Sit Down Stand UP is my preference, but they haven't played that on this tour yet)

It's been said all over the place. IF THEY ARE GLOWSTICKS, NOT GLOW RINGS, DON'T THROW THEM, THEY HURT.
Plus, the general consensus is that these are better for the jam bands that are used to them. Please don't mess with the performance. Radiohead puts on a great show including visual effects. I don't think they're gonna need any help with that.

sorry, I meant to type bracelets, not sticks. Also, I've thrown them at a radiohead show before, and it was great. I wasn't the only one who thought so either.
If it's rings, I retract my comment. Thanks for the clarification.
There's a big difference in playing style between Phish and Radiohead. With a jam band, it's easier to handle distractions than when you're trying to carry out a very specific movement or transition to technical perfection (note, this is not a value judgement, I like both styles). My concern is some tripping fool hitting one of the band members or some of their gear with a glowstick and pissing them off.
Am I the only one who doesn't get ruining a perfectly good show by pelting people with objects?
People will be so blown away by Radiohead, the need to interrupt peoples experience with pieces of flying plastic will become irrelevant.
If you HAVE to take pieces of plastic and wing them in the air at total strangers , could you do it during Dresden Dolls, when it would at least be a less emotional, more visual show anyway?
I'm going to tend to agree with uneven here. The general Radiohead fan base, and more likely than not, Radiohead themselves, are not going to enjoy the glowstick war.

i kind of agree about the distraction since radiohead isn't a jam band....but this glowstick stuff went down last year when trey was on stage and noone hit ne of them...and i am one of those people that was rathered per say "messed up" and i was in the middle of it and was lovin it...the whole great music and the visuals were amazing
2010 coachella, bonnaroo, nxne, summerfest, grateful fest, all good music festival, camp bisco, gathering of the vibes, lollapalooza, and burning man 2009 mountain jam, bonnaroo, telluride bluegrass festival, rothbury, all good music festival, a few ledges festival, lollapalooza, and burning man 2008 rothbury 2007 bonnaroo, langerado 2006 bonnaroo 2005 bonnaroo
You listen to Phish so much because of their glowstick wars???
no dude i listen to phish so much because they fucking rock.
my friends witnessed the amazing spectacle that is phish (including the glowstick war) and began to understand what rocks about phish. the glowstick war just sucked them in, and they were grooving to chalkdust torture (which comes after the ghost jam on that IT dvd)

I kinda think this is all a moot point now, because if people bought thier glowRINGS and want to throw them at Radiohead then it's gonna happen regardless. I really don't think it would be that big of a distraction, and it's not like it's gonna last the whole show. One song with glowsticks is no big deal. I think that if it's at the right time, it would be pretty amazing.

which brings me back to my point, the right time. does anyone have any suggestions, it'd be great to try to be coordinated...how cool would it be if at the exact same time if like 3 or 4 places in the crowd threw them at the same time.

A friend and I were all set to buy about 200 glowrings/sticks for Radiohead, but now I'm not so sure we'll be able to pull it off. Seeing as five or six other people (at the VERY LEAST) are planning the same deal, does "the more, the merrier" apply here?
Post by syracusefan on Jun 10, 2006 16:50:51 GMT -5
^yes it does. I have a thousand glowsticks coming tuesday before the show. I plan on giving away about 800, but bringing those 200 to the show and adding to the war. cannnnot wait

I still don't follow how this is a "big deal". I didn't pay 200 dollars to get hit by objects while I'm watching a very emotional band play very emotional music. I'm sorry dude, I don't see it.
I equate glow stick wars during Radiohead with me trying to start a circle mosh pit during Phil Lesh. Both are dated, and both are inappropriate for their time and place.
There is such a thing as inappropriate times to do things, but that's my opinion and I'm hoping enough people agree that the Radiohead set doesn't get f_kked for us.
Why Radiohead? There are many other bands that would be way more fitting, and will be much more tolerant of a glowstick war than Radiohead.
I agree with the other poster who proposed the idea of moving the glowstick war to Phil. I'm just hoping I'm far enough up in the crowd to avoid all this nonsense.

I don't see why it's such a big deal ??? A glowstick war during radiohead would be sweet! It'd be easy to absorb the music while enjoying a glowstick war, no problem.
