i am not gay, but i am guessing there are a few on this board and i just want to say that i am sorry. i am sorry that our president feels the need to stop you from getting married or having a real life rather than focusing his energy on solving REAL problems (many of which he caused). arent republicans supposed to be all about staying out of peoples private lives??
it is really embarrasing to have these people representing me. And it is stuff like this that makes me want to bash my head against a wall or move to italy or something.

I have to agree...I live in a town that has a very friendly attitude toward everyone...I just don't get where they won't allow gay people to adopt or let them get married...Who made them God? I don't understand where the government fights people who want to adopt children out of the foster system or even worse they allow gay people to foster the kids but if they want to adopt them they won't let them....Let the kids fall in love with these people and let them realize a stable and loving home and then god forbid they want to adopt them and they fight them tooth and nail. Don't these poor kids have a choice or a say in the matter....Uh oh, don't get me started...I can't stand Bush or should I say Cheney....I will also stop ranting now....
When are they gonna stop pulling this card to get the righty christians all scared right before election time. Its worked in the past, but it will be interesting to see what happens this year. America in 2006 is a lot different than america in 2004.
people are not as brainwashed anymore. Excuse the horrible pun, but Katrina washed away a lot of that. actually, fall 2005 was really bad for Bush . . . lol

All the time, they opened a martini bar right next door called the Chic-a-Boom Room and I actually used to live in the front of Kathy and Dan's house, one of the owners. I've known Virgil & Kathy for years and celebrated my birthday @ Chicaboom the first night they opened the martini room. Love it! 1470 West closed about 1 1/2 years ago so we don't have the club anymore but it still rocks downtown. I am a Skips' girl if you know where that is! We'll be flying the Skip's flag at roo so if you see it you know it's us. I'll have a tasty benedict @ Kelly's for you this weekend

I love how they want to protect the "sanctity" of marriage (religious term, by the way) by only allowing men and women to marry...so a loving homosexual couple who has been together for 20 years can't marry, yet Britney Spears can get married for 55 hours...and she's not ruining the "sanctity" of marriage?
I appreciate everyones rant here. I am gay and my partner and I have been together for 8 years. This will be our 3rd Roo and I cannot wait. It is really nice to see the support here. This is really the worst president we have ever had. I am not interested in children, but no many that are. We are not married or looking to get married. I was always taught" each to their own" I always say what ever floats your boat as long as no one is getting hurt fine with me. I would like to know though how many gay people besides us go to Roo? IMO I think he's just trying to push through what he can before 2006 elections - I think the house will be majority Democrats after that election, making it much tougher for W to pull his shenanigans.

I think the Dems stay out of people's private lives, and Republicans try to stay out of people's finances. Libertarians are the ones that stay out of both. (simple version)

Great point - I would venture to say that gay divorce rate would be much lower than the current hetero rate (now exceeding 50%).

but i do think gay people should have the same rights as all americans. whats next, are they going to "protect the sanctity" of voting? i wish they would stop all of this nonsense and protect the sanctity of our right to privacy from phone taps and what not. or how about the sanctity of the border. that would be a good one. i think alqueda is more of a threat to our ways of life then gay people settling down.

The lastest bill never pass the senate thankfully. Mr. Bush is such a tool for the Church. Whatever happened to the seperation of church and state. I am very proud to drive by this big church that has a huge banner proclaiming ALL are welcome to their church. Makes me smile even though I don't believe in any sort of god. How can the church and government think this racism is healthy?
This is just a smokescreen to get the right wing all worked up to vote. That way they forget the terrible job Mr Bush and the conservatives are doing and vote based on one issue that doesn't matter at all. IT just doesnt matter, who cares if 2 guys get married. Good for them. We have better things to worry about.

A desperate move by Bush to win back the Christian right he thought he had in his back pocket. And honestly, the most ignorant thing written on these boards (MELIKECHEESE) is Bush is a tool for the Christian right. Learn more about politics. The political power of the Christian right is extremely limited and downright limp. Otherwise there would be no abortion, pornography or gay sex period. Gay marriage is sort of the bone the conservatives are trying to throw the Christian right to keep them appeased as keeping marriage same sex is not only a Christian agenda, it is a conservative agenda as well (see the definition of conservative).
Bush is a tool of private enterprise as is most of Washington D.C. And as long as people like Dudewheresmyroo and Melikecheese spew hate towards the Christian right, the left will never ever gain the support it needs to push the corporate lobbying not a very nice persons who continually tilt the system to favor their ability to make money and control the economic markets. But then pretending leftists are morally superior to the right is like saying shooting someone is worse than stabbing them in the back.
Sorry if I sound harsh but honestly the amount of smug, lazy patting of backs in political threads on these boards can be downright irritating sometimes. Some people need to read less Chomsky and more Frank...

Thomas Frank's book Whats the Matter With Kansas and his columns for Harpers are always really insightful and basically say everything you outlined here. He's definitely one of my favorite political commentators.
oh.... i get it .. i wasnt aware that private enterprise had so many votes. i thought it was all of those backwoods religious bible belt red states that elected bush. im not saying bush isnt a big business politician. they all are. but to say hes not a religous extremists or that his supporters who voted for hi are not religous extremists is just dilusional.

I'm bi, if you count that. I'm not usually too open about it, since a lot of people view bisexuals as sluts or people who desperately want attention. Still, this is obviously a nice crowd, so I'm not so worried about announcing it.
And just to clear up any misconceptions, I have been in an exclusive relationship (for over three years, now) with a boy and I do NOT date (or kiss, etc.) girls on the side. Exclusive is exclusive!
Jay Leno had a good line last night that I just heard on the Opie and Anthony radio program. Leno said, "Gay marriage has a disapproval of 55% in this country, while President Bush has a disapproval rating of 65%." Seems Bush is liked less than the "threat to the sanctity of marriage."
Yeah, I agree completely. Third party candidates should be more prominent, its a shame the system is set up against them. I am hoping Texas elects Kinky Friedman, an independent, for governor. It would be an anomoly in Texas politics and a drastic change from Bush and Rick Perry.
I think it is a possibility. It hasn't been released whether enough signatures were gathered to get him on the ballot. Once that is known and there are enough signatures, I think he may have a good shot. But perhaps I am being overly optimistic and giving other Texans too much credit for making a good political decision once in their life.
