The AC repairman just left my house, and told me that my current unit is basically FUBAR, that repairs would be at least half the cost of a new system, and that whoever installed this unit in the first place did a crappy job so even with repairs it will never be as good as replacement.
I thought he was just trying to push me into buying a new unit/getting more business for himself, but then he gave me the contact info for a company that sells units at wholesale prices and then contracts with local installers to get units for really cheap. Either way, i'm too damn hot to care about $5000 right now.

Our AC in the upstairs crawl space is leaking and there is a ton of water coming through the ceiling into our downstairs master bathroom. So that’s fun.

I'm assuming you've called folks by now?
FYI, here's a trick that can slow down the damage until a pro gets there. Pull a water hose up to the unit. Stick the end down in the drip pan. Make sure the nozzle is flat against the bottom of the pan.
Okay. Now have someone turn on the water just long enough for it to reach the end of the hose.
Quickly turn off the water and unscrew the hose from the spigot. Gravity will create a vacuum and you'll be able to drain the drip pan down to a manageable level.

Yeah, by the time I read this, they’d been out to diagnose it. Finally had the AC guy out to actually fix it today. It was a really bad clog, but he did say that, other than that, the unit was in good shape. Now we just have to deal with the water mitigation people, and then hopefully, we will have things back to normal for a little while. It’s sort of disheartening though. This is the third house we’ve owned and the first one we’ve ever had to make a homeowners insurance claim on, and this is the third claim we’ve made since March. I don’t know if we were just lucky before or what, but I’m kind of sick of talking to insurance adjusters.

But if there’s one thing this thread is good for, it’s providing perspective. Property damage can and will be fixed. It’s a pain in the ass, and it’s getting old, but if my biggest problems are related to broken things, I guess I’m doing pretty well.
My luck is the fucking worst. The wrist is still broken, it still hurts, and I am worried about it. I paid off my car two weeks ago and a dude just hit me and fucked up my baby. Luckily he did have insurance.

That really sucks! Here’s hoping that his insurance doesn’t mess around and gets you compensated fully and quickly!

I really hope so. I am kind of lucky he had insurance, apparently we paid a high premium because most in NOLA don't! I am just so sad, the title came in the mail like yesterday. It was the first car I ever bought brand new and now it is fucked up and I'll have to drive it fucked up.

I was just talking to a coworker yesterday that said in one year she paid off her mortgage and two car loans (hers and her son's). She was debt-free for two weeks before her husband totaled his car and they needed to buy a new one.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

It is like the never-ending cycle. You think you are free and clear and life drags you back under. I did get lucky this time. The dude admitted fault and his insurance is reimbursing me for all out of pocket expenses and paying back my insurance for fixing the damage. I decided to go through my insurance because he had goauto.com insurance and worked for Lyft and I was worried I would be driving around with a banged up car if I waited. Every time I see the damage I get mad and depressed.
I love my friends but every time we get together, they end up only talking about work (they all work in semiconductor).
Literally bored out of mind here.
Get a board game out!
If we were at someone’s home, absolutely. But we’re out. Luckily, I have one other person to talk to who is not an engineer. We frequently just yell talk to make the boys realize they talk shop TOO MUCH.

So, how's your job going?
its great. I come in, put head phones on and out the numbers in the right boxes. No one calls/texts after hours. Work stays there. I don’t have to talk to anyone if I don’t want to.

Called ahead, drove 40 miles to test drive/buy a car. It was sold as I pulled in. Literally saw the "key transfer" ceremony bullshiz.
That sucks.
Although I pretty much was on the other side of that two years ago. Went out to test drive a car and just as I’m signin’ the paperwork I heard some guy come in lookin’ to buy the now sold car fer his daughter.
Drivin’ 40 miles to have that happen though, fuck that really sucks.

Now the pipes that the AC drains through are apparently broken, so there is water coming out through the siding on the back of the house. The fun never ends.

OMG! I'm sorry you're going through all this. What the heck?!

Thanks! It’s kind of crazy, right?! Some of it couldn’t be changed (like the tree falling), but I think some of it was stuff that the last owners may have known about but never bothered to fix. I’m just hoping that we are getting everything out of the way in one big push and that it will settle down soon.

Crazy town! I can't believe the bad luck that house has.
