I can't really do the Kraft because it's just a mushy excuse for pasta. If I do go for a box, I go for Velveeta shells. Hearty real pasta and creamy cheese! And I don't keep milk or butter in the house normally so if I am going for that box drunk, I couldn't make the Kraft. Velveeta doesn't need any other ingredients!
Velveeta >>> Kraft
There is no comparison. Kraft is what you make when you're too stoned
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Kitty is staying overnight at the emergency vet. Urinary blockage again. I'm still sick as a dog, hacking up my lungs but I have to go to work tomorrow in order to have the time off for Bonnaroo.
The things we do for animals and places we love.
Kitty is coming home this afternoon as long as he continues to pee! This vet visit won't cost me $1600 like last time! This is more of a yay but whatever.

Interesting. They had told me that some male cats are just more susceptible to urinary blockages. And that once he's had one, he'll likely have more in the future. I have him on a special food diet, and this time, we caught it in time before it got bad. The only thing weird Nuggs eats is cardboard.
See I usually think most mac 'n cheeses are sub par unless they have some processed cheese in it. When it's based in real cheese, I usually find it bland and oily. Decent at best.
the secret is Gouda.
My new favorite combo is half Gouda and half Irish cheddar.
Edit: an salt. If Mac and cheese is bland, add salt.

Correction. The secret is Smoked Gouda. That and bacon. Cheddar is also what I use, and if I feel real fancy I throw Goat cheese crumbles on top.

I'm not sure I have ever tried Gouda in mac and cheese. When I am at a restaurant or a friend's house and eat mac and cheese, I always douse it in salt and pepper to make it ok, but I still find it bland (now just more salty and peppery).

Buffalo chicken mac and cheese is the way to go. Seasoned chicken tenders. Blue cheese. Maybe some green onions. Yum-o!
Do you have a recipe? That's basically combining two of my favorite things.
I got it from a restaurant. I have some recipes but I've not tried them yet.
This one isn't quite like what I had but it comes highly recommended, though:
Buffalo Chicken Mac n' Cheese
Ingredients: 1 box of your favorite pasta, cooked according to the box directions 2 cups shredded chicken 8 oz pepper jack cheese 8 oz Vermont sharp cheddar 8oz Velveeta cheese (or American) 8 oz cream cheese 3/4 cup chunky blue cheese dressing or dip 1 cup milk ( I use 2%) 1/4 cup hot sauce 1/4 cup bread crumbs 8 slices fried bacon, crumbled
Directions: In a large sauce pan shred all of your cheese and cube your cream cheese, add in dressing and milk. Stir over medium heat constantly until it is smooth and creamy. Pour into cooked strained pasta and stir.
In a bowl toss chicken and hot sauce together.
Mix chicken into your pasta.
Transfer mac n' cheese into a large baking dish.
Top with bread crumbs and bacon crumbles.
Bake at 400 for 15-20 minutes.
Edit: Looking at the recipe, I would use crumbled blue cheese instead of dressing (probably a cup or so) and I would use breaded chicken tenders instead of shredded chicken. Maybe skip the bread crumbs but top with some chopped green onions.
The best is when they yell at other people's kids.
I have a feeling something like that was more prevalent last season because the coach gave a speech about positivity at the beginning of the season, and every parent was told they have a code of conduct regarding their behavior during games that not following would lead to them being asked to leave. I have also overheard parents talking about it being better than last season in hushed tones when I am walking around. Last night was about people getting more bent out of shape about the umpire's calls than they needed to.
If you really want to see insane parents, you should go to a wrestling match. Nowhere else will you see an adult scream at the top of their lungs for their little junior to "kill" another child.

Easy recipe: Cook up some pasta and set it aside. Take one stick of butter and melt it in a medium saucepan. Add 1/2 cup of flour. Stir constantly and cook until the starchy smell is gone. Slowly add 3 cups of milk, stirring/whisking constantly. Bring to a simmer until it costs the back of a spoon. Add some kosher salt.
Pour off one cup of that nice bechamel you just made and save it for later in the week.
Toss in 2 cups of your favorite combo of cheeses to what left in the saucepan. Stir until melted. Add the pasta. You can serve creamy as is or bake it off topped with some bread crumbs or crushed crackers.
See, my wife makes excellent mac and cheese so I try not to tread on her "stuff" so I just wanted to get it from a restaurant. If one of us already makes something well, the other doesn't venture into their territory.
For example:
Her mac and cheese tuna melts breakfast entrees (eggs, pancakes, french toast) bacon (baked)
Me tacos
chili grilled meats bacon (fried)
There are also a bunch of things that neither one of us owns that are pretty much situational until one of us "owns" it.
Okay... I also reeeeeally didn't want to make mac and cheese.
Boston Market has an AWESOME mac and cheese with nothing in it.

Hmm. I wonder if there is one around me. I'll keep it in mind for the next time.

Southwest is having a sale, and it appears that the flight I need to book might be part of that sale, but the website is experiencing difficulties and will not load properly so that I can try to book said flight. :(
I hate posting in here but I want to right now. I'm so stressed and disheartened and not even excited about Bonnaroo at this point. I've been stressed about having the time off from work, and I've also been sick for almost a week now with a horrible cold. I can't take time off to stay home and rest because I need to save that time for Roo. On top of it all, my cat is back at the emergency vet today because he is not any better; he seems to be getting worse. I paid $600 on Tuesday, and today I had to pay $1000. They are suggesting surgery (to prevent urinary blockages in the future) but it will cost anywhere from $2500-$3500.

So sorry to hear all this Especially about your kitty - that is so tough. I hope though that once you get to Roo, you can focus on having an amazing time and well-deserved reprieve from these stresses!
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

I was in a crazy situation last year and didn't even think I wanted to come anymore. But once I got to the farm I felt so much better, and had the best time.
Sorry about your kitty, those medical expenses really add up. I was unemployed and my dog was diagnosed with cancer last year. I got a care credit card and financed that shit forever. Hope he's doing better. I was a vet tech and that food makes a huge difference for a lot of them with urinary problems. There are a couple brands, sometimes it's just a matter of finding the right one. Also, if you look on the manufacturers website for food a lot of times there are coupons or rebates.

I hate that you're going through this, JHOinTN. As far as the sickness and time off go, I'm sure it will be all worth it once you get to Bonnaroo. I hope Nuggs has a successful recovery. I've known quite a few people to go the Care Credit way when their pets are in need of medical attention and none regret it. It is interest free for up to 24 months.

oh my goodness! I'm so sorry you and your kitty are sick. hang in there. thinking of you both
Please send prayers and thoughts to my grandma - my aunt died last night of unexpected kidney failure. We're not sure of the exact cause; part of it may be stress-related, as my cousin (aunt's grandson) took himself out of rehab a week or two ago, but other than that we don't know much. This was my grandma's sister, and she also lost her mother earlier in February. While my grandma has handled it relatively well, I know death has been on her mind a lot the past year or two - we've had a few discussions about how she wants things sorted out when she dies and stuff like that. I'm sad too, obviously, but my aunt lived in California so I only saw her once or twice every year or two. I'm really feeling for my grandma now more than anything, and I worry for her mental state. This is bound to be stressful for her, too.
It's scary for me because I have significant anxiety around my immediate family dying, and my aunt was only in her mid-70s. It terrifies me that my grandparents could die so young too. Most of the women on that side of the family lived (or are living) until their 90s, so this was really a surprise. I'm not really one for prayer but if you are and could say a small one for my grandma, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks for the replies guys. Vet called and kitty is NOT blocked (again) but there is definitely some issue, they just aren't sure what it is. So no surgery right now. That's some savings but this trip will still be pricey.
Jaz so sorry to hear about your Aunt. I'll keep your family in my thoughts.
