I found out this morning that an old friend committed suicide yesterday. It hasn't sunk in yet. He was always so happy and full of positivity. My heart is heavy.

I'm so sorry. It's one of the most confusing and painful experiences to know someone who has committed suicide. My heart is with you.
Today I will sit at my desk and cry. First my festie bestie get diagnosed with breast cancer, had to get a double mastectomy which put her on bed rest. Everything came out great and she is doing well, but ACL is out for her due to the timing. We were supposed to be leaving for ACL tonight, I had the time off approved MONTHS ago but due to a publication closing on Friday (that is nowhere near closing) I was informed I can not take off. So my bestie is stuck at home on bed rest, I am stuck at work and for the first time in three years we will miss our annual girls trip. Fuck Cancer. Fuck bullshit publications.
we've come to the conclusion that we're 95% sure she has some pretty severe germ-related OCD.
Do you guys have to pay the water bill or is it included with rent?
Also, your hot water tank can keep up with that?
yep. we pay water. we haven't received our first bill yet (should be any time now), so I anticipate some major talks being had.
aside from the long showers (and other reasons we believe she has OCD) she is constantly running faucets and takes like 4 minutes to wash her hands, and is doing laundry like every other day and washing tiny loads.
not sure how we're going to approach it without making her feel too attacked. but it's going to need to happen.

Make her take the whole water bill, and take her portion of a small bill.

This is why I never had roommates. Lordy. Jeremy does laundry for work regularly, but he makes sure to have the laundry setting on small loads when applicable. My water bill is always outrageous, hopefully you can nicely nip it in the bud.

Water bills are so weird. I live in a desert. I lay my city more to pick up my garbage than I do for water. I had to drain and refill my pool before summer this year, and it only bumped my bill up $4.

In the last ten years, I've lived in four different cities, and my water bills have varied widely from place to place, with Las Vegas being the cheapest.

Our water bill includes the garbage/recycling if the latter is available. It's about half the bill.

Oof. That's a rough spot to be in but a conversation is definitely going to be necessary.

WOW. richmond is so skethc when it comes to water. they really like to fuck over residents. it took us a week to even get ahold of them to turn the water on when we moved in in august.
my boyfriend, who was also lived in pittsburgh this summer, had a *$600* water bill over the summer at his richmond place. his sister and niece stayed at his place quote a few times, but they truly just jack the prices because they can.

Holy shiz. That is so much money. The month I refilled my pool my bill was 60, and that includes $15 for trash pickup and $10 for recycling pickup, plus just a flat fee for sewer/water connection. I love what it does for my wallet, but the water situation out west is pretty quacked up.

She is!! And because it was breast cancer of the ducts and they remove it all, she should be in the all clear. So there is a positive out of all of it. I am actually super swamped at work and it is really hard to miss being on the road with as busy as I am. So I guess in a weird way, another positive.

Why can't I ever bring my hydroflask into a festival? If they're worried about people throwing bottles, I guarantee that having a full hard plastic water bottle hurled at your face is going to hurt 99% as much as a full metal water bottle.
I hate that I have to buy a new bottle AND that I have to drink warm water all weekend.

That sucks. Well all of it but the warm water. I like my water room temperature, which makes me weird apparently. But back to the subject, that fucking blows and is some bullshit.

Its weird to me that you have to pay for water when you rent. I've never known anyone that's had to do that as a renter.

I've pretty much always paid for water when I rented. I think the only time I didn't was when I lived in a duplex and my landlord didn't have any way to separate the utilities for the two units so pretty much everything was included in the rent. That was so nice.

This. I lived in a four-plex and the landlord paid all utilities and it was "included in the rent" supposedly. I have never lived in a complex though, so I don't know if that is different, but I think you still have to pay for water there as well. What a luxury to not have to pay water bills.

Samesies. My first apartment had 3 different residences sharing 1 water meter, so everything was built into the rent. Even if it was jacked up a bit to cover everything, I appreciated having a fixed amount in my budget.

Yep! I think my landlord was pretty much just keeping that place for tax purposes because she told me once she lost $400 a month on it. Our rent was only $900 a month for a one-bedroom in Brookhaven, which is not the most expensive, but it's definitely not Atlanta's cheapest suburb to live in, and it included water, gas, garbage, internet, and cable. We did have to pay electricity, but it was a pretty small place and our bill was never more than like $70.

I don't know a single person here that's ever had water not included in their rent. The only utilities people pay for are gas, electric, and cable. Garbage, recycling and water are usually included in the rental price.
Maybe it's just easier with the way the city bills for water? Where's cdevaney? He lived in Troy for a minute.

I've never paid for it in an apartment situation. I did rent a house from a guy once who charged me for water. That's the only time that I can remember in the ten-ish rental situations that come to mind.

Thank you, I was starting to feel crazy for a minute. This whole paying for water while renting an apartment thing is bananas to me. I understand it for a rental house though.
