Normally I'm unhappy with my job, and the typical wage slavery bullshit I have to put up with. This week wasn't an exception. But however, I can find three things I am happy about currently.
1. I got written up a bunch of times last summer, mostly involving crashing forklifts. After going one year without incidents, my record is expunged - even though I had been surviving on a final warning.
2. My August performance bonus (paid out today) was higher than expected, about $50 worth.
3. I don't work Fridays most of the year, so hello weekend...

OK I swear to God this is the last time I'm going to talk about Negativland for the next 48 hours. In this thread. They are playing Bumbershoot and as part of their contract (i.e. do this or you won't get paid & probably never get invited back in the future) they had to create 3 custom product placement spots for sponsors of the fest that must be incorporated into their set. In other words some of the artists playing Bumbershoot are expected (legal'ese for you have no choice if you expect to be compensated) to say a word about some of the fests sponsors at some point during their set. I love Negativland! I Love Them SOO MUCH!! Here are those obligatory ads that will be included in Negtativland's Bumbershoot set.
I'M FUCKING BOOPIN' IT!! edit: For the love of whatever is holy please somebody tape this set!

especially when the owner expects you to go above and beyond and cut down on waste/maximize their profits when they are paying you nothing. luckily I like the managers and my job is not that hard besides dealing with incompetent f*"cks most of the time. have a 30 day review coming up soon so hopefully will be making slightly better sh*t pay.
I am leaving this 60 degree Chicago weather in 3 hours. Boss is paying for me to go to Vegas for the next 4 days. Paid for my flight and my room so I was pretty excited. Yesterday, he emailed me that I am going to Beatles 'Love' Friday night and that there is an open tab at the Mirage pool bar for me. Today I had an envelope on my desk with a few grand in cash. Pretty fucking pumped. I may be less sober for these four days than I am at Bonnaroo.
Judging from your Snapchat, I think you have a pretty good view of my office building from your hotel room window.

Although I'm not altogether crazy about my retail management job, my department is currently top in our region (we're exceeding expected sales by 23%) and I'm starting to get recognized for it. It feels nice. Our regional manager and one of the company VPs was in the store today, and we talked about plans to expand the department. And for once, while talking to the bigwigs, I didn't feel like I was stammering my way through it and just bullshitting answers until I could get away; I felt comfortable. And at the regional meeting this year, our events director wants me to join him in giving a presentation on running events, because apparently I do that well. Three years in, I feel like I'm really coming into my own at my job - I'm starting to actually give a shit. In fact, I've felt that way about a few areas in my life, and it's just weird. I can feel myself maturing.
The weird part about it though is that my mindset towards business is changing. I'm fairly liberal in my political orientation, and I despise corporations and hierarchies. I think our employees should be paid more and I hate business policies that screw people over. But I can do more about that if I go further in my job. I can choose to be more lenient about our more assholish policies, and I can advocate for my employees. I do that now to the extent that I can, but I have very little say in those kind of things. All that I really want in a job is to feel like I'm making a difference, and I didn't see like I was really contributing to society in a real way. But now I'm not so sure about that. Maybe it's okay to be a businessman, especially if I can affect some sort of change from the inside out. And those bigwigs have it kinda nice, and they're not all indecent money-hungry people. The word "career" isn't looking so scary...which in itself is scary lol. But I'm getting ahead of myself.
In short, my anxiety is down, I'm actually kinda kickass at my job, and I'm just feeling pretty happy these days in general. It's nice.

After three solid years of horrible back pain, enduring x-rays, MRIs, injections, multiple doctors, physical therapy, too many prescriptions, and countless medical bills, we may have finally figured out what my most aggravating & painful issue is. Something that I have never heard brought up until today. I am so very grateful for making the decision to see my 5th doctor, and using his physical therapist. Even though I am drugged out of my mind right now because of the pain I am in after my 2.5 hour long physical therapy session, there is finally light at the end of the tunnel. A tunnel that won't include a spinal fusion for a long, long time hopefully. So I am saying the biggest YAY right now that you can imagine.

This is excellent news! I know how much your back problems have caused you a lot of issues, so if you were going to finally get some awesome news, there's no better part of your life for it to happen in. Very, very happy and excited for you.

Congrats! Spinal fusions suck (I've been through it), so I'm glad you get to dodge that bullet.
My corporation has entered into a sponsorship with a leading concert venue in Pittsburgh. What does this mean for me? Dibs on the box and tickets (up to 8) where I only have to pay taxes. Im having this internal battle where the line is of "I bust my ass for this company Im going to finally get ahold of a perk I can enjoy" and request like 5 shows (minus the ones Ive already paid for) or "let others play the game too" We;'re a fairly young company but here are the upcoming shows: September George Clinton September Matisyahu October Timeflies October Porter Robinson October STS9 October Bassnectar October The Gaslight Anthem October King Diamond October Skrillex October Method Man & Redman October The Glitch MOB October Umphrey's McGee October 96.1 Kiss Halloween Party
Maybe noone will request tickets and Im helping them out?

You better at least go to Method & Red. And George Clinton.

This just reminded me that George Clinton is here tonight and I totally forgot about it and never bought tickets. This post probably belongs in the grrrr thread now.

What excellent news! Dave told me last night and we both did a happy dance for you!

Just saw George Clinton at Peach and if I didnt have prior plans I wouldve definitely scooped those up. I did request Red/Meth and Glitch Mob tickets. Already bought Umphreys and STS9 tix or I wouldve got those too.
chance the rapper is playing homecoming at a college about an hour from me. so i guess i'm going back to school. my friend is getting me student discount tickets so they're only $15 instead of $40! maybe this will make up for being sick during his set at bonnaroo.
I was looking for something to do in Chapel Hill a couple of weeks ago, Monday night and found Pop Up Chorus at Motorco If you are in the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill area you definitely need to check this out. Think of it as a drinking group with a singing problem. That week it was Love Shack - B-52's and Psychic City - Yacht. The reason for the Yay? The you tube video for Psychic City was actually tweeted by YACHT!!!

I have to say I have studied and sung music for years and in all kinds of environments and this was freaking liberating. Where are you in Illinois? I found this in the calendar of one of the little indie mags there's probably one near you.
BTW, as someone who is incredibly UN photogenic I'm going to one in Oct and one in Nov but will be off the the side somewhere
