I became an uncle this weekend! My sister had her baby a week early, but the length and weight are still a little above average and he and his mom are all healthy! I'm so excited since I'm really the only family he has in Chicago from either his mom or dad's side, so I'll have to spoil him a lot lol
Something that was actually planned this weekend that happened was that I rescued my first dog! My girlfriend and I adopted a four year old greyhound, he's a retired racer from Florida. Lady stinkyfingers grew up with dogs, but this is new to me so I'm excited and nervous. He's a little anxious of his new environment but I've been told he could be acting a lot worse, he hasn't cried too much (but who wouldn't cry going from playing with loads of other dogs every day to being with people you've only met once and no other dogs).
So, I've complained a lot about my job lately... but we locked in Harry Potter & the Cursed Child and I just sent my first email about being the lead on the account.
Guys. I'm getting paid to do Harry Potter stuff. Everything I've worked for has paid off.

One of my best online mom friends is moving here in a couple months!! Really excited. Especially since we can probably "pod" our boys together for playdates since we're both being super safe with the covid stuff.
I officially got a job today after being unemployed for like 4.5mos. It feels a little bittersweet because I wanted a different job more than this one, but I had to drop out of the interview process for the other one bc they were taking too long and I couldn't let an offer pass me by.
But I'm trying to let it go and get excited. It's in North Sydney, so the commute is a little annoying, but I'll get to take the ferry and pass the Opera House to and from work every day as part of my regular commute! And it's a good little pay bump from my last job, which is super nice. And it's with a well-known international arcade/bowling company here, so it's not your boring retail marketing job. So that's exciting too!
Oh, and we found out a couple of weeks ago that our building IS actually pet-approved. For 3 years we thought it wasn't! So now we're looking at getting a pupper!!!

It's a new day people!
Congrats! Make sure to get a Newfoundland
I love Newfie’s! Unfortunately it’d be mean to get a large dog in this apt. We don’t have a yard or much floor space. We’re looking at either a mini labradoodle or a small breed through a rescue. But the rescues are all big dogs, or the small dogs all have health/behaviourial issues I just don’t think we can reasonably take on.

Oddly enough some large dogs make great apartment pets because they're super lazy. Like I know great danes are that way!

I grew up with black labs bc my family cared more about dogs than my allergies (I'm an asthmatic dog allergy person. But jk, I loved the shiz out of those dogs). I've had a toy poodle for the past 10 years and he's the best dog I've ever had. (Dave Maynar we named him Wayne chicken, after Wayne chism, bc he had a good game against Vanderbilt and we were listening on the way home from buying him). No allergies is key, but he's also a giant snugglepuss, and it's only gotten more prevalent as he ages. He finds the largest stack of throw pillows on the couch to sleep on. He sleeps on my butt at night. My wife is probably jealous of the amount of touching we have.
Get a greyhound that's a retired racer. Mine is literally just a big cat at this point lol
Are they high maintenance? I know you need a big fence. And if they run, they are gone.
No they are very low maintenance. If you do want to let them out you'll need a 6 foot fence. Otherwise they can't be let off leash ever. We do not have a fence so we take ours for a few walks a day. He is very lazy so he doesn't need or enjoy much exercise. He gets zoomies a few times a day when he bounds around but other than that he doesn't seem to ever want to run any more. He's very chill and spends most of the day napping. They are great dogs if you want a lower level of commitment.
It's really hard to get a greyhound from a breeder so chances are you'd also be adopting a retired racer. They need to learn how to be pets instead of working animals so it does take them a while to adjust. Separation anxiety can be an issue for them at first; ours grew out of that in a couple of weeks. They also may have a hard time learning how to live in a house, so things like stairs, hard wood floors, and glass windows can confuse them. Ours was also a little distant for a while and still is sometimes fine being alone. It took him a while to warm up to us but now he seems very happy and enjoys the retired life. I could talk about my cute boi forever lol I love greyhounds so much, chances are we'll get another at some point in the future

Very interesting. I’ve always wanted to adopt a retired racer, but we have no fence and 4 cats. Post a picture please.

Labs are my favourite dog. They're so sweet and kind. But being in an apt and the shedding and the all that is why we're getting a mini-Labradoodle. It's the best of both worlds for us.

I've never had a greyhound but I know a lot about them. If I had the literal floorspace to accommodate a large dog like that I'd seriously consider rescuing a retired racer. They are very sweet, gentle and surprisingly calm. Poor babies have had such a hard life racing, I'd love to rescue one. There are a ton of greyhound rescues too because they're racing dogs, so finding one can take a while, but isn't too bad. Esp since the more we look at breeders here we're looking at 8-16 month waitlists

Edit-NVM I scrolled up. He’s beautiful.
Ours is cat friendly, I made that a requirement in case I want one when we eventually move out of Chicago. I was personally surprised by how many were cat friendly when we were looking.
I didn't realize greyhounds were difficult to adopt from breeders. I knew a lady that had two, she had them for forever and I know they never raced, because I asked her.
Does a city with racing make a difference? We have the fairgrounds here that does horse and greyhound racing.

2 artists I booked for a show earlier this year that got cancelled made it on to Lyrical Lemonade’s playlist. Pretty cool to see them get the success they deserve. Great guys too
