In 2 days, after taking up residency in Seoul for two years, I will hit the road again- this time through SE Asia. First stop Hanoi, Vietnam and then down the country into Cambodia and after a few weeks there up into Laos. From there to Myanmar and after a few weeks there, depending on the political climate, down into Thailand and Malaysia and finally stopping in Singapore, where I'll board a plane to Managua, Nicaragua to start my next teaching gig. Going to be an amazing three months, I can feel it. Be kind to me, monsoon season.

Super envious about Vietnam! I've always wanted to go. Burma is amazing and I really enjoyed it, I'm sure you'll love it. Same for Cambodia.
If you make it to Thailand and have some free time shoot me a message, I'll buy you a beer. Don't let the politics deter you from visiting. As of right now it's 100% fine.
EDIT: and I'm going to Laos next week, I'm looking forward to it!

If you two hang out, make sure to take a picture. The ladies of Inforoo will appreciate it.

I'd love to go back to Thailand. I'm thinking once I've got just a little bit more dough saved up of taking a trip there or to New Zealand (Thailand is winning out handily). I went as a kid to Bangkok, Chiangmai, and the hill tribe villages along the Thai-Burmese border. I was deliriously ill with traveller's sickness in Chiangmai, but Bangkok and the hill tribes were awesome, and I'd love to see them through more adult eyes.
Oh yeah, and since this is the Yay thread - I just got a fat little tax return that could go a long way to funding such a trip. Hmmm...

Just played my first festival! Got to play an hour set Sunday afternoon at Rooster Walk in Martinsville, VA with my band The Amazing Mongooses (my dad is the drummer). Later that night I was jamming with a local band named Left Hip Pocket around a campfire when we got work of a staff party up the hill that they were letting any artists participate in. So I got to play bass in a Superjam from 2:30 to 4AM with like 200 people in attendance and a bunch of phenomenal musicians I had just met seconds earlier. All while camping in VIP and getting to hang out with my 90-year old grandparents, who live in the same town. My year is made.

just got finished with my annual review at work, and i've never had a remotely bad one, but they still freak me the fuck out every time. so glad it's over!
the next two weeks are going to be crazy. we've been trying to sell our house for over a year so we can quit our jobs and take a cross country trip and do some other traveling. we're almost there! we should move next weekend, close on the 11th, and leave that day for bonnaroo homeowners no longer! we're going to rent and tie up our various loose ends at work and such over the next several months, then plan to leave out in the spring. it's amazing and scary and incredibly exciting.
I bought a new car on July 8th, 2011. Brand new. When I first got in and drove it, it had 3 miles on it. I put $3500 or so down, took out a loan for the remaining 18k. Nearly three years and almost 75k miles later (75,000!?!?) - the car loan will finally be gone today. It'll be mine mine, not mine but with the credit union too.

Thank god. This week reached the point where my tenuous grasp on reality broke. The joy of working on the bleeding edge of technology is that when things go wrong, they go horribly, horribly wrong and you wind up with a bunch of replicants running around liquifying people. So much red tape involved with that.
Its not even 10am and I'm ready to put a swirly straw in a bottle of gin and call it a wrap.
I had to quit my job a few months ago for personal reasons. I moved back home and a lot of rough stuff was going on in my family, I was really afraid I wasn't gonna be able to hit roo this year. I bought my ticket but was considering selling it for awhile. However, just 2 days ago, I got hired at a pretty awesome job. It's not a long term career or anything, but it's going to enable me to go to roo! f*ckin YEAH.
