I'm a big college hoops fan! Love the WVU Mountaineers and Kansas Jayhawks!
Memphis is definitely strong this year with Rose and Douglas-Roberts running the floor. But I still think that Michael Beasley>Derrick Rose. I wish Huggins could have brought Beasley to Morgantown with him!

Ugh.
I hate Memphis. I hate blue and white.
After we (UAB) VERY NEARLY beat them last weekend, they acted like ***holes and ghetto thugs in general. One of their players hit one of our fans in the face.
They are overrated, their players are thugs and cannot control their behavior, Coch Cal has a dirty mouth and doesn't care about the reputation of his program (except winning), and their fans are rude and classless.
They don't deserve the national title...I hope they get beaten like the redheaded stepchildren they are.
Sorry for the rage. I LOVE college basketball - I go to almost all my team's games, and I follow the sport pretty closely. However, I was present at the UAB-Memphis game last weekend and saw the outrageous behavior that came from the Memphis team and fans. I cannot and will not cheer for Memphis ever again.

I'm sure the fan did nothing to warrant a strike to the face.

Regardless of what a fan does, a college basketball player should be able to control himself enough not to hit a fan in the face.
Anyway, I heard he's pressing charges...good for him, imo.
This is a paradox for me though...I don't EVER like to cheer for Tennessee, but I really can't stand Memphis either...lol
I understand that. Just sayin' that it's a bad situation for a player who is already stressed from a narrow victory that was decided in the final seconds of the game, tired from running up and down the court for 40 minutes, and in a hostile environment.
Racial slur gets tossed out? Yeah, dude deserves to get tagged.
Post by bamadancer on Feb 21, 2008 15:40:41 GMT -5
I don't know if there was a racial slur, but I do know the player who hit the fan actually didn't play the entire game. I understand being pissed or whatever...but seriously.
What really ticks me off is that Memphis is doing absolutely nothing about it...and are instead mad at UAB for "putting their student section behind the bench", even though it isn't.

Bama, I gotta say girl...your team coulda beaten anyone in the country that night. Verrryy well played game. UAB is my 2nd fav in conference USA, course I'm a true blue and gray fan first and foremost The incident with Niles was unfortunate and I believe there was fault on both sides. Frankly, wouldn't bother me at all if he was suspended for a game or two, it is not like he is integral to our program anyway. Hope you can moderate your hate and just enjoy the series in the future! Go Tigers.....Nothing sucks more that a BIG ORANGE!

Glad there are some classy Memphis fans left in the world I was really disappointed by what I saw at Bartow last weekend (from Memphis AND UAB, I will not lie)....sorry for the rage, no hate towards you here. Just your team
I wish. I'm saving for roo ya know! Plus, all our games are sold out for the season and since we have risen so high in the polls, scalpers are making a killing. Tickets for the UT game are going for $10000!!

I don't care what gets tossed out. A player cannot hit a fan. You get security and get them to throw the fan out.
These are 20 year old kids who can let their emotions get the best of them. No one is perfect.
I can see that I am the only one who is going to take this position and I'm fine with that. At least we discussed it in a civil manner.
I actually agree. While i do think the athletes be should punished appropriately for their actions, i don't think people should be disgusted by the athletes. People hold them to too high of a standard, they aren't saints, they're college students, and people tend to forget these athletes are still in college and some are just 18-19 years old.

Well, we may make the trip up there anyway. I'll hit you up if we head to Memphis in 2 weeks!

I'd love to hang with you bama! But I don't live in Memphis anymore, I live close to Jackson TN. But if you are coming through that area I maybe we can meet up at a great sushi place I know (can you believe we have great sushi in Jackson, TN?)

I think Tennessee plays with such intensity and heart that Memphis will have a hard time keeping up. Also,Tennessee is as deep as any team in the country. I look for it to be close with UT squeaking it out at 92-89. GO BIG ORANGE!

Very entertaining game. As a fan of sports in general and no bias towards either team, I really was happy with the game's outcome. I think I like TN more than Memphis, if anything just for the coach. It's good to see a guy that's serious about his job but at the same time is laid back enough to have a good time with it.

Yeah, because NOBODY likes Memphis for Coach Cal. No sarcasm intended...lol.
Anyway, I missed the game but saw the highlights. Both teams played extremely well. I kind of expected it after how Memphis played against UAB last weekend. March is going to be an interesting month, that's for sure!

Dont get your hopes up too much UT fans, you have to face a very tough Vandy team at their place. Vandy has beaten the last 5 number 1's at Memorial and it would be such revenge to beat them while they are number 1. I am glad to see the "weak" SEC is number 1 in the land though. Go VANDY!

It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."

That was a ridiculous start to the game! Memphis first 8 fg's were three pointers? Ridiculous! Anyway, it was a great game but I don't think either of those teams are the true number one. Even with a loss to Okie State over the weekend I think Kansas and UCLA are going to be the toughest teams to beat in the tourney.

Kansas + UCLA = OVERATED
I can deal with that, but do you have any reasoning to support your claim? Two of Kansas' losses have come to top 25 teams on the road, one of them being K-State who is one Kansas' biggest rivals. Oklahoma State was an unfortunate loss but it also was on the road and only a one point margin.
UCLA has one of the best players in the country in Kevin Love and also only have three losses. One to Texas, and as I said before they are a worthy opponent, another to USC who is another big rival and one slip-up against the Washington Huskies.
And I think we can all agree that the Big 12 and Pac 10 are better conferences than Conference USA.
