It's a proboards issue. They updated some shiz yesterday and now a bunch of people are having the same problems. Some things they suggest trying........
Try a diff browser....use Firefox instead of Explorer and vice versa.
Try googling Inforoo and going through their link instead of using a bookmark.
I dunno what else to say other than that. They're working on it(shrugs)
That's good to know. I thought he canceled his account and changed his name to Phish N Bait. Apparently I am a very weird person.
I'm still having a lot of problems with the 50 last post thing. I usually have to refresh three or more times. Firefox and IE, work or home. But that's way better than having to be a guest, without a doubt.

I almost put this in the grrr thread, but maybe yall will listen. I'm sick of the thread police. Yes some threads are ridiculously excessive, or just ridiculous, and they should be taken care of. But when someone starts a thread, and someone comes back with "oh, well that's here, there, and there" and they get so uptight about it. Maybe you could just eliminate threads after a certain time. Like if there's been no activity in a year, either get rid of it, or maybe come up with some sort of archive for old threads. Maybe in the archive it would remain a dead thread, until someone "resurrected" it. Like the thread would stay dead, but in a separate archive, and if one of the old members has some funny thread they want to bring back they could. Hell, if we had this option, maybe you could even kill the younger threads, maybe after a month or something. I don't know, these are ideas that I'm coming up with as I'm writing, but I just had someone pull the thread nazi crap with me, and it's stupid.

Maybe the people that have less then 10 posts could look around a little before they ask questions that have been answered in dozens of threads already.
btw - it's not the thread police - just a suggestion that the answer might be found in another thread and a friendly pointer to where that thread is located.

if you have to go back more than 3 pages, it's acceptable to start a new thread, IMO. yes, some will be the same, but who cares? obviously if it's that far back, no one has talked about it in a while, so i doubt people will care if there's something "new" to discuss. sometimes the thread "suggestions" come off as people just not wanting to talk to others, or not wanting them to feel as much a part of the community. at least, that's the vibe it seems to send off to me sometimes.
however, there are those who are not taking time to look around before they start a thread that's exactly the same as the one 3 threads below it. and yes, that's annoying, and deserves a point in the right direction.

example: i've seen at least 3 different weather threads created discussing what the weather would be or asking what the weather would be.....when there's a weather thread that is updated daily (by Troo and others - who do a lot of work) and the weather is discussed a lot. In this case it's necessary to link to the existing thread because there's a lot of discussion going on already so why have 4 threads talking about the same thing taking up space?
and lelie....just try not to take it personally. If below is what you're talking about.......i think you're overreacting just a little bit:
but mine is coheed and cambria, even though im not gonna be seeing them
Uh-oh you better tell the thread police that there might be *gasp* a double thread
And I will be at Coheed and Cambria too, but mostly just for the chance to see Warren w/them.
all they did was ask if there was a thread like this and they even stayed to discuss in your NEW topic
I know you got smited and that sucks because it's for no real reason......but don't feel bad. It's just an internet "karma" system that is really just meaningless in the long run. Be happy that Roo is almost here and don't let people's comments get to you .

my guess is that may be what set her off, but wasn't necessarily the only example to what she is referring to as a whole. there have been threads referenced to new-comers that haven't been responded to in over 4 months or even up to a year. that, IMO, is silly.

If I see a duplicate thread, I usually just stay away from it. I feel that if no one responds to these threads than the OP will get the picture and realize they must be missing something somewhere else which makes them read a little deeper.
I know some people just try to be helpful by redirecting you to a more predominant conversation that will answer all your questions and sometimes they may come off the wrong way.
If anyone here ever offends you just let it roll off your back. I can assure you that no harm was meant and all is well in the inforoo world. ;D
Two points here, one is that by pointing people to the previous threads it tends to concentrate the discussion, and possibly give a lot more insight into the possible answer. Also in a thread like the guilty pleasures one which has not been updated in a couple months already contains the answers from lots of inforoosters including some who do not post much, and as this is a thread kind of meant as a get to know you, entertainment thing it will make it a lot more interesting, especially to the original poster who would could read back and see the guilty pleasures of a lot of people already.
So why when meg comes on, and gives you a link to the correct thread, where it will be more relevant do you guys take that as an insult? To me she is doing work for you,and helping keep inforoo under control. Is it some sort of ego thing that the topic has to be discussed in "your" thread?
Truthfully - I don't try to be the thread police - I just am on here alot and remember what has already been discussed and sometimes the answers have already been really hashed out in another thread.
I don;t tell people to not post in the new one - I only mean to point them to where they might get more information - because the question was asked and responded to by dozens of other people
I think if someone posts a link to to show a person where that topic has been discussed ad nauseum it is just a friendly gesture. It's like saying, "hey, here are some threads that may help or intrest you." Even if the thread is old there is still pertinent info in them that you can go back and look at and make it active again. If someone pointed them out to me I would be like, "thanks for pointing me in the right direction!"
As long as someone isn't being rude and saying, "hey KANYE, this topic is here, here, and here you dumba$$!" then it seems totally acceptable to me to point them in the right direction.
Maybe we can start a new thread called the "where is that thread" thread. And mods or other vet inforooers can help out newbies find what they are looking for. The link to that thread could be added to the left margin on the main page. Then instead of fighting about duplicate threads a person can just ask for help finding what they are looking for. I know I have trouble with the search function a lot and it has taken me a year to even remotely find what I am looking for w/o asking Meg....I imagine it can be hard for newbies too.
So...getting off soapbox now, but I do think my suggestion would cut back on some bickering since "thread police" have been referenced a lot lately.
It can get irritating to have three or four threads for the same thing. It is hard enough reading what has been added in a day w/o having to read 3 or 4 on the same topic.

I thought it up when Meg was called the reference librarian in some other thread but forgot to suggest it....or start it. I'd start one but not sure the best place for it. Probably in The What Stage. I'll start it in What & mods can go from there.
