Tay Tay did not disappoint. Record 70,000 at Nissan stadium. Phoebe brought out boygenius. Taylor sang 3&1/2 hours and seemed genuinely happy to be singing in her hometown. Worth every penny I spent for nosebleed seats.
Well generally I try to get to venues early and be close to the front, and right after the band ends and everyone leaves i move up to barricade. I think of that as step 1 since if you're in the back you'd have to fight your way up post show. Once I'm on/close to barricade I try and loudly yell "Could I please get a setlist!" or "Excuse me are there any setlists?" or "I'd be really appreciative if I could have a setlist" short, polite, directed phrases like that. I also like to throw in a good hands together plead because it can make the crew laugh & helps you be visually identifiable. The manners and points about being grateful I think help a lot. Especially if you're asking, rather than just yelling "setlist!" aimlessly like many do. It specifies you in the crowd as someone asking nicely. Otherwise, I was gifted with having a voice that carries really well. I can outshout most crowds. Note shout, not scream or yell, this is crucial cause my please's will carry without coming off as crew being screamed at. I also have long arms, so if it ever comes down to a snatch competition I can be in the mix. Otherwise? Lots of luck. Important context for my 4 LCD setlists is that they have about 9 members on the stage at any given time. Far easier, especially if you wait long enough, to get one from them since they just have so many. Lorde I got lucky and asked the 1 crew member who initially said no, then did come give me one. Bleachers was a snatch competition. King Princess I asked a venue employee if she could get one because the House of Blues had a curtain close. Gecs I just got lucky and was loud and had my pleading hands right when crew was looking at the crowd. Generally a crapshoot! But I do think by doing those things I give myself good odds. There's been far more shows where I didn't get one.
I'd be curious what others do/if there's anyone else who collects them. Sometimes I do feel a bit greedy, but concerts are my true passion, and getting a physical token of those experiences is something really treasure.
my brother once snagged a setlist because he heard someone say the name of the guy cleaning up the stage post show, so he asked him by name directly for the setlist and he got it
I've had luck politely asking the FOH sound guy before the show. Then complementing they sound after (if it did sound good). Usually if you are around the same area around them they will hand you theirs when they are packing up.

Fever Ray was incredible last night, it was a truly special performance. I’m very grateful that they graced our city with one of their shows, and the crowd showed that appreciation too. The crowd was excellent too, except for the drunk asshole who stumbled next to me 45 minutes in, following a women he had been harassing. After she asked him to stop touching him a few times, I calmly said “leave her alone.” He threatened me, asked if I wanted to “sit down”. After a minute of him staring me down, they disappeared, and I didn’t see them again. Certainly ruined the next couple of songs for me but I’m feeling way better about it now that I’ve slept on it. Also just a reminder to other white guys like myself: please call this behavior out when you see it. This asshole only felt comfortable harassing her surrounded by white guys, but when called out he realized he had no support and nothing to go on. And go see Fever Ray they’re amazing

glad u did that, absolute king shit. its super important to use your privilege to make a difference for the better. and remember: no matter how scary someone seems, theyre most likely not gonna do shit to you because they don't want to catch an assault charge. and if they do, fight as dirty as you can as its self defense

my bender in LA is complete! Four Tet live shows are the best I've ever seen (topping Jeff Mills @ Movement last year). Was emotional the first night (Angel Echoes 127 version & Romantics hit right in the feels) and was loving every second of it. Was on the railing nights 2 & 3 and got to shake Kieran's hand as he left his setup on the last night. Was a solo trip for me but made some great new friends at the shows and ended up hitting the afters on the weekend with them. DJ Seinfeld on Friday exceeded my expectations and then last night the Live From Earth party was some Real Berlin Shit.
Will definitely need another LA trip in the next few years. Now just two weeks of work then I'm off to The D!

Not that I didn't believe anyone about the current M83 tour, but it goes hard. Live show is closer to a psych rock show than ever, with some trippy visuals and a neat light show. I'm glad Anthony is happy just doing what he wants to do after he was clearly uncomfortable in the spotlight, even it means a set of mostly the new album, Dead Cities cuts, and only a smattering of the stuff in-between. (I must have missed when "My Tears Are Becoming a Sea" became a hit? I know "Outro" was at least used in a billion movie trailers.) I missed the Junk tour other than a partial Coachella set, so this was my first proper M83 experience since HUWD. I loved having Morgan Kibby on that tour but the woman they have in her place these days is just as great!
I want to give the MGMT Oracular set at Just Like Heaven next weekend a chance, but if they're sucking, I have no problem just walking over to see this M83 show again instead.
Those poor swifties last not. They got dumped on by mother nature. Had to take shelter in the stadium until Taylor went on after 10PM. Missed Phoebe and boygenius. Sucks.

Fucked Up absolutely killed it on Friday. There were a lot of old heads there (respectful tone), so there wasn't much moshing, but I still got down and had an awesome night.
Seeing Wage War for the second or third time tomorrow bc my buddy is going and tickets are cheap. They're always a good time.
Four Tet last night was siiiick. That light show was spectacular, but even more impressive was the surround sound. I kept closing my eyes getting lost in the music only to remind myself, “Oh yeah the crazy light installation!” I do wish they had sold less tickets though. The crowd felt odd at times - one of those crowds that moved against one another as opposed to with each other, idk. Would have paid twice as much for half the amount of attendees.
Extremely excited for the show this week in BK. I have the same concerns regarding crowd, Avant Gardner always packs the place in. Hopefully it'll be a good crowd tho. Looks like he played around 2 hours, what time did he go on?

A little after 9 PM. I think he’s now a cross over success with a lot more bro-y types at the show. It’s also confusing for some people to be in the round, so when it’s packed like that, people just shove their way into the lights with no consideration for others.
My group stayed just outside the lights behind him and had a fantastic view of the show. No regrets going and sticking it out to the end as it was a fantastic show. The last 30 minutes were the best since people left early and there was finally room to dance.
Going to come in hot with my own Fever Ray take: at the beginning of the show I was nervous I was going to be let down because the first three songs drag with everyone up on stage just kind of doing nothing. But it got a lot better after that; there's definitely a sense of building up and coming down with the setlist sequencing, and the transitions between "Mustn't Hurry"/"Triangle Walks"/"To the Moon and Back" were amazing, as were the house remixes of "I'm Not Done" and "Now's the Only Time I Know" at the end (need a recorded version of that last one). It slows down a bit, understandably for the "If I Had a Heart"/"Coconut" closer, but the circling lights and reworked, curiously cymbal-heavy arrangement for "If I Had a Heart" made the song feel spectral instead of ominous. There's a part of me that wishes there was a bit more of an element of performance art to the show itself, especially since the costuming/videos surrounding the new album are pretty confrontational, but I also understand that it's not like all of Fever Ray's music would benefit from that. Idk. Overall, though, good show!
Opener Christeene also went crazy. She kept on taking off an impossible number of leotards, each with more holes in it than the last, while singing over noise beats/saxophone riffs about anal sex. Since the show was taking place at the Salt Shed, had an extended banter riff about the Morton Salt girl being a coke fiend that had this middle aged straight guy standing next to me howling with laughter. Live music truly unites us all!
covering my final show of the semester tonight, Jason Isbell w/ Amythyst Kiah. somehow his publicist is trusting me with a photo pass and i am incredibly stoked.

Tenacious D was in town last night. It was sold out so I didn't go. However I did see a guy in the downtown market today wearing a red jacket in warm weather. I thought "bit warm out for that", kept walking. Then I see on social media later the coffee shop posted and it was Jack Black, hard to recognize him these days with the massive beard!
Rock and roll is not dead because The Hives are alive.
Saw them at the Troubadour last night, and how great it is to have The Hives back. Same Hives antics, same Hives swagger, great new tunes. Paul T, grab 'em as counter programming to one of the big EDM or pop acts at Coachella.
Tim Hecker more like Tim Fucker. Incredible show, probably the loudest I have been to (beating being right in front of the speaker for James Blake a couple years ago) but warranted because the loudness is used create a physical sensation on your body. Opener was pretty good but don't stress if you miss them. But don't miss this tour of it comes to your city

saw The Cure tour opener in New Orleans last night, it was awesome. you can google the setlist if you want, i won't spoil any of it, i think they tend to do a good chunk of the same songs show to show but change it up a bit. but you'll get some newer songs, some deep cuts, and of course the hits.
not much else i can say that y'all don't already know. it is shocking how beautiful robert smith's voice is. might win the award for the voice that has changed the least over the years. i really enjoyed the newer songs, looking forward to that new album whenever it drops.
the audiovisual aspect is simple but effective (remember you paid like $70 for this show). one thing i appreciated which i can't remember if they did the last time i saw them is pre-show instead of house music, they played the sound of a thunder storm. super fucking cool, robert understands us.
the show was loud enough that it's a good idea to have earplugs handy. which you should always have handy! but some arena shows are louder than others. this wasn't Tool loud, but it was pretty loud. and the earplugs helped towards the end of the show when the group of drunk ladies behind us got super chatty.
i haven't bought a tour shirt in forever because i always balk at the price, but shirts were $25! both my wife and i got one.
this was the first time in years i did the two hour drive to new orleans and turned around and drove back home after the show then went to work the next day. worth it.

Last show I saw from them was their last show in New Orleans in 2016 and it ruled, and my next show is tomorrow in Houston. This review has me excited!

I think it was shirt #12. Basic black shirt with The Cure and a picture of them on stage I think, dates on back. I haven't brought it in from the car so I haven't seen it since last night.

Went to Joy Oladokun's album release show last night at Brooklyn Bowl. New album is Proof of Life. Really good show. She was stoned and on mushrooms, by her admission.
