I think that was my favorite set from The Cure last night. Setlist was basically perfect and the pacing of the show with the long block of slower songs that lead into the dance party of a second encore was perfect. Cant wait to see them again this year. Probably the best show I've been to this year so far.
Hope they keep playing WCIBY!! We're gonna have some rain tonight, but really hoping for a similar show/experience.
Finally got to see Pallbearer after years of waiting!!!!!!!!!!! 😍😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰🥰😁😁😁😁😁😁😁 they were too loud and it was borderline impossible to hear any of their solos
went to paramore last night. got a call from a friend as we were leaving for the show that they had two extra floor tickets. they let my sister and i use them, so my husband ended up being able to come and used our nosebleed tickets. we posted up right in the center in front of the soundboard and it was SO GOOD! we could actually see everything for once and had plenty of space for dancing. i haven't been to a show with my sister since the last time beyoncé toured and i forgot how much it really is my favorite thing in the world.

Can't even describe how good the Cure was last night. Fucking like a fine wine. Somehow the rain and thunderstorm helped us, because it pushed the start to the show back 30 mins, and we sat in a good hour and 15 mins of traffic waiting to get in, parked in some wonky spot, and walked the rest of the way, just to hit the field right during their first song at Blossom. Hated getting to the venue, got absolutely soaked, then no rain for the next 2 hours and 45 mins and an absolute ripper of a set. As said above, their double encores are pure bliss. Nice seeing them not at a fest, so we could get the longer set time. Loved every minute of it. www.setlist.fm/setlist/the-cure/2023/blossom-music-center-cuyahoga-falls-oh-1ba6e544.html

Do go see Les Claypools Flying Frog Brigade if you get a chance. Band includes Sean Lennon and Harry Waters, Claypool out here collecting the offspring of rock legends.
In the middle of the set they cover Pink Floyd's "Animals" in it's entirety, and they do a really good job with it. You can tell care went into it, all the synth sounds and effects are in there and they hit all the notes, crowd absolutely ate it up. Lennon, Waters, and Claypool all swapped out singing parts, super cool. Great light rig too. I love Claypool but the whole show exceeded my already high expectations. Would be an absolutely awesome Bonnaroo show.

I think there is a case to be made that Cookin' Mama , Jim Watson , Arch Stanton and I witnessed the greatest ever Fleet Foxes show last night in Orlando.
To buy this case you have to believe Robin when he said “our shows last year were by far the best of our career.” I’m not having a hard time buying this because both Roo and this Orlando show sounded like a level up from the two shows that I saw in 2018. And if you watch the Boston Shore YouTube vid, it looks like this set up is comparable if not identical.
I’m not willing to entertain anything pre-Helplessness Blues as being the GOAT Fleet Foxes show. The tour following HB might have been better because they were drawing from two 9/10 albums instead of those albums + a 8/10 album and a 7.5/10 album. I’ll have to go back and watch what they were like back then. My guess is that there is much more production and instruments up on stage now that make for a more crisp sound than what they were doing back then.
After 6-7 songs I was telling myself “wow this is really great. Every song has been crisp. Sound is phenomenal. Best I’ve heard Robin’s voice.” Then Robin later said “we made a pact back stage to make this the best show we’ve ever done, and that’s coming true right now thanks to you all.” He was partly referencing that he brought a kid on stage to play a guitar during WWH and they crushed half of Lorelei on request out of nowhere. You could also see Robin hyping the band up in between songs in his own way that made it seem like he was really trying to leave a dent with this show.
Then when he came back for an encore, he said “we usually do 4 songs here, we are going to do 7 tonight.” So they added on Oliver James, Tiger Mountain and Shrine. Everything he said there jives with Setlist FM so far for this tour. They did 2 hours.
Going back to buying Robins opinion of the Shore tour being the best they’ve ever sounded, I think the clear debate would be between that Boston show and this Orlando show. They were both extended, special shows compared to the rest of the tour in the midst of their best era (again I still need to look at the HB tour in 2012 to see if I agree with Robin.)
Pros of the Boston Show:
- It was recorded. That matters. If a tree falls in the woods…
- It happened first. So if they are just running back essentially the same thing as last year with a few tweaks, it could be argued that the whole thing is less special.
Pros of the Orlando Show
- Felt more spontaneous. Two songs done completely by request. Having the kid on stage was a really fun, random touch, and it wasn’t bad. Trust me I was worried that would actually be a huge negative, but it wasn’t since they let him stand in the back and strum along as opposed to taking lead which would have been shitty. He got on the mic a little at the end but people liked it.
- Probably too much crowd interaction at the Boston show. At one point it feels like Robin is engaging with every damn outburst at that show and it actually gets a little annoying.
Setlist differences
Boston had If you Need to, Keep time on Me, Drops in the River, I’m not my season, A long way past the past, The Kiss (cover), In the Morning (cover).
Orlando had Oliver James, Bedouin Dress, Lorelei, Sun Giant, Maestranza, Cradling Mother and Silver Dagger (cover).
I actually think Orlando wins this setlist battle pretty noticeably. Boston has the better covers, the better Shore songs. Sun Giant vs Drops in the River is kind of a wash for me. If you Need to Keep time is a big W, but those first 3 songs I listed for Orlando… pretty beefy stuff pulled from their best two albums.
To sum it up, I think the simple points I made for Boston make it the show I’d rather be at. But there is an argument there for Orlando. They weren’t filming. The venue is at a fucking theme park in central Florida. I have no idea why they put in extra effort for that show, but it was really exciting to me.
And of course, they could very easily start doing the same thing at the other shows throughout the tour or one up this one in a couple days.
Either way, we were debating even going to Orlando from Jax after just seeing them at Roo. We got home at 1am last night but I’m so glad we went. I haven’t been to many shows that really felt like one offs in this way so I wanted to jot my thoughts down.
Noel Gallagher sounded EXCELLENT in chicago last night. Won't spoil the setlist but as a mostly-just-Oasis fan I actually ended up loving the whole show! Garbage and Metric had plenty of energy too despite an absolutely abysmal turnout in the audience. If tickets are $20 in your city too I highly recommend!

I saw up-and-comer Taylor Swift at a small 65k-capacity club in Cincinnati last night. She is quite a performer, and I could see her blowing up and playing larger venues very soon. If you get a chance to see her when she rolls through your town, I’d highly recommend it. You could even take the kids!

I've been slacking on my Inforooing recently, as I've seen several good shows lately.
6/20 - Mike Gordon @ Madison Theater: Mike's solo stuff is my favorite of all the Phish guys, and his shows are the funkiest. It's a mystery to me why his shows don't sell as well as Trey's. (Side note: I generally hate this venue because they seem to think its capacity is at least 200 more than it actually should be. This wasn't an issue for this show.) A good childhood friend of mine plays trumpet with him every time he comes through town, which is always pretty cool.
6/27 - Dead & Company @ Deer Creek Music Center: This was my fifth time seeing Dead & Company, and it was hands down the best show of theirs I've seen. The only complaint I ever have with them is that they play a lot of the stuff very sloooooowly. That was not the case with this show. It was far more upbeat than any of the previous four shows I saw, and I'm guessing it's attributable to the new drummer. Bill Kreutzmann must have been slowing them down all this time. My buddy who attended the St. Louis show had a similar assessment. If they're going out, I'm glad they're at least going out on a high note.
6/30 - Taylor Swift @ Paul Brown Stadium: If you had told me five years ago that I would be telling you this now, I would have laughed you right out of the room, but here goes: THIS WAS THE BEST PERFORMANCE I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE!!! You've surely seen the YouTube videos or the TikToks or whatever you kids are looking at these days, so you know that the production was impressive. Those videos did not do this show justice. Being there among the Swifties singing along to every song (but mostly at a respectful volume), feeling the heat from the pyrotechnics, and just witnessing what was basically a Cirq du Soleil show for 3.5 hours was just incredible. There was zero downtime, with every costume change happening in under a minute, while the show onstage continued, distracting you from her brief absence. The only thing keeping me from saying that this was hands down my favorite concert ever were our terrible seats. We were beside the main stage, which means we couldn't see the main stage. There was a screen on the side of the stage, but it mainly zoomed in on Taylor instead of showing the larger production on that stage. We could clearly see the catwalks and the center stage, though, and the productions there were incredible as well. While my girls have been to some pretty great free shows over the years (Jeff Tweedy, Presevation Hall Jazz Band, Over The Rhine, Huey Lewis & the News), this was the first show where we actually bought tickets for them, and I fear we've now set unreasonable expectations.
My 8-year-old did amazing. She was clearly very tired by the end, but she powered through. My 12-year-old (who is on the spectrum) made it about 15 songs (which for many shows, would be the whole concert, but TS played 44 songs) before she quickly started showing signs that she was too overstimulated and wanted to leave. Luckily, my in-laws were just leaving the Reds game, so my wife took her down to them, and they took her home. She was having a blast and then the Evermore era took the wind out of her sails. She just doesn’t care for that album.
7/1 - Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds & Garbage @ Riverbend Music Center: My wife has always been a huge Oasis fan, so when my in-laws conveniently offered to host the kids for a sleepover the night after the Taylor Swift concert, I snagged some pavilion seats for this show for $25. We didn't make it in time to see Metric open, but we caught Garbage's full set. I'm just a casual fan, but I really enjoyed their set, especially the 5-6 songs I knew. While the crowd was relatively small (I doubt there were more than 30 people on the lawn), Shirley Manson was really grateful to have many people there at all, knowing there was a sold out stadium show and a sold out FC Cincinnati game right up the road. (She did heap some praise on TS for being a badass.) I loved the Noel Gallagher set. The first half was all High Flying Birds stuff that I'm not that familiar with but will be quickly familiarizing myself with now. The second half was all Oasis plus a cover of Dylan's "Quinn The Eskimo". The show finished with "Don't Look Back in Anger", which was among the most fun sing-alongs I've ever been a part of. I'd be remiss if I also didn't mention how pleased I was when Noel got into it a little bit with some guy who was shouting stuff at him and telling the guy's teenage son how fucking annoying his dad is. I feel like I got the full Gallagher experience.
Ambassador Of Fun you’re such a cool dad, my friend! glad Taylor was everything and more that y’all hoped for. it’s been really cool to hear reactions from parents who took/went with their kids and were just absolutely blown away at how it all went.
on the flipside, Dead and Co. is absolutely more locked in on this tour then ever before. I caught 2 shows myself and have watched many more on stream, and there’s a clear step up from their past tours (even though I have loved them before this). the guys are having a lot of fun, setlists are mostly great and aren’t afraid to throw in some of the best ones a little more often than they might have done in the past. surely someone in the group or some group of them will continue on shortly after this, but they’re certainly going out with a bang and it’s been fun to watch!

was in vegas last week with melody. for our ten year wedding anniversary i surprised her with Adele tickets. pardon the self-aggrandizing story but i'm very proud of myself:
waited for the price dip closer to the show, bought the tickets the day before we left. she knew Adele was in vegas and she knew i tried to get tickets when they went on sale but couldn't. we get in late friday, eat dinner, sleep, then wake up saturday, which is the day of the show. i suggest we walk through the casinos, maybe head over to caesars (which is wear adele was performing). we walk to caesars and melody sees the adele poster, she remarks "wow it would've been so awesome to see adele but i know tickets were impossible" or something like that. we head inside and begin walking towards the colosseum. we are passing by and again she sees all the adele posters and talks about how great it would be to see her.
walking up i get really strangely nervous. my legs are shaky and i'm dizzy, it was so odd! it was a feeling like i was about to propose so i figured i'd do it like a proposal. i stop her in front of the colosseum, pull out my phone with the adele tickets, get down on one knee, and ask "would you do me the honor of seeing adele with me tonight". it went over REALLY well she was very happy, tears and the whole thing.
the show itself was outstanding. like worth the insane ticket price, worth getting on a plane and flying to vegas. first off it's adele, hearing her voice live is like looking into the face of god. and the colosseum is recently refurbished and the sound is exquisite. but beyond just the performance, the show itself just gets bigger and bigger throughout. insane production, all kinds of wild shit happening. she played all the motherfucking hits. the stage doesn't look like they have screens but the entire sides of the stage are actually shockingly massive screens. there was water, there was fire, it was just super nuts.
and adele herself is just a delightful human being. she bantered a lot between songs, some of it scripted, some of it not. she cusses and is totally inappropriate and delightful. she brought out a fuckin t-shirt cannon. she walked into the crowd and talked to people, that was a lot of fun. the crowd was fantastic, everyone really locked in.
we had front row upper balcony seats which were great, but honestly i don't think there is a bad seat in the place. it's like a 4,000 seater. the only seats i maybe wouldn't want to have is floor seats under the balcony overhang, but i bet even those were fine.
show ran about 2.5 hours, we left at 10:30 and then proceeded to Area 15 to see STS9, they came on at midnight. which i think is a cool stat, to see Adele and STS9 on the same day.

last sunday i went to go see hot mulligan— they’re doing a few one-off headlining shows while on the sad summer fest tour. it was a fuckin blast. this was my first time seeing them so i was interested in what the crowd demographic would be, and it seemed to be mainly young adults and elder emos. pit went hard but people were considerate (didn’t get in it but was close enough to like.. feed off its energy). HM is hilarious; they said they weren’t good at the on-stage banter but def disagree on that. while they were fixing a sound issue, tades goes “… so you guys seen that video of the turtle fucking and it goes ‘eeeuughg’? on three, you all are gonna do an impression of that turtle. it’ll be funny”
i was hoping to hear “cock party 2 (better than the first)” off the new album but i got to hear “john ‘the rock’ cena, can you smell what the undertaker” which was a good compromise. v fun show, would gladly see them again in a headlining capacity

I saw Tears for Fears with my parents, which was great just watching my mom sing and dance like you'd normally expect from a Phish Phan. Interesting that they played their own music during the break between bands, is that a normal thing or is the venue weird? Cause I have never seen that in all my years of concerts.

Gizz doing Timeland during set break is the closest thing I can think of
So I got to see five Dead & Co shows on this tour. They were really great this tour. Way better than the last couple years. And becuase I believe inforoo still has to be a place where rankings are an integral part of life, here is mine from least great to most great:
#5 - Saratoga Performing Arts Center @ Saratoga, NY Night 1 #4 - Jiffy Lube @ Bristow, VA #3 - Saratoga Performing Arts Center @ Saratoga, NY Night 2 #2 - Wrigley Field, Chicago, IL #1 - Folsom Field @ Boulder, CO Night 1
Happy final night to everyone watching tonight's show in SF. Gonna be a bittersweet set.

can't wait for it, gonna have a nice time streaming it at home.
was unfortunately only to able to catch them twice as a new guy in the jam seen but was at Jazz Fest and Dos Equis Pavilion in Dallas, both solid shows but Dallas was definitely a bit more honed in given they'd had some shows to work out the kinks. they're really locked in and hitting stride for this tour, sucks that it's supposedly the end but surely it'll continue in some way, shape, or form
