I do hope the sphere books a show that I would be willing to spend hundreds of dollars alone to see plus plane and hotel fare. The place looks sick but there are very few artists that have the draw to make that scale of custom video effects per show profitable

Caught STRFKR last night in a small (~250 cap) venue last night and it was awesome. Small intimate venue in pretty much a hometown show. The crowd was into it and they dropped a few new songs and announced a new album. Saw them earlier this year at Just Like Heaven and enjoyed their set and was worried they wouldn't be able to pull off the dancing astronauts on a tiny stage, but they still had their dancing astronauts join in on all the fun. Just all around, great time. Love tiny venue shows!
there were some empty seats here and there but it was probably over 90% full. Can't wait for your report! Those overpriced tickets will probably be worth it. Some of the visual elements were so cool, I can only imagine what it was like from the floor.
It also seemed this show was filmed for a possible release later on.
Just watched All Them Witches play Sleeping Through the War, Lightning at the Door, and Dying Surfer Meets His Maker, back to back from the front fucking row of the Ryman.

I also saw them at a similar or smaller sized venue a few years back and it was one of the most fun shows I've ever seen!
MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGS' first US show in LA on Halloween was everything and way more than I could have expected. Everything was ridiculously great.
Man, it's been cool seeing boygenius grow as a full-on live band. Even the difference from their Coachella warmup in April to last night at the Bowl was pretty stark.

Slow Pulp and Babehoven were great at the Bowery Ballroom tonight as expected. Love them so much. Three sold outNYC shows this week is pretty impressive. Confirmed what I already thought that they are the next Alvvays type band in indie.

agreed. the show was well worth my $45. and dave grohl !
Saw Chat Pile tour opener in Denver. What a crazy great show the crowd was amazing and they sound great for a metal band live. Considering going to the Colorado Springs show next weekend that’s how much I enjoyed the set.
saw jo dee messina last night. eight year old me couldn't believe i got to see her and 21 year old me had the time of my god damn life. incredible performer, so many hits that i've been hearing since birth, and a super fun crowd too. hope i can catch her again soon.

hell yeah, sounds like a blast. she was my first concert at the age of about 12 i wanna say? it was either her or Clay Walker, not much passed through my hometown. glad you had a good time.

Finally popped my Fever Ray cherry last night!
Maybe it was a combination of the opener being outright batshit and the things I'd read about Karin's performances being freaky bonkers, but the set was actually more restrained than I expected. I'd even call it elegant at parts. Very captivating.
Most undersold show I've ever attended at the Wiltern, though (we got free tickets - I'm sure others did too). The back two floor tiers were wide-open dance spaces.
seeing Moon Taxi in philly tomorrow for the first time in a while. pretty sure this will only be their 3rd ever show here. ive seen em 3x in the past but i think the last one was at hangout back in maybe 2015 or 16. hope they still do some RATM covers.

have this coming up on Sunday. interesting about it being undersold, here (Portland) it's sold out and resale is over $150 last i checked (which could be tempting to post em but i'm super excited for this show).

saw citizen + narrow head + modern color a few days ago and they all kicked ass. these were all new-to-me bands this year and citizen in particular have quickly become a favorite. this was also another solo show for me and i’m so glad i went bc the dopamine rush i got from being in the pit was insane. during the height of the pandemic i resolved to get off my butt once concerts resumed and stop missing out on stuff just because i can’t find someone to go with. may be top 5 concert of the year for me.
Quicksand @ zhora darling. incredibly special show in a tiny venues first show. I can't wait to see how this place grows, incredible acoustics, triple rock vibes, hopefully it will start pulling in some of the Chicago acts that skip over the Midwest. Goddamn
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?

Saw Foxing and The Hotelier on Friday. Such a great show, Foxing is in my top 5 for bands and have seen them a couple times and they were great as always. I love the appreciation Conor has for the fans and the privilege to make and play music. And Eric is easily one of the most talented musicians in the genre, shreds on guitar and has a unique production style. First time seeing The Hotelier and it was everything I wanted. “Home, Like Noplace is There” is such a special album. Love Christian and was great seeing their humor on stage. For whatever reason, they stopped letting people in the venue for awhile during the opener, but what I caught of Emperor X was awesome. Cool dude doing weird shit.
Was supposed to see LP Giobbi last night but was sick, but felt just well enough to go today to see Femme House. I love a good daytime/early evening show and the rooftop Superior Ingredients is the perfect venue with the sunset view of Manhattan. LP was great as always, love that woman so much. Bad Snacks and Rivka Ruth before her were also very good. Only bad part is the crowd was packed and was constantly getting pushed, but could escape outside easily which is still has a good view and sound.
Finally settled back in Austin after seeing my all time favorite act for the 3rd time. Corona Capital was a dream. One of the best festivals in the world and this weekend proved it again. Great crowds, amazing prices, and just the perfect line up. I hadn't been in years so I was surprised at all the improvements they made. MASSIVE stages, more lighting and easier to maneuver. The fest has a giant layout being at a race track and is 80% at night. The Cure played 10:30 - 1:15am for example. It's a great alternative to the 10pm curfews most US festivals are known for. Getting a ride home on the other hand is...a struggle lol
Pulp were magical. Even though the set was shorter than the last two times I've seen them, the crowd absolutely made up for it. I would say 1 in 5 people that Friday were wearing a Pulp shirt. It nearly made me cry. Huge dance party during Disco 2000, loud singalong during This is Hardcore, and so much jumping for Common People. They even debuted a new song dedicated to Jarvis' girlfriend. Blur were great even with a more subdued set. The crowd was so loud during Tender. This fest had my heart with all the indie rock I grew up with 13 years ago. This was one of Metronomy's last North American shows before a long hiatus so they were top priority and god, they keep getting better every time I see them. Feist rocked so hard. Chromeo was a huge dance party. Black Kids Partie Traumatic is one of my favorite indie dance records ever and they ended up playing it in full. What a surprise.
Mexico loves them some British rock. The crowds for Kasabian, Pulp and The Cure were massive. You have to see it to understand why these same acts rarely tour America. Even Phoenix had one of the biggest crowds of the weekend. It's crazy that Kasabian can only play 1500 capacity venues in America while having 30k people sing their songs 1k miles south of the border. Based on Noel Gallagher's crowd, I bet Oasis could play 10 stadium dates in a row in Mexico City whenever they reunite.
All in all, one of my favorite fests and line ups ever. I ended up with a backpack full of bootleg merch, and a lifetime of memories. Oh, and awesome hanging with you, blurfan! Will be hitting you up next time I'm in Chicago.
Top sets:
1. Pulp (obviously) 2. Metronomy 3. Blur 4. The Chemical Brothers 5. Fever Ray 6. Black Kids 7. The Cure (only because I didn't catch the full set) 8. Feist 9. Kasabian 10. Chromeo

^ Echoing all this, I guess I'll do a brief write-up here since it doesn't have its own designated thread and I don't want to clog up the international fests thread.
My friend and I kept joking that the lineup was basically us trying to relive Coachella 2012, and between the long-ass walk to the entrance and the general shape and size of the festival, it rang true in quite a few ways. Mexican crowds are certainly more energetic than American crowds, while thankfully still being more restrained than the rowdy footage I've seen of South American crowds. The only moment of pushing I experienced was before Pulp, causing us to move back for comfort, but we were still surrounded by fans who knew every word. Just a great, friendly vibe all around. No drunk assholes or influencers. Average attendee age was probably close to 40.
Pulp and Blur were my two main reasons for coming and ended up as my two favorite sets of the weekend respectively, but my surprise 3rd place was Feist. I've seen Feist several times before, and she somehow keeps getting better. Completely captivating. I had not been keeping up with how Kasabian's sounded post-Tom Meighan, but they sound like they never needed him to begin with! Phoenix and Pet Shop Boys' crowds were both overflowing their stages, so I'm surprised they weren't staggered before the headliner on the main stage, but I guess it gets the crowds moving around.
The Cure's setlist was largely similar to the one I saw in May ("Charlotte Sometimes" was a nice inclusion!), and the number of parents I saw taking their kids to that set ensures another generation will still be selling out these things when Robert Smith & co are in their 90's. Alvvays, Yard Act, Sleater-Kinney, and The Walkmen all delivered great sets too. I suppose I should also mention Arcade Fire, who did still put on a great show too, but between their recent drama and the fact that they were the least elusive of the big names, they felt like an afterthought here.
Probably 100 stands of bootleg merch out front, and honestly, a lot of it looked pretty sweet! Even the corporate sponsorship, which was present to an absurd degree (the festival is named after a beer, after all), was done in fun ways, like a Cheetos throne and the Doritos people throwing chips into the crowd for their photo-ops. My body is currently suffering from the bouncing and walking aches, but I know I'm gonna look back on this with fond memories, and would return for a lineup that's even 75% as good.
just found out Thumpasauras is playin tonight and thinking about going. Feel like itll be worth it to hear Struttin! Anyone ever see them live or Guerilla Toss, theyre the opener.
