I was at CD101 Day last night too...I thought Rock Kills Kid and The Sun were by far the best bands there (I personally love OkGo, but I can understand why other people might not). They're both really engaging, with songs that I think would be good on album too.
As far as the Dresden Dolls go, they played a fantastic cover of Jacques Brel's "Amsterdam" (the English translation at least), but other than that I really wasn't impressed. I guess I just don't understand their appeal....they are clearly very talented musicians, but the whole doll gimmick is just too obnoxious and I find their lyrics really really pointless and annoying.

wolf parade put on an awesome show last night. they played everything but 'same ghost every night' off of 'apologies...' and i think 3 new songs. the crowd was the most into it i've ever seen at an indie show. the floor was bouncing from the dancing. i think they would make a great addition to roo.
maybe even better would be the holy f*ck, who opened for them. very sts9-y. they play with the rapper beans a lot and he came out to do one song, which was amazing. i would love to see them do a full set together.

Damn...I'm still hoping that they are one of the additions too...I haven't seen them yet, Roo would make a great first time!

The Stills and Raising the Fawn - The Basement on April 11th.
The stills were pretty sweet. It's to bad they moved to this crappy venue after playing at the newport 2 years ago. I think I was a bit disappointed by seeing them on a larger stage and then moveing to the basement, no light show, no nothing, just a small as stage. They played songs from the new album they have coming out. Sounds like it will be good

The Editors and Stellastar* at Newport April 12th
The editors were a pleasent surprise. Reminded me of a mix of Muse and Interpol. The lead singer had a bunch of energy and I was impressed by the stage presence the band carried. I will pick up there album if I find it used or cheap.
I left about 5 songs into Stellastar* because it was just OK. Im not a huge fan to start with. Plus the show was so loud I heard a constant fuzz over the top of all the music. Thats the only downside with the Newport, some of the shows are just too loud. I must sound like an old man. I should start wearing headphone.
up to Cleveland this weekend for 2 more shows. Will report later.

I just saw Reggie and The Full Effect. They also had Fluxuation and Common Denominator playing. James Dewees was really funny. Fluxuation opened.. they pretended to be mimes and did a little act to R. Kelly's Trapped In a Closet. Reggie played after them and they were good. Common Denominator closed. I was pretty drunk by the time they came on, so I didn't mind all the fake blood squirting all over my clothes. Heh. It was a good show.

Dead Meadow - Beachland Tavern - April 13
These guys killed. KILLED. Psych goodness galore. The drummers style reminded me of watching pink floyd live at Pompeii. He was very powerful, his arms were going all over and we they started jamming he was all over the place. After the opener played they set up some cool light show machines and this sound kept cycling. It was like the first riff of the first song they played. This band was one spot and the songs sounded so good live. I loved the bubble light machine that was pointed straight at the drum kit. The whole kit was light up trippy looking. I highly recommend seeing this band when they come through your town. They need the help to, Matador won't even give them CD's to sell at the shows. If you like psychedelic stoner rock check them out.

The Strokes - Agora Theater April 14
Great show! Better then I was expecting. I feel like ever live performance by these guys I had seen was just ok, nothing great. They played a huge set spot on. Nothing crazy here, no solos just straight up strokes goodies. I liked hearing New York City Cops to start the "encore". They really only left the stage for a few seconds it seemed. The light and stage was set up real cool. Bog light pads and thin light pads with some square lights, really simple and effective. Fab was up top on this big stand and after the show kicked some of the drums off it. You know people like that stuff. Also got a note passed to me from some girls, that was a first it said. Hi We like the way you wiggle. Then saw them in the hallway and they wanted pictures after the show. Very interesting.
Cleveland Rocks! Hit up a nice hookah bar and middle eastern bar after the show. Right by the west side market. Then hopped to about 4 other bars before going home and lighing up something nice.

Wolfmother w/ Deadboy and the Elephantman 05/18 @ Metro in Chicago.
Absolutely amazing, if you haven't heard Wolfmother, then check them out, their show had so much energy & improv, and they would make a perfect addition to the Roo (which wont happen, but I'll see um at Lolla). Deadboy was amazing as well, and I cannot wait to see them at the Roo, they are most defiantly moving up on my must-see list.

You are so right about Wolfmother. That CD is phenomenal.
Unless they have added some more shows, I kind of think they may be a late add. It seems like they are playing every festival out there except Bonnaroo (and they had a gap during the Bonnaroo weekend), and it wouldn't surprise me a bit to see them added. This is my first Roo, so I don't know how they would fit in with the scene, but they would be a phenomenal add.
I'm glad to read all the great reviews for the Strokes. I'm seeing them Monday and can't wait.

I saw Acid Mothers Temple last saturdy in Chicago, and it was great. Definite the heaviest show ive ever seen, if not the loudest! they maybe played half a dozen songs in two hours. I could definitely see them at roo, to represent the heavy psychedelic noise rock. Those guys jam!

ALO last nite at Martyrs in Chicago, amazing show @ an amazingly small club. Makes me wish I was going to summercamp this weekend to check em out again! Dan Lebowitz is a great guitarist, and Zach on the keys is awesome. I cant believe these guys are not bigger than they are.

Boris and Sunn O))))
May 27 - Columbus, OH - Wexner Center for the Arts
Boris was AWESOME! My face was melted to the floor. I have noticeable hearing lose after this show. They did one song that had a ton of feedback and that did it. I really hope it goes away and I get my hearing back. Monday morning and I am still hard of hearing. Had to turn my alarm up much higher. This was a loud show, thats my point.
Sunn O))) made no sense to me. They started some music and pumping loads of smoke into the stage about 15 mins before they got on. It was so smoky you couldn't really see the stage. They wear these weird robes so they look like lil swamp things running around cause you can't really see them. We left after 30 mins of feedback. It was really just crazy feedback. I don't know how you could manage to re-create this night after night. It was alllll feedback. They didn't play guitar, they played feedback. It was not music, it was paint by feedback. Guess thats why it was at the arts center.

Saw The Black Crowes on May 10 and Tool on May 12.
I don't think I need to say that both of these shows were mind blowers. I had been waiting to see Tool live for many years, and the Orpheum theatre was the perfect place to pop my cherry. Even though I was in the second last row in the place.
Saw Soul Position on Wednesday at the Drunken Unicorn in Atlanta. For those that dont know Soul Position is Blueprint and RJD2. It was a pretty great show. Got up right on the stage, but damn it was hot. Anyways, probably about a 1.15 hour set. Played most of the songs off the new album and plenty off the first. Also did a couple of extra ditties with various backbeats (sunglasses at night, billy jean, once in a lifetime). RJ left during one of the songs and came back as Mo buttons, who was this guy that had a bunch of buttons (computer buttons) on a work-out type outfit. And then he had one of those drum pad/sequencer type things that had a neck strap, strapped it on and played while the two of them did a little dance. It was pretty entertaning. Blueprint was quite the showman. But the RJ beats are the best.
Just saw Claypool and his Fancy Band last night at the Warfield in SF and he blew me away. I feel like he broke me down rebuilt me and broke me down again it was an awesome show.
And now my roo schedule is totally screwed up. Before I figured that I would skip Claypool at roo and catch Beck and or Cypress Hill. Now I have to see Claypool again. If Claypool is coming to your town do yourself a favor and buy a ticket.
Goin to see The Roots on monday at the fox in boulder, Co....i'll come back and post after the show and let everyone know how it was. It's gonna be sick for sure!!!!
Going to see moe. in Utica NY Tuesday. Should be a killer show, 2 sets at the Saranac Brewery. Being that it's a hometown show for the band I'm hopin for something big. I'll post back how it goes.
Well I had a good weekend. Radiohead on Friday night, which was the best indoor show I've ever seen, hands down. Then I finally got to see Rogue Wave last night in DC. Got to hear some new songs. They were good. They are a quality band for sure. I stayed for 4 songs from The Stills, and they were alright. I just can't seem to get into them. I think they try to hard to be The Strokes.
Here's a pic from Radiohead. It's from my phone so excuse the quality.
I was maybe 15 feet from Ed, which is closest I've been yet for one of thier shows. TOTAL AWESOMENESS!!!
