as a girl I just guess I mistakenly expect some level of courtesy from dudes at shows.
I wouldn't expect much from Jersey guys.
Haha. Probably true. (Since I'm from Jersey I want to say take offense to your comment...but so far, that has probably been my experience with most of the guys from there.)
Saw Midlake in Philly last night. Really small and packed show. It was quite good though. They played Roscoe the 2nd song into the set. Played a new song too, that sounded good. Here's some pics......
I saw the Black Angels and Brothers and Sisters last night at Emo's in Austin. Very good show. It's hard to beat a solid psychadelic show. Both were acts that would definitely fit in at Bonnaroo.

Saw Galactic Jan 17 and it was solid! JJ Grey from MOFRO was there with them for a couple songs. He lives close by here around Jacksonville. Fun spot here in Jax, Freebird live!
I saw the Evangelicals play last night. It's a band to watch in the coming years. Their live sound resides somewhere between Jeff Buckley and a straight up freak out jam. They're still young and so they're rough around the edges and a little self conscious, but definitely worth checking out. They're trying for a difficult sound, and if they stick it out, they could be really great down the road.

Saw Saul Williams give a spoken word performance last night. Absolutely incredible. I'll write a much longer review of it when my head is clearer on the morrow...but if he ever comes near your towns (I traveled 3 hours for this myself) it is quite the experience.
That Umphrey's show looks HOT! The setlist is unbelievable.
02/27/07 The NorVa, Norfolk, VA Set I: Divisions1 2> White Man's Moccasins, Liquid> Get in the Van1> Divisions Set II: Words> Mulche's Odyssey> Jimmy Stewart> Mulche's Odyssey, Front Porch, Wife Soup> Professor Wormbog> Panama Encore: Andy's Last Beer

First set Division sandwich looks real nice. Can't wait for April tour.
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!

I caught SSM the other night, very fun, love the really unique sound they created, I hear the Detroit rock n roll but then you get awesome guitar freak outs and electro pop keys in play, good stuff.

I seen Dark Star Orchestra about a month ago in Cleveland, what a great show that was!!! Cant wait to come down to Tennessee to see everyone else SO pumped!!!!
I saw Daniel Johnston last night. It was a pretty fun little show. The opening acts were solid (Two Star Orchestra, Bourbon Legends). Daniel was playing with group, Danny & the Nightmares, and a couple of the ladies from Two Star Orchestra filled out the sound. It was a set heavier on rock songs and short on time clocking in around half an hour before Daniel played "True Love Will Find You in the End" and made his exit. No encore.
He seemed to be heavily medicated and it was kind of painful to watch him at times. Going to an outsider music show, you can't help but wonder if people are there because they dig his stuff, think its cool or are looking for some kind of a freak show. What they got last night was just a fun rock show which an odd mix of surf/punk/grunge undertones. Fun stuff.
I've seen some decent shows this year, including Josh Ritter, Annuals, and The Early Tapes. But what I'm really looking forward to is my list of upcoming shows, including TV on the Radio TONIGHT!:
TV on the Radio @ Newport (Columbus) - 3/7 The Walkmen @ Southgate (Newport, KY) - 3/12 The Hold Steady/Thermals @ Newport - 3/17 Ratatat @ Southgate - 3/19 Of Montreal @ Southgate - 3/20 Blood Brothers @ Headliners (Louisville) - 3/23 Mute Math/Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin @ 20th Century Theater (Cinci) - 3/27 Aqueduct @ Southgate - 3/30 The Black Angels @ Southgate - 3/31 Girl Talk @ alchemize (Cinci) - 4/7 Man Man @ Southgate - 4/12 Andrew Bird @ Southgate - 4/14 Antibalas @ Southgate - 4/29 Bright Eyes @ Wexner (Columbus) - 5/20 Tapes 'n Tapes @ Southgate - 5/24 The National @ Headliners - 6/12
TV on the Radio puts on a really good show. Seen them 3 times. Every show was totally different. I think it's more likely you're going to get a taste of a more rock oriented show with an industrial/electronic edge to it. Tunde has one of the better voices in rock right now and is transforming into one of the best frontmen.

Saw the TVOTR show, after they finished Wolf Like Me, i thought the concert was gonna let me down big time, but then the next 3/4 of the concert was awesome! Also, subtle got no love, and while i couldnt understand much of what he was saying, i thought it was a really fun, and pretty trippy, show. I'd like to see both of them added to the roo. TVOTR is really at their best when playing their old songs.

I was at this show too and totally agree about their old songs. Subtle was a nice surprise, I had no idea that they were playing and when they came out I about freaked out!
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.

i hope TVOTR get added, especially since i was supposed to go their show tonight but it sold out sometime between monday afternoon and wednesday morning when i went to buy them. =(
Ziggy and Dudezer, thanks for the TVOTR update. I am going to see them in about three weeks and I can't wait. I just did not know how their sound translated live since there are so many effects and what not. Sucks that Subtle is not opening here for them here in Atlanta. I think that the Noissettes will be pretty good though. But much rather have seen Subtle.
I saw Of Montreal about two weeks ago at the Variety Playhouse and it was a pretty good show. They rocked out almost every song from their new album. It was interesting because they formed in Athens, GA which is only about 1.5 hours away from Atlanta. So they had a special section that was roped off for "Friends and Family" up in the upper deck. The family stuck out like a sore thumb but it was interesting to see their reactions to the songs, the stage set up, and the reaction of the crowd. It was great to see them watching the crowd especially because it was a packed house and everyone was having a good time. Then at the end of the show, I think it was Dottie said a special shout out to all their Moms and Dads.
Anyways, it was a good show, although I always hate it when the band does not play your favorite song - Wraith Pinned to the Mist and other Games - Although they might be sick of that song now that it gets played on Outback commercials non-stop. What can you do, everyone's gotta get paid.

I tend to agree with ziggy regarding their older stuff versus their newer stuff. They still haven't figured out a way to pull of "I Was a Lover" properly, imo. But when they play the songs of the Young Liars EP, they knock it out of the park. And they've finally given songs like "The Wrong Way" and "King Eternal" the treatment they deserve. Sometimes I wish they'd thrown in something from OK Calculator, maybe Sheba Baby or Say You Do, but I understand why they stay away from that material.
I don't know. I think they're trying to make their sound more accessible now that they're on Interscope. I kind of think they have the potential to be massively huge, so while I miss the dance-hall and jammier days of the band, I understand the new direction they're headed in is probably for the best.

Agreed^, those first three songs were just straight up rock, and i was really turned off, but then they started sounding like Tv on the Radio. Young Liars was the best song by far i thought. I thought itd be a lot of the new album, but they had a good mix of old and new.
^^^They play "Tonight"? I was kind of surprised that they dropped it during the last show in favor for a harder version "Staring at the Sun". Left the show with a totally different feel. Much more angry and political than before.
