Wait...I've got it! What about Bonnaroo Idol? It would be great for the marketability of Roo. And maybe people can call and vote on the lineup and wardrobes and stuff! I'm psyched!
The main point of the thread is the guy is talented, nobody is calling for him to headline or play a tent or even a cafe by himself, I would not go see him solo. For all the openmindedness around here it kills me that people dismiss him because he was on a crappy TV show!!!! He has played with some great musicians and held his own, I heard it with mine own two ears, I would guess anyone that was there would agree. Good god, the guy is talented and he was on American Idol.....whats the big deal?

I am all for openmindedness, icluding the possibility of Taylor Hicks at Bonnaroo. And while I was just having fun with the posts, an American Idol winner at Bonnaroo is a slippery slope my friend. That's all I'm saying....

If Hicks had the goods, he would've made it eventually on his own. He may not have become a household name but, he would warrant legitimate respect from serious music fans. He chose to give-up and cash-in, pure and simple. Obviously you can win success (or at least fame)but, you can't win respect...at least not mine!

So, no matter how good he is, he should have had to scrape to get by a few more years and hoped people "caught on" eventually????? Come on! Seriously? I could care less how I learn of a good musician....I tend to base my respect of a musician on how they play an instrument or sing.
Hey, to each his own, but I am not going to miss out on any good music because a guy took a chance to get his name out their in a big way and did it. Shame on him for "cashing in" after playing small clubs for 10 years. What a sell out.
oatmealschnappz, made it on his own? Could you clarify what exactly you mean? (I would hate to make an erronous assumption based on lack of information) It would be apperciated.

I mean that he could've had success (maybe not as much) without being propped-up by a fanbase that only knows of him because of because of a tv show. He could of eventually recorded and released an album of his own material, not pre-fab pop covers dictated to him by people who only see him as a commodity. That's all i'm saying and i'm sorry if, for some weird reason, you're taking it personally. I mean no offense to anyone who disagrees but, i'm not going to back-down from my opinion. Taylor Hicks may be talented but, I (me, personally) don't respect him.
I got the chance to go to the XMas Jam in Asheville last december, Taylor Hicks TORE UP the stage next to John Popper and Micky Raphael. He is definitely more than just the American Idol pop singer. He would be amazing to see sitting in with some bands.

Well, ewsc, you came to the right place. Oatmealschnappz and I, Mrs. Featherbottom, are co-presidents of the Taylor Hicks fan club! He is huge in my native Blackstool.
Nothing personal, just discussing. I hope I did not come off that way. If I did I apologize. I just like getting addtional input to understand why people think the way they think. But I do agree about the prefab crapola they call music.
By the way, could you forward me some information on joing the fan club.
