According to a recent interview with Kris Myers, UM will not be playing Bonnaroo this year (see text below). If all of the members are "pretty upset" why can't they do it? I was really hoping they would be able to take it to the next level this year and maybe even get an afternoon/pre-headliner spot on the main stage. Do they have obligations with the new album?
'Eclectic' band respects Theatre ANNA KRAKOVSKI Issue date: 2/28/07 Section: Variety PrintEmail Article Tools Page 1 of 1 The Georgia Theatre can't seem like much for a band like Umphrey's McGee, who has performed at festivals like Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and All Good.
However, drummer Kris Myers said that the band has visited the Theatre several times in the past and the members respect it.
UMPHREY'S MCGEE
When: 10 tonight, doors at 9 Where: Georgia Theatre Price: $18 More Information: www.georgiatheatre.com, www.umphreys.com"So many incredible bands have come through the Georgia Theatre. It's always a pleasure for us to play there," he said. "Athens has such a fun college scene. It reminds us of our college years."
Originally formed in 1997 on the Notre Dame campus, Umphrey's McGee has attracted quite a fan base.
The band was deemed by Rolling Stone magazine to "have become odds-on favorites in the next-Phish sweepstakes," and named "rock's undisputed lord of sonic shape-shifting" by the Washington Post.
Umphrey's McGee, composed of Brendan Bayliss, Jake Cinninger, Joel Cummins, Andy Farag, Kris Myers and Ryan Stasik, will be performing on the main stage at the 10,000 Lakes Festival in Minnesota July 18-21, but will not be partaking in Bonnaroo 2007.
"I think all of us are pretty upset that we're not going to be able to play at Bonnaroo this year, especially since The Police and Tool are headlining," Myers said. "I consider The Police to be one of my personal influences."
Myers said that the band's musical inspirations range from Frank Zappa to Led Zeppelin and Radiohead.
"The Bottom Half," the band's eighth album, is coming out April 3.
"I would say it's eclectic ? no, pop-savvy ? I don't know, I guess it's just a good one," Myers said.
Fans can expect to hear a few jams from the new album at tonight's show.
"We usually post the set list online before our shows, but we've decided to be suspenseful for once and make the list when we get there," Myers said.
Myers said he was confident the fans would not be opposed to this change.
"We are very lucky to have such devoted fans who are so into what we do," he said. "It makes our job all the more exciting."
well that sux. but they have been there alot. and they would get a daytime slot this year. so its not that huge of a lose. i dlove to see them again. but the all good show didnt do it for me in the daytime. it was still a great daytime set but its no where near a night time umph show. ill be seeing them alot this year anyhow so ill live. but it does suck. if adrian belew gets added with his new trio then i think um will be there. maybe some superjam action.

It's alright, I think it'd good that we don't consistently get the same bands back every year, like umph and mmj, because then it spoils the element of anticipation. It'll make their next performance at the roo that much more special.

Aww that sucks. I didn't get to see them last year because there were a million people there and I had to stand way far back. The damned discotheque's thumping was too loud, I couldn't even hear UM so I gave up and went back to sleep. I did get to see them kick ass on the Acoustic Planet tour in August, though. That was cool.
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!
Saw them last week down here in Ft L. Keith! You've gone all flashy! What happened?
i just got real bored working. working sux. it killed some time. not enough though.
my sister saw them last week too. she lives in tampa. she said it was a good show. was outformation with them? my sister liked them and i checked out some of the archive.org shows and it sounds really good. with the wsp connection they may be at roo. im hoping so

Sorry if this is a stupid question but what does Adrian Belew have to do with Umphrey's?
Umphrey's and Adrian Belew have been working together lately. Belew is joining Umphrey's for a string of shows next week and they have sent him material to work on, and possibly he sent them material. I think dude meant if Belew's band was at 'Roo then maybe Umphrey's would be added as some sort of collaboration or superjam. Doesn't look like thats going to happen though.
