2) "at war with the mystics" not sure what the fuss is about, this album is awesome.... stop trying to hear "soft bulletin" or "yoshimi" when you listen, this is different lips... they don't stay the same for long
YES!! THANK YOU! I love the guitar licks on this album. My Cosmic Autumn Rebellion, The Wizard Turns On... Pompeii Am Götterdämmerung is a sweet piece of work. I love the big Pink Floyd style drumming. Thump thump thummpity thumptiy thththtthumpity CRASH
Also I just want to make a recommendation to those who have enjoyed the Islands album. If you enjoy the sound they have you should really check out Man Man. They are a bit rougher around the edges but you will probably really enjoy the albums.
I think my Vote still goes to Secret Machines and Belle & Sebastian.

I have gotten in to Man Man, but they don't seem too similar to the Islands from what I've heard. Man Man really reminds me of early Zappa. You just inspired me to download their '06 release. I'm also thinking from the thoughts here that I need to pick up the new Secret Machines (I really liked Nowhere is Now Here, I just haven't gotten around to the new one).
So far The Islands is still tops for me. I would have bet a lot of money that the Paul Simon would be my top album for '06, and the verdict on that one is still out for me, but I certainly don't love it at this point. My first reaction was major dissappointment, followed by some revision and appreciation, followed by just not being inspired to listen to it for a third time yet.

1) only out 3 days now "broken boy soldiers" by the raconteurs tops my list...... after that i will go..... 2) "at war with the mystics" not sure what the fuss is about, this album is awesome.... stop trying to hear "soft bulletin" or "yoshimi" when you listen, this is different lips... they don't stay the same for long 3) "pearl jam".... typical pearl jam, they do not dissapoint too often
need to hear soon, i am prepared to be excited.... "stadium arcadium" paul simon's new album neil young's new album built to spill's new album
and whenever thom yorke's new album comes out that will for sure be my top album of 2006, unless i keep falling for the raconteurs.... this album is awesome
Stadium Aracadium and Neil Young's album are both very good! You will not be disappointed!
I didn't necessarily dislike At War with the Mystics, it just wasn't up to my expectations. All the songs sounded awfully similar (and it wasn't a particularly good sound to begin with). I do really like the Yeah Yeah Yeah song. Like i said before, the lyrics are great, and i really enjoy the theme of the album but the music is just very mediocre in my opinion. But, to each his own! The Lips will always be awesome in my book!

ooooh I haven't heard Mars Volta in awhile. I guess I'm pretty far out of the loop if I didn't know they had a new album out already.
not out until like Aug 22nd, but i am assuming it has been leaked........
QUESTION!......Does anyone else hate how so many albums are leaked so early and it kinda takes the fun away from gettin up on a tuesday morning and goin to your fav. record shop and shoppin the new releases? I guess its cool for the "downloading generation", because they dont know any better, but that is one of my favorite parts of music in general........the anticipation

i dunno why but i think the new lips album sucks. its such a step backward from the last few. imho thats all squarepusher is dropping a new record in oct that may easily climb the 06 album hierarchy for me
Easily became my favorite album of the year on the first listen. Definitely the first album I've heard this year that strikes me as truly great. It's hilarious, fun, smart, political, and you can dance to it.
To quote track 3, it will help you: "laugh, love, f*ck and drink liquor...and help the damn revolution come quicker"
Another quote (just for fun) from the chorus of "Head (of state)", which outlines the last 20 years of U.S.-Iraq history in considerable and witty detail:
"Bush and Hussein together in bed Giving H-E-A-D head, y'all motherf*ckers heard what we said billions made and millions dead"

I'm going to go ahead and say this for right now. When I first bought it, I only listened to it a few times, but I popped it in my cd player the other day and I can't stop listening to it. The Mars Volta's new cd is really good but I'm going to have to give it a few more spins before I can make final judgement.
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.
Gotta concur with Ka Mai on The Coup-"Pick a Bigger Weapon". Picked it up yesterday, upon reading his rave, and he's totally on it. This album does NOT disappoint.
Anyone interested in sampling The Coup touring this album... check etree now. Their show opening for Claypool in Miami was just posted and is flowing into My hard drive as I type !!
so 2/3 of the way through the year, and there are only 4 albums that have separated themselves as the cream of the crop for me: 'Return to Cookie Mountain'- TV on the Radio 'The Eraser'- Thom Yorke 'Breaking Kayfabe'- Cadence Weapon 'Night Ripper'- Girl Talk
A few slow burners that might sway me yet: 'Lloyd, I'm Ready to Be Heartbroken'- Camera Obscura 'So This Is Goodbye'- Junior Boys 'Etiquette'- Casiotone for the Painfully Alone 'Ten Silver Drops'- Secret Machines 'Return to the Sea'- Islands

When the hell is the US release date for this? I can't download stuff right now and all I have is the old version.
In no particular order, a few that tickle my scrotum...
M. Ward Secret Machines Akron/Family Old Crow Medicine Show The Guillemots Neko Case Beirut Be Your Own Pet Josh Ritter The Strokes Frightened Rabbit The Pipettes Jenny Lews & The Watson Twins Grizzly Bear
