Absolutely, I would give just about anything to see him there. I'm thinking he would be perfect for a superjam type show... since he's always playing with guests anyways.

Too many good bands out there, so no, I would rather about 300-400 other acts play before I'd like Santana to play. I just don't like his songs, and while I don't deny his playing is great, I think there are plenty of other ACTUAL latin bands that went further with that sound that I'd rather see than Santana...

Huh? Santana's guitar is instantly recognizable, so what "sound" are you talking about? It's fine if you don't care for his music, but what do you mean by an actual latin band?

That would be a perfect bonnaroo first timer. I saw him with the Trey band in Cali and they rocked the house out. Would love to see him thier, and would be better with some trey.

Well, for starters, Santana is a blues band from San Francisco who started playing latin rhythms to stand out. It's not like other groups weren't doing the same thing in Central and South America at the same time though. As for his sound being his own, I disagree. There are plenty of other albums I could point to where guitarists pretty much got the same sounds in better songs than Santana (Os Mutantes and Funkadelic come immediately to mind).
Ultimately it's a matter of preference. I just don't think Santana is quite as influential as people give him credit for being. Doesn't make him an overrated guitar player. Just maybe the perception of him is overrated. Abraxas is decent enough, but after that, it's hard for me to find an album of his that I particularly enjoy. And that's the bottom line for me.

^^^^^^ It seems you're talking about the band as it was originally and I'm talking about Carlos Santana. I disagree with you about his sound, though. I've never mistaken an Os Mutantes or Funkadelic song with Santana's. Have you ever seen him live?

^^Never seen him live. But I'm thinking about Santana, the man. He was a San Francisco blues guy whose band started playing latin flavored blues jams because ladies like to dance to it, not because he was initially good at it. And even though he was from Mexico, his musical background was more tejano and mariachi which is a far cry from the more African based rhythms of other parts of Latin America.
It's funny. I had a recent debate with a co-worker of mine who really digs Carlos partially because of good memories he has of some show he played in Corpus Christi years ago. I point to the musical output which is rather meager compared to other blues musicians, consisting primarily of a handful of albums produced in a four year period. And he remembers this great concert where he was really high and jamming out to Santana...and Abraxas is a pretty good album.
As for the sound comparisons, I'm specifically thinking of Os Mutantes harder stuff which isn't as popular as their earlier more tropocalia stuff (the particular compilation which features that material is Millennium). And Funkadelic's Hardcore Jollies is chock full of nods to latin influenced blues. I will grant that my immediate reaction to a song I don't recognize that features latin flavored blues riffs is to wonder if it's by Santana, which is to say he does have a signature. But I also don't particularly find that signature to be that interesting to me. Again, it's just me, but I feel like he plays the same friggin solo every time. Whereas, you get a band like Funkadelic or Os Mutantes and latin blues is just part of a much more eclectic sound.
Honestly, if Santana was on the bill, I'd probably plan on staying for 15 minutes, and stay if it was better than that. And if he played anything from his last few albums, I'd be done within five.

Shaman is a terrible album, and the whole let's team Santana up with anybody with a pulse thing is hopefully over! I've seen him live and had a great time, but I understand what you're saying. As always I'd hope for a Bonnaroo set, meaning he'd pull out all the A material, have some surprise guests and blow people away with some amazing guitar solos.

I saw Santana in college, in Tijuana, in a bull ring, with pato banton opening up, lets just say that my memories of the show were very fuzzy, but I have been told that I had a great time.
he puts on a good show. I haven't seen him in close to 10 years now but back then his show was excellent. Black Magic Woman/Oye Como Va live is very intense. I'm a bit surprised he hasn't played once after 6 years now.
santana is flat out boring, his guitar tone is cheesy, sounds liek he plays out of a digi tech multi effects pedal, and he uses the same licks over and over when soloing.

santana superjam with who?
Considering Dave Matthews is always a possibility for Roo and he does do a song with Santana on one of his CDs (can't remember which one off the top of my head... but it's a great song) that could have potential to have Santana, Dave, and maybe someone else. Not too likely, but just a thought I had...

Have you only listened to his radio hits or do you know something that I don't about guitar playing?
