I just found this thread. I've played drums for a long long time. When I did it all the time I was pretty good. I'm getting close to that again, but I don't think I'll ever be what I was at 22. I've decided to learn some guitar because I have a few in the house. I have tons of songs in my head and have taken a liking to singing lately - so what the hell.
I miss being in a band. I was in several for years. I really miss it.
A friend(who beat me in the senior superlatives for most talented) and I are getting together as a two piece. The guy plays guitar, piano, and drums all exceptionally, easily better at all of those instruments than I am at any. I'll be bringing the vocals, bass, and some rythm guitar and piano work.
We've known each other and performed together for many, many years now, but our musical influences are kind of different, so our product should be unique, to say the least. He's also one of my best friends I've ever had, so that helps.
I'm really excited to see what we can come up with.
i took a short break w/ our gig....summers come and we all want to be outside. besides our drummer took a new job workin' basically every night of the week. it hurts not to play sometimes.

Keep rocking that bass out MotherSky. I've been playing bass exclusivly for about 7 years now. Here are some kick azz bass players that have influenced me and my funky style. You can check all of them out on Youtube.
Marcus Miller Jaco Pastorious Victor Wooten Stanley Clarke Larry Graham Louis Johnson Flea Christian McBride
There are tons more. Check those guys out and let me know what you think about their abilities...
I play the keyboard/synthesizer and song write/produce... also sing, but I'm not a good lead vocalist. I've been doing all this for about 11 years now, and have built a decent home studio.
I just recently joined a heavy rock/alternative garage-band as their keyboard player.
^^^I like Victor Wooten's song "Bass Tribute" in which he name-checks most of those cats.
^^ Victor's Bass Tribute is awesome. I love how you can here like 3-5 seconds of music and instantly know who it is supposed to be a tribute to. Victor is a badazz but my favorite is Marcus. He has played on over 400+ different albums. You know your sick when your only 19 and your producing/writing for Luther Vandros and Miles Davis.
Hey Silence04, you ever come over to the East side of Florida? If so, maybe a jam session is in order. I would like to hear your heavy rock keyboard grooves and then throw some sticky icky funk on top ;D

As a drummer I can honestly say that people who devote themselves to the bass are under appreciated. Playing with a true bassist adds so much more to the music than playing with a guitarist who just plays bass because there is a better guitarist in the band. As similar as the two are, there is a very different approach to creating a bass line than just "playing" bass. True Bassists move drummers and thats the whole rhythm section running of full cylinders. Bass is a magical instrument.
I've been playing the geetar for about 7 years now, started out with Redemption Song, I believe. About 2 or 3 years ago I started really fiddling with my own stuff, trying my best to get past shaky vocals. Stuff's beginning to come together though. Anyway, if anyone is interested, here's my Myspace:
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
Some of my musician friends have moved back into town, so we're starting to work at stuff more consistently. We're mostly recording and seeing where and how we sound best, to get an idea of what we should be as a live band.
