I have absolutely no respect for RS these days. They are a complete shell of their past glory. Still, it's nice to be appreciated by any part of the media.

Meh -- most things that hang around as long as Rolling Stone are bound to fade. I wouldn't begin to think of defending all their moves and I'm the first to admit that many of their cover subjects can be, at best, suspect. All that said, I still stand by my "lifetime subscription" from a few years back. There are generally enough musical tidbits in each issue to keep me contented over a few bathroom trips and their political/social pieces are usually top notch.
Rolling Stone has been the drizzling diarrhea shits for as long as I can consciously remember... apparently, by legend, it was once this amazing piece of pop publication.
I won't lie, though... if there is an article or cover story that interests me, I'll pick up an issue here and there.
Spin hasn't done it for me since I read it in the late 90's, and quickly realized how horrid it, too, was.
AP, Metal Edge, Blender, etc. need not be mentioned.
Sad but true, though I still get RS and Relix. While a good bit of RS is ads and pop fluff there's usually a decent article or two. Plus somebody's kid is always peddling magazines for school and it's cheap. Relix caters more to my tastes in music and the free sampler CD in every issue has been a great way to learn about bands I wasn't familiar with.

Actually, I'd say Blender is the best mainstream music magazine out there. Don't judge it by it's covers. Unless you're a big fan of scantily clad musicians, but I don't why anyone would be.
A. They're a sponsor as previously mentioned B. The featured artists all have new material out or coming out soon and are on tour.
Not so phenomenal if you ask me.
Wait you're telling me that people appear in magazines when they want to promote new work of theirs? News to me! What school did you get your PR major from? Did you double major in Grammar Nazi?

^^Smite all you want. I was merely pointing out that what you brought up as some sort of phenomenal connection between the Bonnaroo lineup and Rolling Stone covers is actually just something obvious and not worth mentioning.

It's hard to find good music magazines, nowadays.
Paste has thoughtful, intelligent, and well-written articles. Occasionally I'll pick up RS. The Led Zeppelin issue wasn't bad, but not for the Zep article, as they spit back the exact same stuff that we all already know, but for the article "How We Lost The War On Drugs". Very good historical and opinionated essay. Though, I wish RS would stick to music as the VAST majority of their political commentary is HORRID!

i get paste, rs, and relix and enjoy all 3 for the different magazines they are. while rs does have some crap articles, a lot of there things are pretty insightful. and then of course paste and relix for music thats a little more to my taste

or just being a dickbag. call it what you want.
You're right. I forgot this was the everyone has to agree and reinforce each others' opinions boards.

Not a Matt Taibbi fan, eh?
Not particularly... I guess sometimes I think that a music magazine should stick to music, though I guess RS has always been a bit of an "all things" pop culture kind of magazine... I don't know, I guess I'm just not partial to their political commentary
