kanye is not a great rapper, im sorry thats just ridiculous. his lyrics are below average with scattered moments of mediocre/decent. he can put together some nice production work, but his mic skills are pretty sketchy. sorry, but this guy is puff daddy 2.0 with out nearly as much success as a producer/label head. to even begin to compare his lyrics with a very good (not stellar) rapper like nas is preposterous. you might like his songs overall, but lyrically the man doesn't stand up among even "good" rappers.
"great" just means u need to listen to more hip hop....
Watchin' a stretch of road, miles of light explode. Driftin' off a thing I'd never done before. Watchin' a crowd roll in. Out go the lights it begins. A feelin' in my bones I've never felt before...
I still don't see why it's that interesting, though. My point wasn't that people should leave him alone because maybe he's a nice guy, my point was that it shouldn't come as that much of a surprise. Of course he's a moron. Why is it so interesting to talk about a man's failures at life? Isn't there something positive about some musician that we could talk about instead?
I'm not necessarily surprised at this so much. I'm not too sure that anyone here is actually shocked that kanye would flip out over a B+ review. Sadly, the result of these actions is not kanye's failure but rather his success.... and that's why we talk about it
^^ I completely get you on this. I think I just read it differently than you. When he said "doing Dark Side of the Moon," I took it to mean performing the album (which, you've got to admit, would be difficult for just one person). And, correct me if I'm wrong, you're reading it more as writing/creating. And who knows, we, unfortunately weren't the ones interviewing them, so we have no way to clarify.
This is true, it did seem like they were referring to Waters performing the album. However, Gilmour has done the same. Both of them have backing bands behind them when they play Floyd songs, so it isn't like it's just them doing it by themselves. To me, it just came off as, "Roger Waters sucks, David Gilmour rules, and Ringo Starr is washed up.", which seems insultive to me, considering. But that's just me.

Well, mate, that's what you call an opinion.
I like Kanye's flow, I like his beats, and I like his lyrics. Did I say he was the end all rapper? No. Did I compare him to Nas? No. I said he was one of my favorites, right up there with Nas and Jay Z on my list of favorites. Why is he one of my favorites? Because I enjoy his music. I said nothing about lyrically comparing him to Nas, or any other rapper for that matter.
And as far as telling me to listen to more hip hop? ... HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA. Good one, mate. Good one. I'll get right on that.
^^Out of curiosity---and because I like to expand my horizons--who do you consider a "great" rapper?
i think its impossible to compare all rappers, kinda an oranges and apples thing. i really enjoy old school stuff more than current, so from that crowd i would say: tupac and biggie (obvious, i know, but still gotta be said) krs one rakim chuck d the gravediggaz (a group, but they all count) slick rick as far as "today" goes, i would recommend sage francis the hieroglyphics (another group) talib kwelli & mos def nas
im kinda stingy when it comes to "great" though not all of the above would apply to "great"

its just funny that all you name as your favorites are heavy mtv artists. if u really listen to a lot of hip hop and those are the three you favor, there is no reason for us to have a discussion. apples and oranges.

Your opinion is offically of no consequence whatsoever, after that statement.
Since when did it matter if a rapper was on MTV or not? Talent is talent, what I like is what I like. Who cares how famous a rapper/group/band/anything is? Who cares what television channel they're on? And besides, Tupac? Biggie? Chuck D? Hell, even Mos Def? All pretty heavy on MTV, mate.
As for other favorites, here you go. I really need to start listening to more rap: Wu Tang Clan MF Doom cLOUDDEAD El-P Qadir Aesop Rock Cannibal Ox Beasties Gang Starr Outkast De La Soul Del the Funkee Homosapien Blackalicious Lil Wayne Pharoahe Monch RJD2 Ghostface Killah Sage Francis Saul Williams Common
I could go on all day. Your opinion is your opinion, but don't judge me or tell me what I need to do without even knowing me.

^^^hahaha. Karma.
It's subjective. hal41605 says that Sage Francis is great. I think he's awful x a million, absolutly horrible, and I think Kanye is great. A lot of Kanye's songs do talk about the same old recycled cars/I'm rich/I'm awesome stuff with no substance. He even said "Always said if I rapped I'd say something significant, now I'm talking 'bout money, ho's, and rims again." But he talks about a lot of real issues and has some great word play. I love the word play. What in particular do you not like? I can show you in particular what I do like and we can compare.

Exactly what I've been trying to say. It's all subjective and no one should be judged for what they like.
Also, Jacko?
But it's okay. I'll toss you some karma anyway for making me giggle. =P

To start his first album: -Song: We Don't Care "If this is your first time hearin' this You are about to experience something so cold, man We never had nothin' handed Took nothin' for granted Took nothin' from no man Man I'm my own man But as a shorty I looked up to the dope man Only adult man I knew that wasn't broke, man"
"The second verse is for my dawgs workin 9 to 5 That still hustle 'cause a nigga can't shine off $6.55 And everybody selling makeup, Jacob's And bootlegged tapes just to get they cake up We put shit on layaway, then come back We claim other people kids on our income tax We take that money, cop work, then push packs to get paid And we don't care what people say Momma say she wanna move south Scratchin' lottery tickets, eyes on a new house 'Round the same time, Doe ran up in dude house"
All Falls Down: "I say f the police, thats how I treat em We buy our way out of jail, but we can't buy freedom We'll buy a lot of clothes when we don't really need em Things we buy to cover up what's inside Cause they make us hate ourself and love they wealth That's why shortys hollering "where the ballas' at?" Drug dealer buy Jordans, crackhead buy crack And a white man get paid off of all of that But I ain't even gon act holier than thou Cause f it, I went to Jacob with 25 thou Before I had a house and I'd do it again Cause I wanna be on 106 and Park pushing a Benz I wanna act ballerific like it's all terrific I got a couple past due bills, I won't get specific I got a problem with spending before I get it We all self conscious I'm just the first to admit it"
Last Call: "I went to the malls and I balled too hard 'Oh my god, is that a black card?' I turned around and replied, why yes but I prefer the term African American Express"
This Way: "I don't know what's better, gettin laid or gettin paid I just know when I'm gettin one, the other's gettin away"
These are just some of the lines that I like, personally.
Ok, now compare the Kanye lyrics to some Saul Williams lyrics:
List of Demands:
I wrote a song for you today While I was sittin' in my room, I jumped up on my bed today and played it on the broom I didn't think that it would be a song that you would hear, But when I played it in my head I made you reappear I wrote a video clip, And I acted out each part, And then I took your picture out and taped it to my heart I taped it to my heart, yeah girl I taped it to my heart, And if you run away from me you'll tear my life apart

Im cracking up at this thread. I'm guessing most the people on here bashing Kanye are probably more into the jam scene and techno and others. If someone posted on here that Grateful Dead shows were no good, or Levon Helms show wasn't "A+" or that Phil Lesh's shows suck, a lot of you would post some very negative things, seen it on here a ton of times and I'm guilty myself. So why shouldn't Kanye get upset and post on a website that he took offense? Just don't say he should chill when people on here get so upset easily. Now on here people are trying to post their favorite rappers to be cooler than the other guy, "Your rappers are too Mtv" "I listen to so and so, so that makes me cooler than you" Whats the difference in people on here getting upset at what someone writes about them and Kanye getting upset at what someone writes about him?

Nice. Very true. Karma for that.
This is something that I think about a lot. Most of us are tolerant, but only about the things we like. Not about musicians played on the radio, not about someone who thinks doing dru gs is sinful and speaks out against it, etc. You can't yell at someone who likes John Mayer or who speaks out about their beliefs and then in the same breath say be tolerant. I think finding a balance and being consistent is something we all struggle with.

because inforoo hates black people
Lol. I'll never forget the look on Myers' face. Classic.
Whats the difference in people on here getting upset at what someone writes about them and Kanye getting upset at what someone writes about him?
The difference is, nobody here when getting upset tells a person that they are no longer welcome on inforoo, nor do they wish death upon that person.
IF kanye had kept his blog at "Man you don't know sh!t about rap or me and that's why you can't understand great art when you see it! Take your B+ and shove it!" it would not have nearly created such an entertaining thread on here I don't think
But i agree... this comparison of rappers is quite pointless, yet utterly entertaining ;D

Just for the record, I wasn't posting my favorite rappers to be cooler than the other guy. I was defending myself against someone saying I know nothing about hip hop because my three favorite rappers happen to be played on MTV. Just sayin'.
Sampling is an a musical technique that most every rapper uses, as well as a lot of techno artists and, occasionally, rock artists. If that makes Kanye a poopy musician, then I'm going to stop sampling beats in my techno tracks just in case someone thinks I suck for it.
It doesn't make him a poopy musician, it makes him not a musician.

Blues musicians sample more than anyone. I work in a cajun restaurant and we have the radio set to a blues station all day, I hear the same song with different lyrics 10 times a day. I still love my blues though. I don't think we are going to say Jack Zep wasn't good because they used other peoples guitar riffs, correct me if I'm wrong but the intro to Stairway is from another musician. Every genre samples, and we still call them musicians.

i just think its ridiculous that kanye got all worked up over a B+. its not a C or a D. i get that he is trying to become the number 1 artist of all time, but he sure is being a little bitch. to throw a fit like this is really immature and just reinforces in my head and many others' how much of a baby he is. oh well. i'm not really a fan, but i still think this is just really lame and just shows how insecure this guy is. a B+ is an 89 at my school.
