Entertainment Weekly magazine gave Kanye West's new "Glow-in-the-Dark" tour show a B+. Apparently, that was just a huge insult, and Kanye retaliated in his blog. Now, I know the critic Chris Willman, he's actually a good friend of my mom. Nice guy, great music fan, thoughtful writer and critic. Perhaps that's why this strikes me as particularly unnecessary, but, well......
"FUCK ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY I'M SICK OF YALL SHIT!!! 05.02.2008
"Yo, anybody that's not a fan; don't come to my show. For what?! To try to throw yall to cents in? Yall rated my album shitty and now yall come to the show and give it a B+. What's a B+ mean? I'm an extremist. It's either pass or fail! A+ or F-! You know what, fuck you and the whole fucking staff!!! I know I shouldn't dignify this with a comment, but the reviewer threw a jab at all the artists. I just wanna know when was the last time you enjoyed yourself. If you can't have fun and loose yourself at this tour it's a good chance you're a very miserable person. I actually feel sorry for you guys. Your job forces you to not have fun anymore. Grab a drink, holla at some nice girls, and party bitch!!! You don't know shit about passion and art. You'll never gain credibility at this rate. You're fucking trash! I make art. You can't rate this. I'm a real person. I'm not a pop star. I don't care about anything but making great art. Never come 2 one of my shows ever again, you're not invited and if you see me... BOW!!! This is not pop, it's pop art! Chris Willman, kill yourself!"

He's passionate about his music. . . I get it. He's being human. Granted, it's understood that celebrities are not supposed to have human traits, he has a right to be upset. Obviously he's put a lot of work into this tour and he got a bad grade on it. If he sent this to the reviewer, that would be a different story, but he posted his response in a blog.
Passionate people tend to play passionate shows. I'm down.
Watchin' a stretch of road, miles of light explode. Driftin' off a thing I'd never done before. Watchin' a crowd roll in. Out go the lights it begins. A feelin' in my bones I've never felt before...

^^^Good points, but remember that B+ is not at all a bad grade. In fact, read the review and you'll see that while it is mixed, the majority is very favorable. He likes Kanye, and overall liked the show.

hmm...I don't care much for this: "Yo, anybody that's not a fan; don't come to my show." I have to think that a VERY large number of people going to Bonnaroo would not consider themselves fans of his but may still go to his show. I think taking that statement out of context like that may leave it with a different meaning than what he intended, but I don't really like the way it sounds. Would you really rather we all go see someone else and leave you performing for a largely empty field? If you're going to play a festival where you're not the usual type of act, you'd think you'd really be hoping people decided to branch out and come see your show even if they don't count themselves as one of your fans.
what is the point of this thread? character defamation? it just seems entirely pointless to me, and people are STILL acting like little kids because Bonnaroo booked an act they don't like

Once again, I have no idea where you are coming from. I haven't once made any personal comments about Kanye or his music, mainly because it is irrelevant to the topic but also because I am completely indifferent to him. I'm not a fan, but I don't dislike his music either. Likewise I don't care that he's at Bonnaroo either way. It's fine by me. Again, this is all irrelevant to the topic, but since you pried, those are the facts.

Maybe if Kanye spent more time working on his "art" and less time telling the world what a Great Artist he is, he wouldn't have to spend so much time and effort trying to convince the world he's a Great Artist.

this is one of those things that I was talking about in the "negativity" thread.
So something is posted thats not positive about someone? We dont live in a completely positive world. Things are written that arent always positive or PRO and artist or PRO Bonnaroo. Thats the glory of things. The yin and the yang. It's stupid to get angry at someone for posting an article thats related to Bonnaroo. Its stupid to get angry at anything posted really, aside from crazy things like Child porn.
Not everything posted about an artist you like will be positive. Deal with it.
and I AM a Kanye West fan, by the way, so I'm not being bias with this. I just hate the idea that people can only say positive things around here. Censorship sucks. Especially on a board dedicated to a Festival that advocates so much freedom.
I'm NOT a Kanye West fan. It just seems like this involves the pointless "Band X sucks!" argument as opposed to "Band X sucks because of..." argument.
(and no. I don't consider an artist's personality to be directly relevant to their music in most cases. Robert Fripp and Billy Corgan are great examples of this.)

Wait, I'm confused...I don't see anyone saying Kanye West sucks at all, with or without a reason. It's a discussion of something that happened recently involving a musician who's playing at Bonnaroo. Some people (including me) were less than thrilled with the things he said, but I don't think anyone implied that his personality somehow impacts his musical ability.
