The guys climbing the tree at the Jack Johnson show was a little scary, but also funny.
Last year during Ben Folds, it was very, very hot and this chick next to us just fell over and had a seizure. We all reached down to help her and this other girl came over who seemed to know what she was doing. We propped her head up, someone went for help and we poured some water on her face while she was convulsing. All the sudden it stopped and she looked up totally dazed and said "what happened." Then she saw the looks on everyones faces and she started crying, I think she was more frightened than anything. Her friends got her up and they walked off to the side, hopefully to a medical tent to check her out. Not sure if it was from the heat, or some substances, most likely a mix of the two.

last year I was sitting at camp with my friends when out of nowhere about 4-5 cops on horseback came charging thru the camping only section after some hippy dude. They surrounded him and tackled him and roughed him up, holding him by the neck and searching his pockets. he had gotten rid of the stuff he had and so in the end they let him go, but not before freaking him & anyone in the vicinity out. I tried to calm the guy down but he was understandably upset and crying. major bummer

I have worked at Roo in the past and the most common thing i have seen is people climning things that they shouldnt be climbing and falling off. there have been some pretty damn serious injuries. It just goes to show you that most of the things we have talked in this thread could have been avoided by OURSELVES!
I hate seeing people freaking out, especially in that quiet "i want to curl up and die on the ground" sort of way, because they obviously just want the trip to be over. It's hard to try and help these people too because in that state of mind it's pretty scary when anyone is talking to you let alone a stranger.
Last year i saw some dude kick a horse, one of the mounties' horses. It was during PL&F near one of the gates. The horse reared up in the air and threw off the policewoman, then like five cops beat the guy and another five went after the horse.
Ok, I'll give mine. The Dios Malos show on Thursday night last year. Naked guy climbed the scaffolding on the stage all the way up to the top in one of the tents and tried to monkey bar across the stage. Went about 2 bars, and fell a good 25 feet to the ground.
They stretched him off, and I think he ended up breaking at least one of his legs if not both.

Wow I cant believe I haven't heard about that before. Crazy stuff
on sunday morning in '05 the sweetest (very) old golden retriever-mix, with a really bad limp, wandered over to our camp site and collapsed. he was panting ridiculously so we gave him lots of water and eventually some food. i searched all around but couldn't find anyone who knew where the dog belonged, other than a few people saying they saw it wandering around all morning. the people at the pod said they could do nothing about it (once dumbasses get their dogs in to roo, there is nothing done to enforce the no-dog rule). i've volunteered/worked at animal shelters since I was a kid so i was beyond pissed, not only about this poor dog, but all the ones i saw at roo. especially the neglected ones with useless drugged out wooks, who were clearly hot, thirsty and miserable.
luckily i've never witnessed anything like the bad stuff people mentioned on here, but seeing the dogs is definitely the worst for me, it makes me so sick... especially since they do nothing to bring it on themselves.
It wasn't necessarily an awful sight, but it was pretty funny:
Last year was my first 'Roo. After Petty's show on Friday night, my friends and I headed away from the main stage and sat down near Which Stage to rest and enjoy a smoke. We're sitting probably 10 feet from one of the many "bobbleheads" they had on display near Which last year. Out of nowhere, we hear a girl scream "STOP!" and look over to see some drunken guy shaking the shit out of one of the bobbleheads trying to knock it over. Another guy joined in as they tried as hard as they could to take it down.
Before they could do any real damage, security (or whoever) came up and told them not to do it and escorted them away. I found it hilarious (not the idea of destruction, of course) because the word "no" is something you shouldn't hear at Bonnaroo, and you've got to REALLY mess up in order to get someone to yell "no!" at you.
There also was a rowdy local who managed to get behind us during Radiohead's show on Saturday and was threatening to slap people in the face, both men and women. Luckily he only hung around for two or three minutes.
Some misguided young man wandered up to us on shakedown in 05 and said he new where to get some NO2 balloons we declined as it wasn't really our bag, but he decided he liked us and wanted us to watch him enjoy his baloon so he wandered back up after like five minutes inhaled all the gas out of the balloon and then said in a very high voice" F*ckers sold me helium". Not that this was a bad thing but I found it quite hilarious
There was a guy wearing nothing but a tshirt at a show in 04 (sketchy on which show or day, I know it was raining but when wasn't it in 04). He got into an argument with a couple security guys at This Tent and walked out on his own. He then collapsed. They came over to him and he didn't respond. They then called the medics on their walkie talkies and proceeded to cover him from head to toe in trash bags. Not sure if the man was breathing or not when we walked away, but they looked pretty damn worried. It was scary either way.
I think that was the Jem show. I remember them covering that kid with plastic. He had long dark hair and looked almost naked but I was pretty far back.

It was my first Roo last year and I didn't see anything bad either
I was glad to see a couple of positive posts on this thread, as doubtless there will eventually be a couple of newbies read this and we don't want to give them the wrong idea. It should be noted that it took 5 years to compile these stories. Last year was my first year also, and the worst thing I saw was one almost fist fight on Shakedown near that shower trailer that ended up with a handshake. I didn't see anyone having a bad trip or even one rude person around me at the stages.
It is good to let people know that these bad incidents do not happen often at roo. Ive never seen anything bad either. There is always bad with good....thankfully Roo has way more good than bad

I've got two stories, both disturbing but different....
2.) (Like i've previously posted) This guy that was camped near us last year spent most of saturday morning/afternoon PRETENDING to have a bad trip. He paced back and forth, looking pointedly around for his audience, yelling about how "It wasnt his fault". He was throwing clothes, shoes and even his wallet at the surrounding people, tents and cars. Not only did he repeatedly "fall" into his own tent, but he kept threatening to get in his car and "drive through all these m*therf*cking tents"! I've been around several (if not many) people "having a rough time" (been there myself, in fact), but this guy was clearly acting. He was obviously just some clueless kid who thought that this kind of sh*t was how Bonnaroo worked. I'd rather spend every waking moment around some poor guy/girl who was genuinely "freaking", than some wanna-be trust-funder trying to "fit in" in the saddest, most oblivious way imaginable! If anyone would've bought into his pathetic juvenile bulsh*t even for a minute, it very possibly could've taken much needed time and attention away from someone that actually needed it. It made me sick! The next day, after everyone made it clear how they felt about his make-shift tantrum, he seemed so very embarassed that he wouldn't speak to or even look anyone in the eye. Hopefully his shame will keep him away from Manchester this year!
If this person is on inforoo (which he doesn't deserve to be) he can eat me. what a moron

I definately agree with fordgoose15's comment. It did take five 'Roos to fill this thread. The people who have bad stories in here are of a very small minority. My only request is that all the newbies at the festival next year who are a part of inforoo don't do anything to end up in that group. I love Bonnaroo, and I just want everyone who attends to have as great a time as I do.

I have been going to the 'roo since '03 and have seen nothing more than people puking or having heat exhaustion. the 'roo can be very liberating but there still are consequnces to your choices so be safe and trust what your body is saying. Take breaks it's o.k. to chill out, drink water and I would suggest not trying any party favors u don'y have experience with and all should be good. If u have to puke make sure u hit the ground and not the back of my shoes
i recommend that you try new experiences at roo. there is no more safe or friendly environment to try something new that you might not do at home.... just be safe.

I agree bonnaroo is a good place to try new things. But i also think theres no good place to try things if you arent educated on it. As long as you know how to take care of yourself you should be good, and bonnaroo can be a very fun place to try new stuff.

hmm.. my friend and i were making our way out of centeroo on Saturday at about 4 30 or 5 and we saw some guy on a stretcher with a bunch of medics around him. The only thing we heard the guy say as we walked by was "Upside dowwn". Seemed kind of funny actually. he seemed alright.
I will say, I posted in this thread, but I have been four times and that was among the VERY few negative things I've witnessed. The thing that I think is important to take away from this is that you should be careful and pace yourself and know your limits so you don't end up a story in this thread. Bonnaroo is a wonderful place and these stories are few and far between, just be responsible and you'll have a great time.
Also, it may have been the Jem show. A buddy of mine did go check that out and we were meeting him by the sign for whichever tent it was in after the show we were at was done.

I actually think the first time i posted my story the guy came out on the board. I cant really remember though, i think he just said it was him, id be pretty interested as to what happened though.

Hundreds of thousands of people have descended on Manchester over the years, the vast majority have no knowledge whatsoever of anything negative EVER happening! When you read a thread like this, it can be easy to start believing that Bonnaroo is just jammed full of back-to-back horror stories. As most of us know, the "bad" stories are always OVERWHELMINGLY overshadowed by all of the positive stories, anticdotes and experiences. This thread is just a way of conveying precautionary observations and advice from experienced fans who have been witness to the full-spectrum of the, both good and bad, things that can occur whenever you gather nearly 100,000 people anywhere...for any reason. Even though you may read some stuff here that may seem disturbing, you need to keep in mind that these stories are few and far-between, That's what makes this thread so interesting in the first place. No one here is trying to scare the "newbies" in any way. We are just sharing some very rare "war stories" in an attempt to keep everyone grounded and aware! Bonnaroo is the most beautiful place that i've ever been, but sometimes it even storms in paradise. We all just want you to be prepared for the best time of your life!
the important thing to note about all of these stories is that they did it to themselves. nothing was roos fault. just people being stupid climbing on things or overdoing it with the partying. if you use common sense you dont have to worry about any of these things happening to you.

Exactly! Roo is what you make it! Hopefully this thread will express how amazing it can be...or how horrible you can make it! It's usually pretty much up to you. You can be responsible and have a story that you'll tell people for years....Or you can go foolishly overboard and (also) have a (very different) story you'll tell people for years. It's ultimately up to you.
