Haha this thread reminded me of our Waffle House tradition. We stop at one every year in TN on our way home from the roo and order half the menu.
Last year was by far our best trip though- the waitresses argued ("what in the HELL are ya puttin them hash browns on the skillet fer now? They'll be BURNT TO SHIT by the time the rest of their orders on"), tried to communicate the orders in a code that neither of them understood (1 brown cow, one cheese browns...HUH? what's that?), and then they proceeded to HOSE (literally) down the floor in the kitchen while we were sitting right there watching. Priceless.

I have never been to a Waffle House (LI, NY) but I have been to Cracker Barrel and love it! I only ever get the chicken fingers w/ honey mustard and mac n cheese, and mashed potatoes every time I go though lol. We have to drive over an hour to get up there but it's been done plenty of times and totally worth it. The rocking chairs are def the best part :-D
Last year we decided to stop at WaHo before hopping in line, and I swear to God food has never tasted better in my life. Then again, they could have topped my hash browns with dog crap and I'd probably have loved it after 18 hours of Red Bull and Doritos.

Waffle House is perfect for an after Roo experience for the most of us. However I voted Cracker Barrel because I can't leave their Biscuits and gravy alone! Best there is hands down.

you need to come by the house and let me make you some biscuits and gravy - you'll never want Cracker Barrell again - LOL
Dont know if this means anything to you but cracker has a history of open policy of not hiring gay and lesbian employees and firing those who come out. They stated that it was against their values. The did recently change there policy after about 15 years of protest by gay and lesbian groups and supporters but the stores still operate by in on a store to store base.

i gotta go with cracker barrel for my pre and post bonnaroo meal. theres a waffle house right next to one the bars i always go to so i get my fill of pecan waffles. there aren't too many cracker barrels in phoenix....none of which are open at 2am.
does tennessee have white castle? we don't have those in arizona.
^^ Tennessee does have some White Castles, but I think we have more Krystals than WC. (same idea, but better-- in my opinion!)
Oh, man. Krystal's. I'd forgotten all about that! I grew up on those in Nashville. We don't have Krystal's or White Castle's in my area of Virginia. I have to make do with frozen White Castle's. In fact, while shopping last night I ran into a friend whose only purchase was two boxes of frozen White Castle's. I complimented him on his taste!

i dont doubt they have a history of descrimination but when i worked there about 8 years ago just about every male server was openly gay and there was alot of them. they were treated just the same as everyone else.
Cracker Barrel is a terrible place for a vegetarian, there's meat in all sorts of places that you wouldn't expect it and it's all pre-made so they can't leave it out.
From their website:
"We want to make sure you know that some of our offerings, like Turnip Greens, Green Beans, Corn Muffins, Hashbrown Casserole and Pinto Beans, are made the old-fashioned way using meat seasonings and are not strictly vegetarian. Please ask your server about any particular dish if you have any questions."
A good breakfast spot is veggie junk food heaven (not so good for vegans though...).
White Castle however has the best fries on this or any other populated planet.

Well, I mean, you gotta clean the floor one way or another...
It's always funny to me how little people who don't work in restaurants know about restaurants...I'm not implying that you don't know diggity-doody about restaurants - you may just have never seen the hose method - but a lot of people are clueless...for instance:
My best friend bartends/serves at an Olive Garden in Jacksonville, and he'll have customers who will insist that he brings out a glass of still-boiling water to dip their silverware into, in order to sterilize it...
Well, they ordered the salad. You know how salad gets put in bowls in restaurants? By way of the cook's bare hands. These people are freaking out about germs on their silverware (the dishwashers in these places are high-temp and laced with disinfectant) and yet their salads are being handled by germy hands...seriously, man, how often do you think we cooks wash our hands?
