ediger, I'd like to publicly apoligize for my anal retention. Looking back I could see your sarcasm, but at the time I only saw red. I work in place where I deal with all kinds of people traveling and it never fails that once a week I'll get a hillbilly comment. I'm sending karma to you as a way to say, "sorry dude". Ya'll do have some mighty fine beer up there. I like me some Labatte Blue on tap. Yes, Regina is a city and after I looked it up I felt like a horse's arse.

On the subject of the " Bible Belt" as that part of the south is called, has anyone seen the GIANT white crosses on route 81 ? I saw a doc about them on TV and they were put up by a multi millionaire, and each of those crosses cost almost a million bux !!!!

This'll also be my first opportunity to really check out the south. I've been to northern Virginia and southern Florida, and I took a Greyhound bus through Missouri/Arkansas/Oklahoma/Texas five months ago, but that doesn't really count. Anyway, I've got Wednesday evening to spend in Nashville, and I've booked a motel near the airport. I was wondering if any locals could give me some restaurant recommendations, or some fun places to check out in the city. I'm open to all types of food, but I'd especially like to try some good southern food.
And of course, Waffle House for breakfast is a must on my agenda.

I've watched Cops enough to know there are plenty of the stereotypical southern hick types all over the country....it ain't a just a southern thing. I think most folks would be surprised at the south in general as what you see on tv or read about usually just isn't the real story......or it at least doesn't apply to the south in general....like I said, there's idiots everywhere
My fiance's friend from california was visiting us here in Nashville and we were watching an episode of COPS (for some reason). It was kind of one of those awkward moments where you don't know if you should change the channel for fear that they might actually be enjoying the channel you're watching. And they're probably sitting there thinking "why the f&ck are we watching Cops."
But anyways, this episode was extra special. It was an episode that took place in a trailer park (go figure) and featured a drunken, toothless, wife-beating redneck (go figure).
So we were watching it and i immediately recognized where they were at, which was LaVergne, TN about 15 minutes from Nashville. Without knowing the california girl says "where the hell are these people from?" It was a question that i saw coming from a mile away but i just busted out laughing. But i told her where they were from and that i was just glad that it wasn't one of my cousins or something on the show.
Maybe you had to be there. That $hit was funny though.

That NBF really is the ugliest piece of bad statuary I've ever seen. It's funny to a lot of us, but I do wonder every once in a while what visitors must think of us.
And for the record, I'm Southern, white, and obese, but I'm not Protestant, I do not love Dale, Jr. (I don't know the man), and I like people who are gay, black, other, or all of those. If a fellow Southerner gives you crap because you're of one of those, send them over to me and my folks. We'll fix 'em.
That actually reminds me of this date I went on about a year ago. I opened the door for my date as we were going into the movie theater, and she turned to me and started ranting about how I thought she was incapable of opening a door by herself. Geez, soooorrrrry for trying to be nice!

Haha I didnt know those giant crosses were uncommon in places. Then I look at that site's statistics and it turns out my little state has more of them than any other.
with all of our shortcoming, we still dont ever say "i seen" anything.
from what I can tell, "I seen" is just a typically thing to hear come out of a dumb persons mouth, whether they are from the deep south, Canada, England or wherever

Forrest has gotten a bad wrap over the years. I suggest more reading into him. He was the first invited speaker of the Pole Bearers (NAACP forerunner organization of post-Civil War period) after all. Also I doubt he was really the leader of the Klan even though he ordered them to disband in 1867. Sorry I'm a history dork.
When the virtually nonexistent KKK does show up in town - as a sign of protesting their public rallies, the owner of the Forrest statue takes down the flags being flown around it.
My personal favorite idiotic roadside monument is on I-65 as you enter Nashville from Franklin. There in all it's disgusting glory is a large obscene statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest, surrounded by flags.
