We have all noticed the differences that have been made to the festival. From the great ideas like family camping and a ferris wheel, to the confusing ones (shakedown street of mystery) but the one thing that they changed and actually upset me was the Arcade-disco. My friends and i had a blast going in there if the late-night wasn't doing it for us and try and get the best scores on or favorite classics while trying to bust out dance moves. It was funny as hell and a lot of fun and felt like an only at roo experience. Xbox360?? Bah... i can stay home for that. Marble Madness while trying to do the robot. thats something special. Its all really moot anyway since i spent about 1% of my previous years there but still it was a very unique thing that i felt that they shouldn't have gotten rid of. Anybody else agree?
I agree. I actually never made it in there but always meant to. So though it will have no real effect on me, the idea of replacing classic arcade games with Xbox seems pretty lame.
I'm sure they got $$$ from Xbox to do this though.

Everytime I walked by I imagined going in ... but then went somewhere else intending to come back... 80's video games are MUCH cooler, imo, than ANYTHING xbox... as stated before, its a money thing... just glad I live down the block from Barcade and can play Tapper or Arkanoid, or Time Pilot, or PunchOut or, or, or... anytime I want!
I had fun in there last year - never played the playsations or whatever they had - just danced - are they not doing the disco part this year?
No its still going to be there. They just announced the DJs. It was just in years past it was a literal arcade disco. Like 40 classic arcade games with awesome DJs. Now its just another place to dance it used to be something unique and special. Like the footclan hangout in the ninja turtles movie. Imagine if the silent disco was done with earbud headphones this year or if the beer tent started doing nothing but Bud or no pictures on the ferris wheel. I'm not saying people arent going in there and having fun. Its just that it was something unique thats now as you have said, just a place to dance.
Loved the dancing there every year, but I have to agree about the original Arcade Tent aspects with the old 80's cabinets and more.... There were some XBOX's thrown in, but there were still around 30+ old decks and cabinets (including the version 1 Star Wars sit-down with the headphone jack!). I'm a huge vintage game fan, and when I discovered this place during my first Roo (05) I fell to my knees and nearly wept upon entering...
Now I only go in at night to party.
IN FACT... I'm in the official photo Roo used this year on the new website... see the pirate hat in the bottom right:
I dont think i understand what exactly went on in this tent you speak of. You dance while playing retro videogames? does everyone have a controller? how many screens? btw you can play most every classic 80's/90's videogame on x-box live arcade.
i have to agree with the original poster. I strolled into the tent during the day, and well, i was majorly underwhelmed. Although i did get a really sweet XBox poncho for free, i felt really bad for the kids i saw playing Madden. I had to wonder how much time they spend playing XBox while at home.
I could totally get sucked into a few good games of Playboy pinball, or a couple of rounds of Mortal Kombat II or Galaga
i of course didn't hate on the Madden players - if you make it to the farm then it's your roo - do what you will with it!!
Oh, how sick it is! Honestly one of the best games, both visually and content wise, that I have ever played. But, yeah. I was in the tent once when I was there in '06. Had a pretty good DJ spinning, so that was sweet. Didn't play any games though. Probably won't this time around either... I'm a playstation guy anyway.

The only arcade I need is the old school X-men video game. Nothing better than picking Colossus so you can do his special "AAAAHHHHHHHH" move. Classic game all the way and on of the better multi player arcade games out there.
Off topic: I have to agree with the GTAIV love. GTAIV is one of the funnest games out right now period. Almost anything that you can think of is in this game, and the physics are unreal. Also they give !!!, Justice, & Simian Mobile Disco some love in the game also.
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."
While I completely agree that he presence of old school rigs is awesome, I will admit that most retro arcade games are available on the 360 itself. If indeed Microsoft is going al the way with the arcade theme, then we could have games like Marble Madness, as well as great new Arcade games such as Rez, Geometry Wars, and Ikaruga. If they're going to toss in a couple of console games, I'll be dismayed, as I could easily play any demo at home. However, let us not admit defeat just yet, and cross our fingers for some great XBOX LIVE Arcade games to play. I'f Ikaruga is present, I'll be there, hoping for some co-op with anyone who's up to the challenge.

Two Words; Cinema Tent
Wen't from bad (02: haybails and little shade) to awesome (Spacious, couches and plenty of room on the ground, no AC but lots of shade and you could smoke and sleep) to not as good (AC, lines, limited seating and no sleeping/smoking). Yeah the director chats are cool, but they could have done those in the 03/04 style cinema tent as well. Oh well, I've just spent more time at the stages since the change, so maybe it's not such a bad thing.
