^I'm envious! I love pot lucks at work! At my old job, we used to have the "Twelve Days of Food-mas" The 11 days leading up to Christmas, we would sign up to bring snacks for everyone to munch on. Then the 12th day, we'd have a huge potluck and we would literally eat food all day. It was my favorite 12 days of the year!
The marketing department at my current job isn't nearly as cool. We do potluck one day for lunch near Christmas. And then most everyone buys food instead of making it. But not me! Last year, I made fried okra only to discover that the mostly-yankee-born members of our marketing department don't eat it (wft?? Do they not have fried okra up north?) Needless to say, I ate fried okra for a week after that. But I was ok with it cause I love me some fried okra
^Fried Okra is one of the last pieces of great southern cuisine that has not been exported to the Yankees yet. When I was first dating my GF who is Chinese, but was in Germany getting her PHD for 5 years, that she could think of it as Okra tempura. She has been constantly astonished at all the stuff we will fry down here. LRH have you ever had deep fried pickles, if you use good ones and cut them yourself they are heavenly.
Fried okra is the shiz-nit. LHR-- If you ever hit up a Cracker Barrel, they have some pretty decent fried okra. But homemade is definitely the best, esp. my grandmother's. It's taken me a while to perfect the technique, but now I can say confidently that I make some excellent fried okra.
And I agree, fried pickles are an uh-mazing feat of culinary genius!! But you have to have them at the right place... they aren't good at just anywhere. I prefer spears but a lot of people prefer chips. Wolfman, Rotier's has the best fried pickles in Nashville, in my opinion.

There's a plant in our office at knee-level, and every time I brush by one of its leaves I get a static-electric shock. WTF? What kind of plant can conduct electricity, anyway?

We have a place here in town called The Fried Pickle. It used to be my favorite spot in town, but then they changed ownership and now they are the suck.
Regardless... fried pickles are farkin delicious. Especially with a side of Ranch to dip in ;D

They make decent ones, as does Jim n Nicks, the best are homemade though. Another Nashville treat is the bread pudding at Yazoo I could eat that stuff and drink Nitro Stout all night.

That's good to know... I used to go there all the time when my friend lived on 25th and 3rd... but I haven't been there in about 5 years since she moved

^^^meh, I still think you should do it. I'm guessing you're probably the most frequent invisible on the board... Might as well have fun with it
That does suck how the cover of an invisible user is blown right when they post though. It's like playing Hide and Seek and then saying hello when the seeker enters the room you're hiding in

Ummm...actually I think that was fried zucchini we had in ATL LRH...but...next time you are down here I'll make you some real fried okra and it will be at LEAST as yummy as the zucchini...which was AWESOME...as it was from The Vortex and is my FAVE side there....
At least I don't remember that we had any okra...or went anyplace that would have HAD decent okra.... ???

Use frozen okra, seasoned, beaten egg and seasoned cornmeal. It's really that easy!
Ummm...actually I think that was fried zucchini we had in ATL LRH...but...next time you are down here I'll make you some real fried okra and it will be at LEAST as yummy as the zucchini...which was AWESOME...as it was from The Vortex and is my FAVE side there....

I've lived in Louisiana all my life and I've never had fried okra or zucchini. Should I fix that? I've never really been a fan of either vegetable...are they better fried?
