I enjoyed Kanye's performance. Was it late? yes. Was I angry about waiting up front for 4 hours? yes. Did I think his spaceship was ridiculous and a little funny? yes. That being said, I don't think it was all his fault he was late. It was a combination of his set taking longer than expected to set up and pearl jam playing an hour longer than they were scheduled. I also hear people complain about kanye seeming angry and uncaring during his set. I think the crowd is partially responsible for that. After their angry chants, damaging his screen, and throwing glow sticks at him, he had the right. People can complain as much as they want, but they had the option of leaving. All I'm saying is I enjoyed Kanye, and I think the Bonnaroo crowd is giving him more crap than he deserves.

yeah well i like many other people waited the 2 hours for the kanye west show. i was pissed off at the delayed start and at his failure to interact with the crowd. i really don't care what the reason was cause it was pretty much a disaster. but i enjoyed the show and i thought it was pretty awesome that a show was played during actual sunrise. for all the complainers, most of them don't like kanye to begin with and alot others are just pissed cause they were tired. seriously no one made anyone have to stay and watch and everyone could have easily left and went to the campgrounds. it could have been better no doubt but it still was my favorite show this year

I think it's bull that we can defend him in saying that it was set change, because originally there was an hour between Ben Folds and when he was originally supposed to perform at 8:15 they had an hour and 45 mins to set that crap up and to my knowledge he had his people there to help set up stuff, just like every band does. HIS PEOPLE KNOW HOW LONG IT TAKES TO SET UP STUFF. Truthfully, I believe had a longer set up been the case which truthfully is such a mediocre thing I believe someone from staff or even Kanye himself would have gotten on stage and let people know what's up. From what I heard from people since I didn't go to that show no one said crap which I believe is a cover up for something else. Possible he was crying backstage that 2:45 wasn't exactly dark enough...haha j/k. Anyway my point being regardless of it being him being a whiny over pampered artist which is unprofessional of him or there being a long set change which is unprofessional of his people. The entire thing shouldn't of happened and it was very unprofessional of everyone. When you have some people paying almost 300 to see him you don't play those bullshit games.
so, despite all this does anyone else think it was still pretty lame of Robert Randolph to start a "Kanye Sucks" chant? It seems petty and childish to me.
I see it as Robert Randolph including himself in the Bonnaroo community. This is something Metallica successfully did and something Kanye didn't even attempt and in turn failed miserably at. I honestly think Randolph was offended by his move... I don't know if he was somewhere waiting to watch or what, but he seemed just as fed up with it as rest of the community. I loved it
EXACTLY...
Robert Randolph was not the only artist to do this. Rogue wave did it and as from what my friend said she heard, either Ladytron or Aimee mann or both said it as well. They felt like it was just a lack of respect for the fans who paid to see him. Like I said in my above post it was unprofessional. And the situation would had gone over smooth if Kanye came out at 3:30 and said hey here's the issue I'm sorry about it or even when he got on stage he stopped and said you know thanks for coming out sorry you had to wait so long we're idiots etc etc.
I may be adding more fuel to the fire, but it looks like Kanye had other plans that night on top of Bonnaroo, which shifted his time a bit from the mid evening slot to the 2:45 am slot he supposedly had. The blog says he was supposed to go on @ 8:45 pm, but it was actually 8:15 pm.:
i dont know, but im hearing alot of negative roo sentiment this year, which just makes me more excited for allgood.. where we don't have to worry about egotistical mainstream acts.

Wow...I can't believe I read all of that. And from my crackberry no less.
Anyway, I have to thoroughly disagree with the person who was defending kanye and said it was his favorite show this year. I was one of I'm sure many that were wanting to catch the show out of pure curiosity. We headed over after sigur ros(which was epically beautiful, btw) and saw the alert about the first time change. We were willing to wait 15 minutes, but when it changed to 330, we decided to hit up the silent disco for a while, and then check back. We were easily distracted by the awesomeness, and face-melting performance by ghostland, which was probably the best show of the weekend, IMO. Once ghostland ended, we even decided to try back once again. We were met by a couple coming back from the still empty what stage, and they were already chanting KANYE SUCKS,so let's not give sole credit to RR(and btw, yonder mtn had a thing or two to say about it as well).
There were thousands of people waiting to see what they thought would be an amazing late night performance, fans and non-fans alike. The fact that kanye and AC showed a complete disregard for informing their goers is what fueled the fire. I assure you if something had been said from the start, that there would have been plenty of people still willing to give him a chance.
As for being the best show of the weekend, well, maybe you should have checked out some other bands during that two hour delay. Or maybe your standards or different than mine. I saw no reason to put in effort to go to a show for someone who put in so little effort for us.

Yonder said something along the lines of "Dont worry folks we are on time and plan on playing the entire set" Then when BSS equipment was messing up they said "We are going to take one of those Kanye West breaks"
anytime his name was mentioned for the rest of the weekend people just started BOOOOOOOOING
I think it's bull that we can defend him in saying that it was set change, because originally there was an hour between Ben Folds and when he was originally supposed to perform at 8:15 they had an hour and 45 mins to set that crap up and to my knowledge he had his people there to help set up stuff, just like every band does. Fair enough with your arguement about the set change (even though you negate to mention that pearl jam went over scheduled time and the crew had to take down their lights and such). My point is I don't think Kanye intentionally waited till two hours after his scheduled time to start. I think something, whatever that may be, caused it. I think Kanye didn't apologize to the crowd because he didn't want break character from his show or maybe because he was pissed off about starting late or his screen being broken. Is that a weak reason? yes. But would Kanye really need a big reason with his ego? I'll agree that Kanye's ego is to big and he can be a jerk. I'm just saying I enjoyed his show and him being late wasn't all his fault probably.
The Bonnaroo boobirds were out in full force for Kanye West this weekend.
The Grammy winner walked onto the festival stage nearly two hours past his scheduled 2:45 a.m. performance time Sunday morning and was greated by bleary-eyed fans' chorus of boos and chants of "Kanye sucks."
West was originally set to kick things off at 8:15 p.m., but because he wanted to make the most of his Glow-in-the-Dark Tour's lighting show, the hip-hopster's camp asked to push back the gig to 2:45 a.m. following Pearl Jam's show.
However, the Seattle grunge rockers' gig lasted an hour longer than planned, with Eddie Vedder and bandmates not wrapping until 1:15 a.m. Then there was an extended break while Pearl Jam's roadies disassembled the band's stage and West's crew set up his own elaborate backdrop, a glow-in-the-dark spaceship along with undulating black platform and raised video screen. Organizers posted a message via Jumbotron that the "Can't Tell Me Nothing" rapper wouldn't be taking the stage until 3:15 a.m., then 3:30. When 4:15 a.m. rolled around and still no West, the antsy crowd began hurling glow sticks at the stage and screaming anti-West sentiments. Bonnaroo officials didn't help the matter, not informing festivalgoers why the changeover was taking so long.
West finally made his entrace at 4:30 a.m., but by then, many exhausted attendees had had enough and returned to their tents.
Apparently, they didn't miss too much.
Judging by online reviews, West's performance didn't stand out from the 150 acts performing at the four-day musical campout. In fact, it was a yawner.
"He was two hours late, cut his show short, didn't once acknowlegde the crowd that waited two hours on an already late show, not even a wave goodbye...I'm no longer a Kanye fan, huge disappointment," one fan wrote at the music blog Stereogum.com.
"It's not the stage hands' fault; that stage was set up for well over an hour before Kanye decided to grace us with his presence," wrote another attendee on VillageVoice.com. "The next time he holds that finger up and proclaims himself as #1, I hope someone tells him what he can do with that finger."
Per festival reports, West failed to even acknowledge his tardiness.
The bad vibes carried over to Sunday's daytime slate, when during his set pedal-steel guitar virtuoso Robert Randolph groused about West's behavior, prompting fans to reprise the "Kanye sucks" chant.
There was no immediate comment from the West camp.

Kanye refused to go on while other bands were performing, they made Phil Lesh stop early to acomidate Kanyae, it seems Kanye doesnt handle compitition. I hope that they invite Kanye back next year, I will bring a case of glowsticks just to throw at his dumb ass. Even if you are they type of person who likes pre-recorded tracks and bad karaoke, you should expect your wonderful Mr. west to atleast say something, entertain his fans with some song or something. to shut down Phil at a music fest. is the silliest thing I have ever heard. Phil is one of the originators of music festivals, and if you saw him instead of Kanye then yyou know what I mean. shame on superfly for stopping such an incredible show to apease a bitch lie kanyaaaaaaa
i didn't really want to see kanye but my friend wanted to see a song or two so he could at least *say* he's seen kanye play. we waited for a half hour or so before saying screw this... we headed over to see chali 2na which was definitely one of my favorite performances of the weekend.
after chali 2na and laughing hysterically at the people in the silent disco for 45 minutes i head music off in the distance and decided to check it out. turns out kanye had decided to perform after all.. i was not impressed. in the slightest.
it was too light out to get the mood right. i pretty much lost it when he started rolling around on the ground and talking to a computer. sure, some of his songs are catchy but the entire thing was laughable.

So, I am a casual Kanye fan. I wanted to see his show just to say I had seen it, plus I was pretty excited about the show considering it was the same guy who did Daft Punk's lightshow.
We left Chromeo at 2 to get a good spot for Kanye. My boyfriend's fraternity brother, who does sound for the main stage, said, "Oh no. The work lights are on. That means it's going to be at least another hour."
So I laid down and took a nap so that I would be awake at his show. I woke up to people booing and saw the sign that said "Kanye West delayed until 3:30 AM". That was all I could handle. I went back to camp and went to sleep. The next morning, when I asked my boyfriend how Kanye was, he said "F*cking horrible." I'm glad I didn't make it to the show. Needless to say, Kanye has lost 2 fans.
I for one, however, can't WAIT to read about it in his blog. ;D

Wandered into Kanye after Ghostland and waited 30 minutes. To be honest the reason I stayed was to see the crowd reaction when he cancelled. Really didn't think he was going to start. The show itself was uninspired and weak sauce, it was getting light at 5:15am and I bolted. Only positive was seeing the stage get pelted with water bottles, etc leading up to the show.
I think I got video of the crowd leaving Robert Randolph chanting "Kanye sucks" after RR ripped him. Greatness.
I heard nothing but terrible terrible things about this... I went to check it out, saw that it had been pushed back to 3:15, saw that it was 3:25, went back out, came back and nothing, so I went back to camp.
Never have I experienced such negativity than Sunday with all the "Kanye hates hippies" signs and yelling fuck Kanye.
I wasn't really diggin all of that BS. Bad, bad situation.
