I got to see my first movie in the cinema tent this year. Saw Claypool's movie, about the jam band scene, the name is escaping me. It was really cute, I am going to Netflix it and watch it again. We got a great seat on one of the couches and it was cool in there (went in the heat of the day). Didn't wait too long, it was awesome.
The Al Gore Show, aka, Inconvenient Truth. I thought it was shameless to use the death of his son to push his political agenda. I would have liked to see more balance in the film and for people to realize that Gore drives around in his SUV and has his family money tied up in some of the highest carbon emitting companies on the face of the planet.

i watched both NBA finals games in there, and the crowd was enjoying themself. everyone was loud and cheering. it was a great atmosphere to relax and watch a game.

The best story on this movie was out of the UK where students sued a school for showing the movie as educational. The judge ruled that only scientific facts could be shown, and all other opinions had to be edited out of the movie for the students. The final version of the movie was around 12 minutes long.
"Al Gore did not invent the internet...but he did make up global warming."
Know Your Mushrooms!!! It was a toss-up between watching this movie or catching robert randolph, and there was no shade to be had at the RR show. It turned out to be a really interesting doc about all sorts of mushrooms, directed by the guy who did "Grass", another great doc. It was a nice cool place to relax, and a very generous girl gave me her blinky hand fan when I told her I thought it was cool! That's going to be one of my long-lasting roo memories!
I also caught a little bit of Game 5, but I was a little more interested at staring at the stars and the tree outside the cinema tent than watching the game, given my state of mind :>

Was anyone else there for the screening of 'Gonzo' and they announced that someone stole the dvd? Myself and half the place walked out, but I heard from a friend that they eventually found it.
I caught 40 Year Old Virgin and a couple of minutes of the Slingshot Hip Hop and Christmas on Mars.
40YOV is always funny.
Slingshot would've been interesting, probably, except that it was subtitled and the subtitles were below the heads of the people in the front row so I had no idea what they were saying or rapping about. That might be something to work on for next year.
Now, granted I only caught a few minutes of Christmas so maybe I missed the part that explained why it was so awful (the scene I saw involved someone in a Santa costume running through a space station and then falling at the face of Wayne Coyne dressed as an alien) but it looked Ed Wood bad. Just awful. Maybe it got better, though....
Oh, while I applaud their commitment to Important Film (documentaries and whatnot), I think that the Roo Community is better served by keeping it light and/or familiar in keeping with the transitory nature of the audience. I liked it much better when you could pop in between sets and catch twenty minutes of "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" or "Friday the 13th" instead of showing things while demand a ninety-plus minute commitment -- at least during the 1PM-3AM period where there are many, many bands playing.
All I caught was the tail end of a movie talking about how polar bears will be extinct in 100 years and that was followed by some weird recycling movie. ::

That's a shame. I was on the verge of going to see that, but I think I'm just going to catch it in Houston next week.
We went in on Thursday and they were showing some movie about shitting cows. I think there was supposed to be a message about being a vegetarian in there. Pretty gross. I had to leave and console myself with an arepa.
We went on Sunday night to catch the NBA game but the tent was packed. We watched from the rail outside for about 30 minutes before finally getting in. We had 4 of us and couldn't sit together so we just stood at the back of the tent for a couple minutes before leaving. We went back and caught a few minutes of Widespread Panic then I headed back to the tent alone and listened to the game on the radio in our van...

Yep we were there... we left. Damn, didn't know they found it later!
There was a guy behind me who at the perfect time shouted, "But do you have Addam's Family II?"
I'm allergic to the sun (no, seriously, I am), so I spent a LOT of time in the Cinema tent. I loved Electric Apricot. My fiancee and I sang "Hey Are You Goin' to Burning Man" all weekend long.
The cow shitting movie wasn't really about vegetarianism per se, but about eating less meat. (ex peta member). All the cow poop puts a lot of nitrogen into the atmosphere. "You can't be an environmentalist without being a vegetarian," as I used to say. "Bullshit," I say now. Or I guess I should say "Cowshit."
I thought the 2 minute PSA's were a little boring. Maybe they should have played one between each real film.
The documentary about the veteran in the wheelchair was very good. That old congressman in the end was soooo cute : )
Don't worry about missing the Bela Fleck movie. I slept through part of it.
I'm calling for artist sponsored days next year. Pick four artists and have them each program a day's movies.
Edit: By artist, I meant performer. Not, like, paint brush guys and gals. Not that I have anything against that, just much more interested in seeing what movies Les Claypool, Warren Haynes, et al would choose.

At first i thought i sid...Bob Ross(RIP)?? I think it would be really cool for the performers to pick...but it would cause me to miss soooo many shows... How do you all deal w/ that...I never made it to the tent because i needed to see as many shows as possible! (May have been a rookie move...not sure)
