I got to talk to James Hetfield briefly. He was actually surprisingly friendly and said the 'Roo vibe was absolutely perfect.
That's awesome! For some reason I was wondering what they thought of Roo and if they were having a good time or sort of wondering what they were doing there, so I'm glad to hear they were enjoying themselves. I have NO clue why I was wondering about this, though.

I was hanging out by the fountain on Saturday afternoon, about to leave and I notice that Jónsi from Sigur Rós has been chilling a few feet away the whole time. Between the small entourage with him and his reputation for being very shy and reclusive, I decided it was best not to try to talk to him. I did attempt to snap a photo... but it didn't come out.

Back in '07 I sat across the aisle from Michael Ivins (Flaming Lips guitarist) on my layover to Cincinnatti. Recognized him by his colorful, non-matching socks.
David Cross was backstage during fountains of wayne in 07 and I was up by the stage and I said "your david cross" and he said "yes I am" and poked me in the chest and I just smiled at him because I was pretty corny

I sat down at a picnic table in 07 to eat and looked up to see Colin Meloy of The Decemberists sitting across from me. We had a conversation, enjoyed our food, and parted ways. It was pretty epic.
Did you have any celebrity encounters this weekend?
Here's my funny story. I was standing in line at the VIP bathrooms and spotteed a familiar face in the line next to me. I did a double take and then realized it was Amy Grant.
Yes the "Baby, Baby" Amy Grant of 90s fame. My Mom listened to Amy Grant constantly while I was growing up so I had to get a picture with her. So I waited til she was done, approached her and asked for a picture.
Enjoy the squintiest most horrible picture of me ever with the one and only Amy Grant after she just pooped
Holy jesus your ugly. But yeah, I met Kurt Cobain there last year outside a corn dog vendor.

Is beatle Bob really a "celebrity"? I saw him at a Langhorne Slim show one week ago. I know I read a Rolling Stone article but I thought most people hated him because of his weird vibe.

I met Brian Posehn last year walking to see Mastodon. I kinda walked right into him coming out of a beverage tent, which is hilarious since he's like 10 ft. tall. But I just basically apologized, told him he was my favorite comedian, and then kinda laughed about the odds of stumbling into my favorite comedian hundreds of miles from home in the middle of a farm. He was friendly, I didn't try to chat him up or anything, just casual stuff, since I knew he was basically on his downtime, and in the same rush I was.

OMG, I can totally picture that happening. Too funny!
I'm from the St. Louis area and I can but in my $0.02 about Beatle Bob. In the sense that he is well known, he is a celebrity. A celebrity does not have to be well-liked.
Some people love Bob, some people can't stand him. But one does have to admire his dedication to live music. He attends a show (or several) every single night. He makes it to these big festivals without owning a car. His personal life is mostly a mystery. But seeing Beatle Bob at a show you at at is sort of like a seal of approval. He is a character.

Drea De Matteo who played Adrianna in the Sopranos was there in '06. Her character was killed by Silvio Dante, who will be at Roo this year in the form of Steven Van Zandt on the What Stage headlining Saturday night! Nice!

During my first Bonnaroo (2006) I was sitting by the path that leads backstage to the Which stage during Matisyahu. I kept seeing people leaving with Backstage passes and asking them "What is it like back there." Most people ignored me or gave me a dirty look, but finally this nice old dude stopped in his tracks. He pulled a pass out of his pocket, told me his friend never showed up to grab it from him, and said don't get in trouble as he handed me the pass. Once I went backstage I got into a conversation with the people from CNN.com and Napster. We noticed that there was a ladder that led to the stage and watched as this random guy we were talking to climbed it and went to take pictures. I followed the mans lead soon after and ended up on stage during Matisyahu! We all stood in the back of the stage well behind where the band was set up and took pictures. Eventually security noticed that we were up there and told us to go back before we got in trouble. After his set was over I got to give the thumbs up to Matisyahu and pat him on the back. I checked out one more show on the What stage from the viewing balcony before we had to head back home. All in all the coolest thing that has happened to me at a roo.

Awesome story. I got backstage for Death Cab for Cutie last year. My bud and I hung out to get a rail spot for Plant & Krauss. As soon as the set was over we jetted over to catch the end of Death Cab's set and saw a gate open where golf carts were going through. We strolled right in and nobody said anything to us. Walked all the way to the which stage and thought we would just watch from there until we got thrown out. It never happened. I guess people didnt care since it was the nearing the end of the fest.
I'm horrible at recognizing people, even celebrities or musicians. Our tents are directly behind What Stage, and every time we want to go anywhere in Roo, we have to take this backstage road. It takes you behind What and Which stage and we have to take it whenever we decide to leave the campsite, whether it's for a show or a run through GA. Anyway, we see pretty much everyone except the headliners on a frequent basis. My friends kept pointing out people passing us the first few days last year. I think the biggest we saw were the guys from MGMT. Tried to get a pic, but it was a damn fast golf cart

LOL that's great. I just listened to a bootleg of his 07 show. I'm so bummed he isn't coming this year after what happened last year.

Security probably wouldn't have noticed us on stage in the first place had I not been using a Kodak disposable camera, we did a real good job of not being a problem.
