So we are adopting a dog this weekend. Her name is currently Eliza but I have a friend named Eliza and can't have a dog with the same name...... So we will be re-naming her.
My first choice for a dog name has always been Marley but that book, Marley & Me, came out so everyone is now naming their dogs Marley. My other dogs names are Karma and Lucy (or Lulu is what we call her).
Any ideas? Music related is always good. I was thinking maybe Stella (as in Grateful Dead song Stella Blue).......

How long has she had the name Eliza? Because sometimes they will never get readjusted to there new name unless you give them a name that sounds similar.
Example my friend adopted a dog that was use to his name Mofo, he decided to change his name to Moses.
So what about the name Elsa? Very german name for a very german dog
That's a good point. We adopted a dog when I was little whose name was Snack. We changed it to Zach, which then became Zachary, which then became Zachary Taylor.

She is apparently 3 but I think the foster family gave her the name Eliza so I think it is pretty recent.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I still think I don't like anything else better than Stella yet. So that is probably the name she is going to get My daughter wants to name her a Pokemon name lol

As long as you change it right when you get her it should be OK. It's not so much that they know their name, but they know what their owner calls them. Dog's usually adjust to a new name by a new owner pretty quickly, especially that young. Now, if YOU start calling her Eliza for awhile and she gets used to that and then you change it, that could be a problem
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**

So we got our new baby last night - she is a sweetheart and our other dogs seem to like her pretty well so far. Eliza definitely does not suit her personality but we still have not picked a new name.....
Here is a pic of her at our house and also one of our other babies
