Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Yeah, like it's been said, you'll fit in just fine. Agreed on the "thug" types being the oddballs. Even if they were white, we still would have been complaining about it (and I think we have). The only requirement to fit in at Bonnaroo is great energy. When you're full of great vibes, the pigments in your skin aren't noticeable. I kept seeing a "blippie" at the shows that I went to on Friday afternoon. At the beginning of the fest like that people are generally sober and still have the white people stick up their asses, but her energy was loosening everyone up. It was awesome. Mad karma for that girl, wherever she may be.
I'm brown (my father is a black Cuban), and I never felt weird. Bonnaroo is a wonderful, welcoming place. Having said that, I have never really noticed racism, even as a child of interracial parents, because I have never really looked for it. A couple times my friends have commented on someone looking at me odd in certain circumstances (often I think they are trying to figure out "what I am") but I am usually blissfully oblivious. All that to say, if you are paranoid about it, you might pick up on something, but if you go to Bonnaroo with the intention of having a great time and enjoying yourself and others, your mindset will set the tone for a great weekend, I promise.
I'm a interacial child myself. I never had any issue besides the questions about my height and girls wanting to touch my afro. I mean there are white black yellow, blue, and green people at roo. Color really isnt an issue
LOL @ this! I've worn an afro on and off and there is no end to people (black and white) who have come up wanting to touch my hair! So funny! I take it as a compliment though... A lot of people have never seen a black person's hair in its napptural state...hell, I can't stop touching it myself!

yeah an afro is bad enough but being almost seven foot with an afro is worse... I love my fro but now sadly it may be time for me to dread it down as it's flattened down by the roof of my car.
Just don't ride dirty, as they are some profiling MuthaF**king pigs on the way.. trust me, I'm a white guy who looks pretty clean cut and I got profiled and busted.

Okay, Finally got the picture off phone, sent via Bluetooth to computer, uploaded to Photobucket, rotated and posted.
This is the image that my son pointed out.
Just very interesting the things some people see, but not others.
We had a family gathering yesterday and I heard an interesting statistic - my mom and step-dad have 10 children between them. Four children adopted and multi-racial. They have 20 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Only 4 of the grand children are not multi-racial. My little sister has a step grand child that is nearly 1.
What part of Alabama are you from? That's where I'm living now, and I went to college in Montgomery.
Gadsden, bout 15 min from you!
Oh my dear! I feel for you! I grew up in Albertville...about 30 min north of Gadsden....Etowah County ( and Marshall too ) had their reputations of at least enclaves of not-so-tolerent organizations and affiliation...and still do last I heard! There are/were some places you didn't go....sigh...which is SOOO very sad esp in this day and age....
So after hearing my friends talk about 'Roo for several years, and lurking on this board for quite a while, I've decided that I wanna be a part of Bonnaroo 2010 (can't go next year)!
My only hang up is that I'm black, my husband is white, and frankly, I'm kinda nervous!
I keep hearing about the wonderful community and vibes at Bonnaroo, then I come across a few negative comments about "the blacks" and their "bunk NO NO WORD!!!" and a whole lot of "I'm not racist, but" comments. I also hear that Manchester isn't too friendly to people of color.
I wanna 'Roo, but I don't want to pretend not to hear people whisper the "N" word behind my back or deal with a bunch of gawking rednecks. I deal with that enough as it is in Alabama
Just a black hippie (blippie?) looking for fun in the mud, some tasty corn, and good vibes and music!
Any 'Rooers of color willing to share their experience?
Any one who doesn't want "my kind" at the farm???
My wife and I went, stayed with troo. My wife is black and I am white and had no problems at all with anyone at Bonnaroo with it. On the drive down we had a few dirty looks from people at a gas station but none at roo...
Instead of dirt and poison, we have rather chosen to fill our hives with honey and wax; thus furnishing mankind with the two noblest of things, which are sweetness and light.
Bonnaroo welcomes all people, no matter what their skin color, religion, sexual orientation or nationality may be - as long as you're tolerant of others and just want to have a good time and listen to some good music... and welcome to Inforoo!
