...im gonna let someone else take this cuz its really something you must experience first hand...tDB crowd is an interesting one, but i dont think its a creepfest. i mean yes, there are creepsters, forsho...but im not gonna explain why/how hahah..some of those 'creepies' are my friends!!
Eh. Just way too much hard druqs, menace, threats of violence...guy in front of us in line to the venue got yanked for carrying two switchblades and a very large bag of something white, a ton of people were only there to sell and rip people off...saw several fights outside the venue on the 29th and 30th...just really bad vibes.
Geez....that sucks. I can see why that would turn you off.
Not to derail this thread - again - but speaking of creepy. There was this big red headed giant kid at The Racontuers show this year who would not stop staring at my wife's chest. She was wearing this (almost) see through dress that was pretty low cut and he comes up next to us and just starts staring at her chest - intensely - for extended periods of time - while the band was playing. Finally, I just started staring at him until he noticed and made eye contact with me. I just kind of shook my head - as to say - "Dude, you reaaaally need to stop that." He seemed to get the hint. Shortly after, this group of girls dressed as burlesque dancers made their way through the crowd and he left to follow them, I assume so he could stare at their girl parts. Total creep-machine, that guy.

I feel like fests like All Good are so much cheaper to put on than bonnaroo they have a good chance of sticking around. I was personally suprised how much press bonnaroo got this year, last year in rolling stone they had like a comment about it, this year there was a 4 page article. Although ticket sales are down i think that bonnaroo is being more and more identified as americas premier fest, so for now i'd say it too has a lot of staying power. APW i agree won't last, and I'm wondering about outside lands as well. I feel like even Rothbury wasn't nearly as succesful as I expected, although its hard to gauge since you can't judge entirely by ticket sales and I wasn't there.
camp bisco is actually a lot less shady than you would think. I saw no violence last year at all, the bikers wouldnt tolerate that poop at all. I didnt hear of any theft last year at all and if you bought some bunk poop last year you were in the minority everything floating around was pretty banging. at camp its pretty easy to avoid the sketchballs, but honestly camp last year I felt very safe we left our poop out with no probs everyone was extremely friendly and since its so small by the end of the fest you know about 2/3rds of the people there. then again I knew 1/2 of em already anyway.
ya i wouldnt worry too much about camp bisco... those bikers dont mess around with the sketchy peeps... although bisco does have a sketchy scene. but like becca said, i just kinda accept and embrace it... sure i could do without it, but its not ruining anything for me.. although i hope bisco never comes to the ledges. its a true paradise, but sketchy people love the ledges too. its easier to just keep them as far away as possible or they move in. quack h and k and dmt, and crystal!!! that poop is evil!!
and for the record the ledges is festie heaven!!! all good is second. get it right BECCA!!!! ;D
btw as far as small time fests id say legend valley might have some issues. spring hookahville draws a decent number, but most are from columbus or hardcore hookah fans. but fall hookahville will be tiny this year with gratefulfest being the same weekend 100 miles away. not to mention moe. down in ny the same weekend. and spring hookahville has summercamp to deal with. plus legend valley just sucks. crazy scanners for wristbands and real uniformeds cops and a dozen undercovers rolling around the site... even parking their 4 wheelers and watching the crowd right by the stage. they don do much but its still nasty. grateful garcia gathering is new to LV this year but its looking not so good. there has been a promoter war and it appears like GGG is getting quacked pretty bad. it is already overpriced. and now i hear headlining bands are dropping out. and everyone i know is going to see lotus and eoto at the ledges that weekend. i think alot of peeps are just plain fed up with legend valley. i wouldnt be surprised to see them having issues in the near future. and im betting that grateful garcia gathering will not be around next year. atleast not in ohio

I'm trying to find a ride there. My friend Tim says if he can go he'll drive, but it isn't likely he can go..

Greyhounding it is possible
if i couldnt miss work for it, i MAY be convinced. but i cant miss work, MAAAAAAAAAAYBE a day.
the point of the festies being in the Summer is thats when all the college kids (a huge chunk of the population of music festivals) is out of class. If Bonnaroo was during April or October, sure it would be better weather, but they wouldn't have nearly the attendance due to the biggest demographic being in class.
I can see that consideration but I know that if I was in college, I would be more likely to get a bunch of peeps together and skip out on a couple of days of class. Especially if it was in October and I had to purchase tix in the summer when I was actually making some money. (As opposed to February when I would always be broke!)
Please do- apparently the board fuzz don't take kindly to errant posts.
Fests like Camp Bisco are more of a cottage industry like the cruises - built in fan base and not really designed to do much more than break even. Cracker/Camper Van Beethoven has one too.
APW has a chance for the same reason Lolla has been successful- it could become a no-brainer to a large metro community that would be up for such a thing even if few from 200 miles away showed up.
I don't know if I can say whether All Good is cheap to put on or not- I think attendance this year will be telling (but I have little other point of reference). But I think it's worth noting that it's not Bonnaroo that now threatens All Good's regulars, but all the just-smaller fests in surrounding regions that distract during hard economic times. Case and point in Virginia: Floydfest. Some of these smaller regional fests are doing VERY well, filling a void for wanderlust without breaking the bank in travel.

Personally I wish I could win the lottery so I can experience all of these festies. Been to roo twice and the smaller fests I have been to were Bear Creek and Ashefest (this was at deerfields, and I am trying hard to figure a way so I can go to the Trilumenal fest going on their on 08-08-08....just an absolute beautiful place).
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."

Hookahville just keeps getting smaller and smaller, I think its on its way out. I remember when they use to get some really big names there, it was the first time I saw RRFB. NLQP is definitely the place to be though, wish i wasn't so far from it now. It was nice being 15 minutes from Hookah when it was at frontier, thats for sure.
