HOLY BALLS ON A STICK....I am hung the quack over. Ok, so the show was pretty damn amazing. Neil sounds better live than I could have ever imagined. Plus, JEEBUS, the man can wail. He jammed the hell out of so many of his songs. Wilco was awesome as usual. There was no colab with Neil although I did have an interesting conversation after the show.
So, I met my gf and her friend at a bar in Northern Liberties and we're hanging out and outta the blue I see John Stirratt, the bassist from Wilco standing in front of me talking to some guys. I guess he gets recognized alot or something cause he was swamped with people talking to him the whole time we were there. Anyway, I just go over and tell him what a great show it was and shake his hand and I come back to the bar and Pat Sansone, the multi-instrumentalist from Wilco is talking to my gf and her friend. So I strike up a conversation with him. Told him I saw them at Roo in 04 and 06 and I asked him about any possible colabs with Neil coming up. He said that Neil did play with them for the Bridge School Benefit this year and that he wasn't sure if Neil'd be coming out to play with them or not. He said they want him to and hopefully he would. I asked if maybe at MSG? And he said maybe. So yeah. Crazy weird awesome night. I guess those two guys must be good friends cause they're the two band members of Autumn Defense too. Anyway, here's the setlist from Neil that he seems to play everynight.....
Love And Only Love / Hey Hey, My My / Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere / Powderfinger / Spirit Road / Cortez The Killer / Cinnamon Girl / Oh, Lonesome Me / Mother Earth / The Needle And The Damage Done / Light A Candle / Unknown Legend / Heart Of Gold / Old Man / Get Back To The Country / Just Singing A Song / Sea Change / When Worlds Collide / Cowgirl In The Sand / Rockin' In The Free World // A Day In The Life
And Wilco's......

After the show. It was probably 12:30 in the am. It was really cool and very random cause we were so far away from the stadium. But I guess when you're in a band, you know what bars to go to, in the cities you visit where "your people" will be congregating
I am so insanely jealous of some of my friends right now. One of my good buddy's from college, his uncle does all the instrument tuning and stuff like that for Neil Young and his band. Last night, that friend and a few of our mutual friends got backstage passes to Neil's concert. They got to meet and also hang out with the band afterwards (though they didn't meet Neil himself). Damn lucky quackers!

Neil Young is the fucking man! I saw him Saturday night at the DCU Center in Worcester MA (i dunno why this date isnt in the original post) and it was awesome. first time i saw him and he definitely did not dissapoint. ending with a really long keep on rocking in the free world followed by a day in the life as the encore was amazing. wilco was also great.
OMG. People. Everest, Wilco and Neil Young last night at Madison Square Garden. I was on the rail! I really enjoyed Everest, having listened to only one or two of their songs in the past. Definitely check them out. Wilco had a short, 45-50 minute set, but they were spot on. And Neil Young. The Man. The Myth. The Legend. I'm still in a state of disbelief. Here are the setlists and some pics:

i was also at the DCU show, one person off the rail, and as everyone has said Neil did not disappoint. well, at least not with the classics. the new songs, especially "Cough Up The Bucks" we kind of god awful...but those weak songs were more than made up for by everything else.
I thought they were pretty good...the lead singer seemed to be channeling Paul Simon, Ben Bridwell and a couple of others. The Watson Twins came out and did backup on one of their songs (I think one of them might be married to someone in the band?). I was with a fairly harsh critic and even he liked them. I'll be checking out more of them on Rhapsody. I remember reading somewhere that Bo Koster recently played with them somewhere on the West Coast.
They did a tour wth Neil in Europe and were supposed to split the days off with MMJ and open for them. I have been sitting on that record for months now. I really like it. Good to hear they were good. I wanna hear more from them.
sass, your photos-- wow! i bet those tix were worth it! due to coming down with a nasty cold & ear infection, i had to skip the philly show how i would've loved to hear "a day in the life."
Hi Heather! Gah, you are having a rough fall/winter...I'm sorry .
Danbird, that's Pat Sansone. The camera I use is a piece of crap that is horrible in low light situations, but I'm always afraid to try to sneak the Nikon in. Luckily I was close enough to get some decent shots.

Saw Wilco and Neil at MSG the second night. Was really, really good. Neil looked like he was 25 years old.....rocking hard and loud. So good. Would love to see him invited to the farm again. Anyway two things that were interesting about the wilco set:
1.) Jeff Tweedy announced it was his son Spencer's thirteenth birthday. He then brought the kid out and everyone sang happy birthday. After that he joined the band on drums for a song (although the name of it escapes me right now).
2.) Before launching into "I'm the man who loves you", Tweedy said something along the lines of "You guys are here for something special. This may be the last time you ever see this done" or something like that. I wasn't sure what he meant exactly but it was definitely intriguing.

about wilco, did anyone have them do some crazy shit? lol
what i mean by that is, i dont know the name of the songs, but they are playing all Wilco like and then BAM! the lights go red and the drummer and someone else just goes fucking APE SHIT and rock out, then all of a sudden you are just back into the Wilco sound you recognize. Not sure how much they do that but i really loved it.
they do that in some of their songs... sometimes when its on in the car and i get out during a song and turn it back on... its like wtf was i listening to??
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
about wilco, did anyone have them do some crazy poop? lol

yeah everyone i was with was confused but seemed to like it. it was incredible how they went from mellow wilco to HOLY FUCK WHAT GOING ON RIGHT NOW and right back into mellow without missing a beat. Wilco was really impressive. Everest i thought was alright but there was something missing for me, but i cant pin point what.
Neil is neil, has always been neil, will always be neil. I LOVE NEIL YOUNG.
