It seems like a foregone conclusion that a Phish performance at Bonnaroo would go over really well, but I wonder if this is due to a universal appeal or more of a passionate response by a certain subset of people. This poll might give some insight into this question.
I'm not a Phish fan, but I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone protesting if they got one or two nights headlining Bonnaroo. I mean, two might be stretching it for the general audience, but I don't think it would be nearly as controversial as Tool in 07 or Metallica/Kanye in 08.
I'm a fan, but as it has been said many times before: Phish will not play Bonnaroo. They have their own festivals and could just as easily gather a crowd of the same size.
I've heard that argument, and I understand it, but frankly, I don't see why the hell they would turn down the large sum of cash Superfly would likely offer them to play one night of music. It's not like any of the past headliners who played Bonnaroo had any trouble selling out shows because they played Bonnaroo.

Somewhere between don't care and alright (wound up voting don't care for them). I like a couple songs ok.
My wife however, absolutly LOATHS Trey. I mean, she can pick Trey's guitar playing alone out of a list of literally 10s of thousands of songs in seconds. She isn't even that accurate with guitar players she likes.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
I think they're alright...but I'm not particularly into SUPER jam-bands. About as close as I come is loving me some Dave Matthews. I wouldnt have any objection at all to Phish playing a (two would be pushing it) night at 'Roo, and I would certainly go to the show...when I saw then live in '98, it was fun. The reunion announcement just didnt make my life any better or any worse, ya know?
"We're no longer called Sonic Death Monkey. We're on the verge of becoming Kathleen Turner Overdrive, but just for tonight, we are Barry Jive and his Uptown Five. "

I don't HATE phish, but I don't care for them. Their super noodley(doubt that is a word) jams kind of bore me. I would have absolutely nothing against them playing at Bonnaroo. I would say the best place for them would be late night on the main stage. That way they can play longer and still have enough room for all the "Phans". Two nights should not happen though. I don't think that they should get any better of a deal than any other headlining band. If they feel they need two nights, they should just do their own festival.
I don't care for Phish either, but it would still be pretty cool if they headlined 'Roo, and would certainly go & enjoy the show! And I think you'd find a lot of people who feel the same way.
But from what I hear, not just here either, Bonnaroo will probably not be on their agenda.

I find Phish to be a complete waste of talent. They are all talented musicians, but I find there songs to be just inordinately lacking in soul. Talk about a bunch of nerdy white guys. To each their own. I think Phish playing roo will be good for the festival and lots of people will enjoy it. I just hope that they are on against somebody unlike Pearl Jam was. I completely detest Pearl Jam and went back to camp and napped through their set. I would rather have the option to see someone while they are playing. When the whole festival is a series of overlapping sets why would you shut everything down to showcase one act. Like you're supposed to like them if you attend the festival. My guess is that Phish will play late night anyway.

IMO, if phish were to play bonnaroo, they would have a headlining spot. and noone else would be playing while they were. id bet alot of money on that MAYBEEE there is a slight chance in my mind, that they would get a late night, but id have to be on the main stage. for sure. so you can def have your nap then .

<---because they are the headliner. its basically how most festivals work, from my understanding..or the ones ive been to anyhew (i keep reading this and it sounds sarcastic and its not sposed to be just FYI)
I love them and spent 10 years of my life following them around the country. Can't do that again but will see many shows and as for bonnaroo and Phish at their fests. They play 3 times a day and as long as they want for 2 days. Plus a secret set late at night everything is Phish. Though it would be nice for some people if they played roo I would suggest that you see them at their own fest.
"Waste of talent" and "nerdy white guys" are two phrases I can honestly say I've never heard used to describe Phish before.
Well those guys can really play. I just wish they would play different songs is all.
I'm having a hard time understanding this comment.
Phish has an enormous catalogue and has demonstrated over the nearly thirty years of playing together that they are capable of performing well in nearly every genre.
Which songs (style?) would you prefer they played?
Watchin' a stretch of road, miles of light explode. Driftin' off a thing I'd never done before. Watchin' a crowd roll in. Out go the lights it begins. A feelin' in my bones I've never felt before...
I fucking love them and Will see them somewhere next year, hopefully starting at hampton. I could see them playing bonnaroo for mainly 1 reason: I believe there wont be a phish fest until NYE 09 at Big Cypress(I can atleast hope) considering its their 10 aniv of it. SO that would mean no summer fest of their own more than likley, leaving a possibility for the roo, hopefully 2 nights. But it wouldnt be the same vibe or special feeling of their own fest, Some Ppl on here already have said how they dont like them. SO i could see them doing it for kinnda getting that feel back of headling a fest so they can be even more prepared for the real deal(Cypress)

It shouldn't be hard to understand. I don't like their music, but I think they are talented musicians. As a group I don't find that they make any style/ genre sound pleasing. I just don't care for them. What the hell is hard to understand about that? I like Oysterhead. Obviously Trey can play with other people and I like it. So maybe it's just the mix of folks in Phish. I had a suite mate in college who was really into Phish. I heard a few songs that I liked living with him, but overall they don't do it for me.

Ok, I'm thinking it's more your writing style that's difficult to understand than the concepts behind it.

I tidied up the poor typing for you. You know damn well what I was trying to say. Your just being intentionally obtuse. Go pick a fight with somebody else dick.

I wasn't picking a fight, I was just asking for more information in order to understand your point of view. I'm very sorry if you feel like I've attacked you--certainly wasn't my intention.
My intent with my second post was to demonstrate that it clearly *was* actually a matter of not understanding your statement and not a matter of understanding your ideas. I get how you could like an individual artist but not what they produce within various outlets.
