I applaud Phish for this. The scene can be extremely hampered by the distribution and use of druqs, especially hard druqs. For them to make this kind of statement during their first shows back shows that they are focused on making the musical experience a pleasant one for all. Bravo.

^^The scene's usually pretty good. Security's not too bad, although they will id people if they look underage and make you dump the booz.... But other than that its pretty straight as far as amphitheatres go.
have to COMPLETELY disagree with you on this one. last year they started cracking down on drinking - all drinking. for 10 year+ all you needed was a red cup. now, they hassle everyone. lets see what happens on 09... but im prepared for it to be a fiasco.
only good news is you cant get arrested for a little corn.

they tore that place a new a-hole last night.
roo excitement = gone up ten fold.
(also..for the record, it was kinda nice to see a phish show without all the lot nonsense. i like it as much as the next guy..but this weekend was really about the music. )

and ive been hearing they arent even bothering to enforce the fine.....
^That's correct. There's no process in place to enforce it. Since it's non-criminal, you don't have to give your name and can't be searched without other cause. It's unenforcable. There wer quotes from several chiefs of police/district attorneys of large communities in Mass. and they said the same thing.
I love all those pic in the signature of your posts, rooconteur!!!! Those lights are beautiful. I do have to say my one complaint of outdoor shows is that I just don't feel like one can get the full effects of the light show. In indoor venues, you can see the lights on the ceiling and on the crowd if your in balcony seating. ....I just personally think it looses a little something outdoors. But other than that, I do love outdoor shows.

apparently the police made a big haul. And it seems that PHISH actually PAID for the police presence. So I would guess anyone that got arrested or fined or had stuff confiscated can thank the band for it, huh?

I have been to a good many Phish shos and festivals and the energy in that place on Friday night was likely as strong as the energy on the frontlines at Normandy.
Blew me away. So great to see the band back in the place they should be. I have a strong feeling that this is going to hurt the growth of many bands.

Thats a pretty poor way of putting it. Its not like Phish wanted to put people in jail. It was a part of the contract they worked out with the city. To say someone should thank the band for being arrested is pretty much retarded. The only thing the band explicitly tried to get cracked down on was illegal merchandise.

How many of those arrest were at the concert and how many were going to or from. I assume other police forces that had nothing to do with the concert were looking for people that they deemed "phishey"

Hmmm - so you have an inside line with the band and you know that for sure? The fact is - the band paid for the police and the police did their job - whether it was to crack down on illegal merchandise or not - they also cracked down on illegal substances - so - Phish paid for people to get busted - plain and simple.
