And I was heavy into the punk scene, so it doesn't really matter that your friends are into punk and that they would laugh. They could tell me the bands they listen to, and I would probably laugh at a couple.
You were born in 1989. You're 19 years old. What "punk scene" were you heavy into, exactly?
Calling Golgol Bordello "punk" is like calling Matisyahu "reggae". It's disengenuous to say the least.
I would just say we will have to agree to disagree on this one. Think Locally F*** Globally is a punk song though if I have ever heard one. I will say for the record Matisyahu is so bad he makes my ears want to die.
i'm thinking itll be david byrne, trey and mike... and a few others doing Talking Heads stuff. phish covered that talking heads album in one of their halloween shows from Live Phish series... so they know the stuff. just speculating

That would be awesome but I think it's too obvious for the Superjam. I'm thinking they will surprise us with something totally unexpected. But I wouldn't be surprised if David Bryne came out and played a few songs with Phish during their set.
well in 2006, the superjam was on saturday. so im thinking if phish will be there the whole weekend: late night phish on friday, superjam saturday, headlining sunday. yeah i know saturday late night is supposedly already stacked but nothing is confirmed yet. for all we know.. mars volta could get an afternoon set. only thing we know for sure is Phish's set times.
edit: but yeah the more i think about it, it is kind of a predictable superjam. just thought it would fit quite nicely.
I don't think Saturday late night is that stacked. I'd say Friday is more crowded by far than Saturday. These are my thoughts:
Friday Late Nights
What Stage: Phish Which Stage: TV on the Radio This Tent: Crystal Castles/Girl Talk/Paul Oakenfold That Tent: Animal Collective or Galactic (probably Animal Coll.) The Other Tent: Femi Kuti and others (African Theme)
Saturday:
What Stage: NIN (start around 3 AM) Which Stage: Ben Harper and Relentless 7 This Tent: the Mars Volta That Tent: Yeasayer/ MGMT The Other Tent: Superjam
I think Saturday Superjam makes much more sense than Friday late night and more so than Sunday afternoon. I highly doubt moe will play Saturday late night. Sunday is looking overall weaker than Sunday has in the past and I think moe is a good bet for What Stage in the afternoon or headlining a tent on Sunday.

i dont know whos available for friday late-night but i hope that TVoTR isnt doing late-night because that pretty much guarantees i miss them. and i guess im missing galactic.. grr
oh this threads about the superjam ...
uh would be cool if claypool and jack white did something. im pretty sure they would make some crazy noises at the very least.
AS LONG AS MOE. GALACTIC AND BEN HARPER DONT CONFLICT MY WEEKEND WILL BE BANGIN.. BUT IT SEEMS LIKE ALOT OF PEOPLE SAY THEY ARE GOING TO ALL PLAY LATE NIGHT SAT. PLEASE PLEASE DONT LET THIS HAPPEN PUT BEN HARPER AS A DAY SET!

^^^So, because I'm 19, it means I can't listen to the Clash, Black Flag, the Dead Kennedys or the like, and then go see Against Me! years ago? Just because I am 19 means I can't listen to jam bands like Phish, or the Greatful Dead, and then attend Disco Biscuits or Umphreys McGee, and that means I'm not into the jam band scene? <--- see this jam band example is legitimate... not a banjo player singing old time country tunes, proclaiming himself as an mc.
Oh, sorry... I didn't know that you had to live in the exact time period when it was in it's prime to be a part of a certain scene. My bad. I didn't know that some genres can live on and the scene isn't as big, but it is still there. Yeah... once the Clash and Dead Kennedys broke up, and Nirvana came around... punk died forever. You're so right.
I too have friends that are older than I am that would qualify to you as the "punk scene era," if you want to play that game... since you think punk was only acceptable to live in from a certain time period.
Regardless, whether you like it or not... Gogol Bordello can be classified as punk. Yes, most of their members come from Eastern Europe and they are mainly classified as playing gypsy music... was the punk scene the same over there? Probably not.
I guess this means Flogging Molly aren't folk punk?
Phill Jupitus lived during the punk scene and worked with Billy Bragg (does he classify as punk to you? or is he just folk?)... said Gogol Bordello was a mix between The Pogues (are they punk?) and The Clash in "Eastern Europe." To me this Phill Jupitus has more credentials than your friends. And I think the pogues and the clash are two huge punk bands... so I'm going to go with him, instead of your friends.
Keep in mind... bands can be in more than one genre... they don't have to be specific to a certain one.
I would like you to answer this question, because you didn't answer my last one... you just brought up my age, which i find funny, because that was all you could say to defend your argument...
Do you see ZERO characteristics in Gogol Bordello's attitude, music, spirit, or lyrics that wouldn't classify them as punk? not entirely punk... just in the general sense of things.

If it IS world-based music, then Byrne will be in on it for sure...his world music compilations are amazing!!!
I'm hoping for something a little more open-minded. Hopefully the rest of the solar system will be represented to some extent.
Are you aware of how many international artists Byrne has supported, and put on his stuff, and even done documentaries on? He would be KILLER with any of the international bands! A great fit!

I think that was a joke about "world" music rather than a slight on David.
Edit
You know a Warren Haynes lead, Skynard Superjam would be awful sweet.

^^Skynyrd jam would prolly just be Warren Haynes with DBTs backing him. and have a cpl people in to sing a song or two like Merle Haggard, Ben Harper, and Lucinda Williams.
