Just finished "The Grand Design" by Hawking and Mlodinow. Getting ready to take down either "The Quantum Universe" by Cox and Forshaw or "A Universe From Nothing" by Krauss. You know a bit of the light stuff

John Irving has written some of the greatest novels of the last 30 years. But whenever I give him a chance to show that he's still got it, he lets me down. His latest, In One Person, hits the usual familiar themes: Vienna (ala Garp and Hotel New Hampshire), Transgenderism (think Roberta Muldoon), wrestling (Garp, 158 lb. marriage), incest (Hotel NH), there are even bears, but the hairy gay kind. But in the end, there are only slight hints of the old brilliance. The part about losing friends to AIDS resonates, but it's a bit late for that.
Currently reading "Divergent" by Veronica Roth. I picked it up based on comparisons to "The Hunger Games" but I've been a bit disappointed thus far. I have about 50 pages left. I'm sure I will read the rest of the series, but it has not grabbed me the same way THG did... it's taken me almost a month to read this book and I read THG in 24 hours. The lead female character is not nearly as strong as Katniss, at least not in this first book.

Up next is the latest by Christoper Moore.
I have that one on my Goodreads to read list. Maybe I won't now.
I read the Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness last week & loved it. Trying to wait patiently for my B&N order of the newest book, Shadow of Night to arrive.
Ha I am supposed to be reading the 4 hour workweek instead I just finished Game of Thrones and now on to the Girl Who Played With Fire then Clash of Kings then The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest then...
Yeah i so far have just been focusing on 4 hour body. Getting really prepared and starting a journal this weekend on all my measurements and really trying to get in to it. Then i'm probably going to focus on 4 hour workweek. As for your other reads ClapHands. I've read both series and i can tell you when you finish the third book (Storm of Swords), you'll kind of forget about Salandar....
The reason I am splitting up Song of Fire and Ice is because I really want to stay behind the show because Holy Cow it is my favorite show and I don't want to spoil it.
I have that one on my Goodreads to read list. Maybe I won't now.
I'd suggest trying it out to see what you think. I don't think it's as good as THG, but you also have to keep in mind that it's YA so it's written for younger people. There's just more of a love story than I would like.

I read that a few months ago! I enjoyed it.
I'm one of those people that has to read something that is being raved about so I can have an informed opinion. So, every now & then I dive into a YA book. I am hit or miss with them (loved THG, wanted to hit something after reading Twilight series.) Just when I think "No way I'm reading another YA book" I read something like The Book Thief that jumps into my all time favorites list.

Finished this. I'd been avoiding it even though Eggers is one of my favorite writers and one of the big reasons I read as much fiction as I do, and really enjoyed it. It's difficult at points, just because everything seems so hopeless and the conditions of the refugees in the book are so terrifying, but there's enough levity in it to keep you from putting it down for something sunnier.
Now,
First dip into sci-fi in a while, looking forward to it.

NEW YORK (AP) — Now we know how Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson really felt about each other.
British e-publisher Clandestine Classics is releasing sexed-up editions of Sherlock Holmes, "Pride and Prejudice" and other classics, with erotic passages woven into the traditional texts. That means Mr. Darcy "buried inside the depths" of Elizabeth Bennet in "Pride and Prejudice" and Dr. Watson declaring his "joy of knowing other men."
Clandestine managing director Claire Siemaszkiewicz (sih-MASS'-kuh-wihtz) says she has always been drawn to "the underlying sexual tension" in older novels. The new editions were started before the "Fifty Shades" phenomenon, but the release date was moved up to July 30 in hopes of attracting fans of E.L. James' erotic trilogy
I once read a book that had a sex scene where the man "plowed the furrow of her field."

Just finished The Art of Fielding and thought it was an amazing read! Great flow, great characters, solid writing for I am guessing a first timer? Reminded me a lot of some of John Irving's stuff. Well worth checking out if you haven't already gotten to it

I agree. It had some weak spots, but very promising debut. Actually reminded me of early Michael Chabon. I look forward to whatever he does next.

I also liked What is the What. It led me to an amazing book of short stories by an African Jesuit, Uwem Akpan, called Say You're One of Them. My favorite book of 2008.

On Flanzo's recommendation I read RA Dickey's auto over the weekend. Generally a great read. I would have liked if he spent a little more time delving into his relationship with his wife, but I dont think that was quite the point of the story being told.
picked this up awhile ago but got distracted and never finished it. Just picked it up again last week and finished it yesterday. While the guy does spend most of the book describing his suffering out on the PCT, I found it a thoroughly entertaining read and very informative, and it has me licking at my chops to get out there in 2015 (when I plan to try it for myself).
now on to this:
Pretty interesting so far. Only about a chapter in, but something I'm more than interested in is defector stories. I have a friend that works at the embassy who meets them all the time and says their stories are incomparable.
I should stopped in here yesterday. Sigh. Two of my friends, who have recently given up drinking, and I have started a mini book club. We chose our first book (and 2nd and 3rd) yesterday. Before we choose the next three, I am coming in here for suggestions. We all brought five books as options and all 5 of mine lost.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
