I could see Invisible Monsters as a debate, but I've never heard anyone recommend anything of Adams aside from hitchhiker's.
No Shame Confession: I actually haven't read Hitchhiker's. I used to work with a guy who was a big fan, and I hated that guy, so the idea of reading it is forever poisoned by him.

Now that is a tragedy. I'll pay you $20 if you read the first one. I'll double it if you don't like it enough to move on to the Restaurant at the End of the Universe.
Just started this. It highlights the superficiality and shallowness of the standardized, corporatized culture that many of us exist in. It reminded me a bit of "American Psycho" in the main character's obsession with materialism; but, you know, without all the killing and stuff. The plot itself is actually quite funny.
If that's all you are getting, you have to dig a lot deeper.
As someone who is almost a 2 million miler and at the top tier of the airline program, 2 hotel programs and a car rental program, there is a very different message to me in that story. I realize that that life may seem shallow and cookie cutter to you, but there is a lot more to his message than that.

I'm only on Chapter 4 right now, so perhaps the story hasn't shelled itself out yet. I may PM you once I'm done to get your take on it. Thanks!

I'll probably give it a shot one of these days. Like many books, it always seems to get pushed to the side.
Dave, a Kindle Helps. Or just the App. I have a Kindle, the app on my phone and computer. If I like the book, I buy a hardcover copy, but this keeps my shelves clear of a lot of crap, and lets me read much faster.

It's not the space. I am just easily distracted, so my reading goes up and down. I just finished a 500 page book. It read the first 150 in a couple days. The second 150 is three and a half weeks. The last 200 in 4 days. I really enjoyed the book. My focus just goes other places.

I dated a guy (briefly) that was a big fan so I assumed everyone who liked it was a big asshat too.
Amazon gift card and the kindle, may have to reconsider

They have a 5 book hitchhikers bundle for like 10 bucks. I recommend it. I blew through all of them.
JHo & I are both fans. I would LOVE to see his books adapted for the big screen, but honestly, I have no idea who they'd cast as Minty Fresh. Part of me thinks RuPaul would be perfect. Ellen Page is Abby Normal, no question about it.
(If you haven't read his others, I can bring them to you @ Moog!) So glad you're in the F*ckstockings fan club now!
Hols, I may take you up on that offer! I've requested several more from the library. I'll have to let you know what they don't carry.
I just got it the other night and I really haven't had a chance to start it yet. I was going to start it yesterday, but the wife bought Cabin in the Woods on blu ray, so I couldn't just come home from work and not watch all of the special features and the movie, now could I? I have a busy weekend ahead of me but I will let ya know once I get a chance to knock a dent into it.
I got this from the library about six weeks ago, and I read 50 pages during my 3 week checkout So, obviously, I couldn't get in to it. I just wasn't feeling it, not sure why, because I love his other stuff! May give it a whirl again in a few months... my book-reading tastes vary based on the mood I'm in.
I got "Swamplandia" again from the library yesterday. I had it a few months ago but, once again, couldn't get in to it so I returned it. I enjoyed Karen Russell's book of short stories, one of which this novel is based on, but I also think it may have biased me. The characters in the novel are changed from the short story characters (just in small ways) and that kind of bummed me out. We'll see how it goes this time around!

I finally got into the Walking Dead collections series, I'm into book 8 now. As someone who isn't a fan of graphic novels the zombie angle, and my love of the show, brought me in but the story line and the levels of both horror and surprise in characters' actions have kept me going strong. Great series.
Also, recently read Jo Nesbo's The Snowman. To me this just seemed like an average "page turner" but given how everyone loved the Dragon Tattoo series, and seems to be looking for the next Larsson, I'm not surprised that Hollywood has picked this up already. Not bad but certainly not something I would recommend

I just received a Kindle from my Aunt and I'm utilizing the free downloads from the library. I have Hitchhiker's guide on hold for Dave.
Uh oh. Looks like I'm that much closer to being out $20.

Haha I didn't see this at all but I will say I will enjoy buying myself something with your 20 dollars. I will make Dave read it if I have to stand over him with a whip
I'm also a big Moore fan. I think anyone who enjoys Vonnegut, Palahniuk, or Douglas Adams should give him a try.
Lamb is my favorite, by far. Also liked Stupidest Angel. I actually liked Fool, but I'm a sucker for twists on Shakespeare (see also Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead).
As for Abby Normal, I actually see Aubrey Plaza in the role.
Finished Sacre Bleu a few months ago. While I enjoyed the take and the weaving of real historical information and real paintings and styles, it got, even for Moore, a little too silly toward the end. For me, needed more Toulouse, less Colorman.
I love Palahniuk so I looked up Moore to find the only one in was Stupidest Angel so I have that downloaded. I have Lamb on hold. I'm expecting this to be very interesting and odd by your list of "If you liked...."
