again i disagree. jd got scolded last year because too many bands were guessed and the clues were too easy. he's not gonna let himself get in trouble again.
Im not so sure about this, if he did indeed get in trouble I doubt he would be doing any clues period.
Didn't get scolded really - but several folks pointed out that JANIS JOPLIN PRESERVES clue was WAAYYYY to easy. Had no idea so many folks would work together to solve those 08 clues so fast. And yes, several clues were way too easy.
But this year I see we are not having that problem of fast clue solving.

ac/superfly was NOT happy with him. he said this clues would be harder this year because of that.
I am well aware of the changes made because of last year. But I don't seen how peanut butter wolf is an easy conclusion - the only reason we figured it out is because someone randomly happened to know about him. If he didnt happen to mention the name how long would it have taken us to even discover him?

Did he say that at the brunch last year? In that guess im guessing that the clues will all be lower tier bands this year if Superfly wasnt happy about the clues last year.
Third Eye Blind is about as likely to play as Matchbox 20...plus that interpretation of the clue was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too creative to be anywhere near realistic. Let's push it forward.
I think there's a good chance the clue is referring to two different acts. I believe there were clues with multiple bands as the answer last year as well.
I think it has been said that the clues lead to one answer. Also I think the Snoop Dogg guesses sort of make sense but I feel like its kind of a stretch.
Yeah...just read his twitter, and it says TISKNOTTOOBANZ...which I guess is DJ JD speak for "It's not two bands."

We're running circles around each other you guys, it's already been said that is clue is about one band.......well actually it didn't really say that, it just said that is wasn't about TWO bands......I think it's just one band, but I guess if we're going to dissect everything he says
Also, why are we all fighting about "MY ANSWER'S BETTER!" "No MY ANSWER'S BETTER!"
We should be working together.
And imo, all you kids who didn't do the clues last year should really listen to the people who did it last year...we do know what we're talking about ;D
Word!
Man, I know that it is hard to tell tone in posts... but it feels like there is some serious negativity going on in here. How about we all respect each other a little more and don't just shoot down people's guesses. We're all in the same boat here, and none of us know the correct answers until the 3rd anyway.... so everyone's guess is valid until then.

I would guess that he had to run his clues past the PTB this year to make sure that they weren't "too easy" in their eyes after last year.

wait...i hear a clue.....DAVID MAKALASTER.....CLAYPOOL AT ROO 09
also...were not gonna really know the answers to the clues...really its just a way to get a good idea of who will be there....unless there is another janis joplins preserves

We aren't having that problem because people aren't working together. We're not listening to one another. No one person can possess all of the knowledge but together we can figure it out. I definitely agree about negativity, this is just meant to be fun, let's keep it that way

Some of that stuff is lyrics to Rhymin' Wordz Freestyle by Eminem...the peanut butter, big gulp,
Off peanut butter, you see my d#$% and you start to stutter. Start to utter, words that you ... With pulp fiction, yo I'll eat you like a big gulp addiction

glad you didnt get in too much trouble. thanks for clarifying! and it seems like we have more solving to do...
Ah sorry to everyone if Ive seemed negative or whatever in this thread, not my intention just putting my opinion out there. Agree we have to work together but afraid that im not going to be any help on this particular clue, I have no clue.
And imo, all you kids who didn't do the clues last year should really listen to the people who did it last year...we do know what we're talking about ;D
i apologize if i was the one coming off as negative. i was just trying to justify why i thought some of the previous bands mentioned were not the answer to the clue!

man, I thought you guys had it with snoop.
I'd like to suggest trying to get the juice ideas out of our heads. it says the ocean spray from the western bay, and ocean spray the company has no affiliations with the west coast. the products aren't from there and it's not based there.
I think the peanut idea was good, but perhaps roast could have another meaning. Roast can also refer to ridicule (i.e. the friar's club) or even the event of attending a roast. Someone more familiar with Peter Pan - did either of these events go down with the character before his duel?
I'm not entirely sure that ocean spray is referring to a band itself (i.e. that he is calling a band an ocean spray).Okay, thinking hat back on.
and also, props to bonnaroodetective. this would be a lot more coherent and easier to follow if we could eliminate redundancies and keep off-topic chat to a minimum. Someone should make an official companion thread for everything that doesn't involve clues and guesses.

okay, so maybe we should compile a list of all the interpretations of each section of the clue, Like everything that could come from peter pan/pulp/roasted......then a list for everything that could be related to ocean spray/westward bay/gulp........cause if we can lay it all out, something might jump out to someone
Lead guitarist Jerry Garcia was often seen both by the public and the media as the leader or primary spokesperson for the Grateful Dead, but was reluctant to be perceived that way, especially since he and the other group members saw themselves as equal participants and contributors to their collective musical and creative output.[8][9] Garcia, a native of San Francisco, grew up in the Excelsior District. One of his main influences was bluegrass music, and Garcia also performed—on banjo, one of his other great instrumental loves, along with the pedal steel guitar—in the bluegrass band Old and in the Way with mandolinist David Grisman.
Classically trained trumpeter Phil Lesh played bass guitar. Bob Weir, the youngest original member of the group, played rhythm guitar. Ron "Pigpen" McKernan played keyboards and harmonica and was also a group vocalist until shortly before his death in 1973 at the age of 27. All of the previously mentioned Grateful Dead members shared in vocal performance of songs. Bill Kreutzmann played drums, and in September 1967 was joined by a second drummer, New York native Mickey Hart, who also played a wide variety of other percussion instruments. Hart quit the Grateful Dead in February 1971, leaving Kreutzmann once again as the sole percussionist. Mickey Hart rejoined the Dead for good in October 1974. Tom "TC" Constanten was added as a second keyboardist from 1968 to 1970, while Pigpen also played various percussion instruments and sang.
Okay...so here are my thoughts...
1. PB&J = Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, and Jerry Garcia.
2. Wolf = Ron "Pigpen" McKernan
3. Beat to a pulp = They have had many illness/deaths in the history of the band
4. Westward Bay = San Fransisco...they are the favorite band of all time from there.
Respectfully, DJJD saying "but this year we are not having that problem" could just mean that we don't have any clear-cut consensus answers. Not that we're all wrong but that we are not all right.
For what it's worth, I remain most swayed by the Peter, Bjorn and John argument. Final answer.
