I just listened to this one and I think it says " If you gave up on them, it's time to reboot them, grooves as sweet as a lost Fig Newton. "
This seems to be the best version of the clue that we've got.
We've received hints that we shouldn't focus on "reboot" and that it's a band that is not named for a fruit. Also "these fine young cannibals have been around for a while. Music is par for the course."

He didn't exactly say to leave off the fig, but rather leave off the fruit. This was when we were talking about fruit and cake so he could have meant just the cake is important...
^^^Does the hand have any thoughts on my guess, Femi Kuti & Positive Force?
Yes, he does have thoughts on that. Made hound recall running into Femi's background singers at previous b'roo in catering. They were wearing Graceland shirts fresh from a visit to Elvis-land. Hound was too shy to speak to them.

I'm looking at the three 'p's. 'Fill in the blank' is all in caps, so I think the part that was meant to standout was the three letters he chose not to capitalize.
I think it is a band with the p's in the name, like the Polyphonic Spree.

I agree that the 3 ps are more likely to be significant somehow. "Lazy as a" doesn't get us anywhere anyway, and the fact that it was just the ps that were lowercase seems meaningful. I can't think of anything that acronyms to PPP (other than the Potter Puppet Pals, and I don't think Neil Cicierega is going to be at Roo). Maybe it's as simple as something that starts with P.
I actually tend to think he might have thrown us a bone on this one. If only I could understand how Zappa Plays Zappa makes sense with the whole lost fig newton bit.

Throwing us a bone would be giving us another clue with "Janis Joplin preserves will be served" easiness. If ZPZ was the answer and he gave us "_____ plays Zappa" that would be throwing us a fully-cooked ribeye and a bottle of A1. There is NO WAY that's it.

ZPZ thing was a joke- in line with the joke it followed.
