Hi all. I figure some of you will be hitting up Phish in Knoxville the day before Bonnaroo. I go to UT, and I wanted to say a few things about the arena. First and foremost, pending a change of opinion in a long-standing debate on campus, TBA is dry, and no alcohol will be sold at the show, and no alcohol officially will be allowed on campus before the show. UT police officers will literally have nothing better to do than enforce these policies. Also, most available parking is located on campus which means UTPD may squash mini-lot scenes in the garage. There are several bars within a 10 minute walk so I encourage you guys to check out those options for a pre-game. If you need any info on bars, hotels, parking, or anything else, don't hesitate to ask.
I'd prefer to not have to scrape my mind off the pavement before rolling into Manchester.
That's how I feel. There will be party-a-plenty the next day. Also, for some concerts there in the past, UTPD HAS looked the other way (Lord knows they do for football games), but they may be dicks since it's Phish kids.

Yea, knox would be a first phish show for me, if we happen to make it....so i think i would just ease myself gingerly into some phish...then see what happens on the farm/noblesville

I camped out the other night and was very surprised how cool the cops were. Granted, there was only 15 of us there and every officer is different but when we were approached by UT police we were asked if we needed anything. But when they are in groups, I'm sure they will bust up some loud lot groups. At the same time, UT is having budget problems like everyone else and might not be able to afford any kind of heavy presence. Here's hoping for the latter!
On another note I'm actually glad that there is no alcohol at Thompson Boling. I like to drink but have had too many bad encounters at shows with drunk folks or sloppy/messy people. Hopefully everyone has a blast no matter what they are on.

There was some concert there within the last year that they REALLY looked the other way on...seemed like it was a country show, but i forget who....
Anyway, chances are I will be working that night for some extra cash for Roo...come see me at the Half Barrel, about a ten minute walk from TBA on Cumberland Ave. Over thirty drafts, including some Rooer favorites (4 New Belgiums including Fat Tire; Magic Hat #9; 3 Sweetwaters), and the best bourbon selection in TN.
what's everyone's plan after knoxville? right to roo? gettin a room for a few hours? nap in walmart parking lot? I'm still trying to figure out the best course of action.

Not sure yet. Have 2 knoxville tix but 4 people going to 'Roo. The plan, however is to drive from Boston, get to Knoxville check in to a hotel, see Phish, back to hotel, sleep, Bonnaroo.

Yeah I'll probably run into the same problem with more people in a caravan for roo than knoxville. I hope they don't mind sittin in dunkin donuts for three hours
As someone who always hits it too hard on that Wednesday night and ends up regretting it, I'd strongly advise against the Phish > Roo straight shot. Starting things off on no sleep and the effects of whatever you're partying with, just kickstarts the inevitable decline a little too early. I'm pretty sure we'll be getting a room in Knox ourselves.

Good luck finding a Dunkin Donuts down there. More likely a Waffle House. But if you do find one, your friends and my friends can keep eachother company.

Knox has Krispy Kreme near the West Hills exit on I-40. its open 24 hours a day and most nights you can get the freshest made donuts in the drive-thru. Also if anyone needs a place to sleep for a few hours after the phish/knox show, me and my girl might be able to host one or two folks. WE are leaving at 4:30 or 5 in the A.m. for a straight shot to the farm, but house sitter will be here and you can probably stay a little longer if needed. Our house is a heady friendly atosphere as are we, and am only 15 mins from Thompson Boling Arena. PM me if anyone wants to save money on a hotel. edit(by girlfriend): looking for people who need some rest after show- not turning house into afterparty. (she's an after-party-pooper)
I live in Bristol, TN so I will be going to Asheville then back to Bristol to shower 1 last time for the week Then to Knoxville, luckily wegot a cheap ass hotel beside of venue as soon as we got word of show there! Get up about 5:00am and headstaright to Bonnaroo VIP and countdown to Phish once again.
P.S. Goin to Hampton all 3 nights solo, 24 days until the MOTHERSHIP! myspace.com/joshkistner jmk3270@hotmail.com Phriedns welcome to holla! Peace.
So I haven't been to roo since 06 and I was wondering if anyone's gotten there earlier in recent years (like wednesday or early thursday before the official opening) do they let you come in right off of 24 or do they redirect you to that back entrance. I wouldn't mind going right after knox but I wanna know my chances of getting a half decent spot.

I went at 3:00 A.M. Wed. morning in 2006. We were corraled into BFE near the main medical tent. Which is what i have heard happening to a bunch of folks showing up early. I think an hour or so before the gate opens is the best but nothing is for sure. There will be people camping in Walmart and other places if you still show up but i would advise that waiting in line is better than BFE.
Traffic that lines up prior to the official opening of the gates gets put in BFE. They come in the back way on Bushy Branch and get stuck in pods 11 and 12.
Whats up SirPWB?
Im still looking forward to that next Echo Project!

roofan, tell me about it. A bunch of people complained about echo project just being thrown together but i enjoyed its simplicity.
on another note - i've still got two extra 2nd row center knoxville tickets I'm tryig to trade for other phish or GD shows. I've found a bunch of trade offers on craigslist but most are scalpers and brokers trying to get hold of these, Da Bastidz!

how far is the drive miles/time from knoxville to manchester? also does anybody know how far the drive from atlanta to knoxville is? I might score a ticket to the asheville show and make it a 4 night run.
I have a question. After seeing the security cams at Hampton, I got to thinking about the lot scene at Knoxville, and the fact that I have 2 tickets for 5 people.
The lot should be full of people on their way to Roo, ready to party.
Does anybody think they'll be a big enough lot scene for the people without tix to just party outside till the show's over??

i'm gonna say yes... i think there's gonna be plenty of tickets available. They are going for close to face on ebay. tell them to take a look there...

Yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about being able to get tickets. The "behind the stage" tix should be easy to obtain. However, if you have a party that for some reason can't get in, they can probably hang out in the lot. Or, they could go to the Cumberland Avenue Strip (it's not AS cool as it sounds), which is about a 10 minute walk away and drink at one of the numerous watering holes there.
